networkn: I got up with my 6 year old son to watch the final this morning, the first time I can recall ever getting up to watch an overnight game. Was spectacular. It's been a rollercoaster few days personally, as my daughter was rushed to starship with an unknown illness (not life threatening at this stage), so I hadn't had a lot of sleep. It was supposed to be a family event, my wife ended up watching at starship, me at home. Finally getting a little downtime to fully appreciate what has been accomplished.

It really is a superb day for Rugby, for New Zealand, and a really nice day to be a All Blacks fan.

I wish you all the best with your daughter.

As someone with a 2 year old boy I know family trumps all.

I also hope you can move beyond your blind faith in all things Canterbury.

There are many other regions of NZ doing great things for NZ rugby.

Hopefully, as a continued Beauden Barrett detractor, you managed to get off your chair and cheer as the final plays of the game played out.

I take great comfort in the fact that the current crop of All Blacks did the business.

I think the most exciting period of AB rugby is about to come with the established moving on and the new, almost equivalent, moving in.

Go the AB's.....

PS - I was very disappointed to see the AB's allow the 'Waltzing Matilda's" back into the game. If not for that my 30 point predicition was on the mark.....

What strange things to say. I am not a BB detractor, I really like the guy, I just don't think he is very good at kicking right now! (He was better last year). I see him as an unbelievable super sub, perhaps next year, we will see more of him @ 10 and that can see how is he at starting (I don't consider his few prior episodes as being good examples for him). Make no mistake, I was SCREAMING as he scored that try (and in fact the other good things he did when he came off the bench). I think you need to re-read my comments toward him (and in fact many MANY other non Canterbury players).

Re letting Australia back in, I think that was really because they had no sweeper (Fullback was in the bin), and that was EXCELLENT of Australia to spot that, and execute well enough to get that try.

The rolling maul, *shrug*.

I'd say we let them have momentum for just a few minutes before pushing back at them hard, and putting them on the back foot. Our attacking defence was OUTSTANDING. Probably the best I'd seen for a LONG time.

I saw the countdown for the yellow <30 secs and then we proceeded to either miss touch or kick it down the middle before they eventually got over the line. Was a little frustrating.

I was pretty surprised that Kurindrani skinned Savea. Not to mention that they let that kick bounce rather than grabbing it.

I actually agree (Shock Horror) with Rattue when he said without Ben Smith in the bin it would have been a 30 point margin.

When will the Australian press stop with the nonsense before every big game, it makes Australians in general look foolish and silly (Especially when we spank them in a final).

It's one area I think other teams have over the AB's right now. We don't seem to make use of the yellow cards handed out to other teams. If another team loses a forward, we should concentrate on attacking up front, forcing defenders to narrow, then go wide and score. Similarly if they lose a full back, that same play would generally work pretty well. I think it's not unreasonable to drill the team on if you lose a player in position x here is the plays we want to concentrate on.

Problem is you end up risking players having too much to think about, as I think was DC's problem for the past 6 months before the second Australian game

I think upon thinking on it, I'd probably have to award Ma'a Nonu the player of the AB's at the RWC. there were so many deserving people, DC, and RM, and obviously Whitelock

I don't agree with you on this. I think we're one of the better teams at taking advantage of yellow cards. I also think we're the best team at defending when we have a yellow. Last night was the exception but it's not often teams score that many points when we're down a man.

I remember I did a bunch of research on espnscrum statsguru to find the stats. I'll see if I can track it down.

Absolutely agree our defence is magnificent when we are down a guy, our systems are far far better on the whole (Though Australia showed some crazy defence of their own this WC, whilst down a guy)

I'll be keen to see the stats.

Here we go, I mentioned it on a reddit thread discussing the same thing 11 months ago (so doesn't include any for the last year):

Stats for the last 5 years:

22 games in which the all blacks got yellow cards
27 yellow cards given to All Blacks
Won 20 Drawn 2 Lost 0
Points for (while down to 14): 70
Against (while down to 14): 53
Diff: +17

I might update that and also include the opposite when we're up against 14.

AB's forwards seem impervious to foot injuries! :)

You can say what you like about KR, but that guy, he gives EVERYTHING to the AB's. He (is) will be (if he stays), an excellent Captain.

Thing with the Captaincy, you kind of need to give it to a guy who starts, every week, for years. There are actually very few who meet that criteria for form/injury.
