It's an international body, they don't even know what Super Rugby is :)

Only international tests would be considered I'd expect.

The sarcastic "amazing" coaching reference and the "fair amount" reference is why I found your comments pretty condescending. At that level 90% of the coaches role is selecting the right players, helping them build a culture and getting them prepared. The turn around in attitude is Cheikas greatest achievement and the reason for their improvement in their performance.

Incidentally I spent the last week in Sydney and while I took plenty of good natured grief from Australians their praise for our team was without reservation. I find New Zealanders inability to praise Australians pretty sad (I'm not accusing you of this, it's just an observation of something I find incredibly sad and immature in our country).

Well to be fair, my sacasm I felt was pretty justified. I would consider coach of the year, to be amazing. I don't think what he has done fits the bill. I go could into detail as to what I felt was wrong with Australian Rugby and how simple it should have been to fix it (Problems were largely at the very top of the organization and their lack of support of the coaches over the players who they seemed to hold in God like esteem), but it wouldn't really fit this conversation I don't think.

I think without him, ARU was pretty much dead in the water (They were literally 100K Short of bankrupt is what I had heard). It gave him the bargaining power to get what he wanted which is essentially the same as what the other coaches had wanted, but been refused (Complete control over team selections regardless of player standing).

I know you have said you aren't claiming I can't be complimentry toward Australia, and to assure you, I am actually happy to compliment most teams if they perform well, however Australia were made to look a lot better than they actually were from what I could see. They had some outstanding players, they showed unbelievable resolve to hold Scotland out with 13 men (Even though I don't think they would have held an even moderately better team out).

I do think he is probably the best coach they have had in a while, but Australia doesn't worry me too much after the last 2 matches. We had an off night in Australia the first time and they were good enough to capitalise.

Hey, why not Eddie Jones for Coach of the Year?  Cheika took a reasonable rabble and got them focused, but Eddie took a bunch of unknowns and knocked off South Africa at a World Cup.  THAT'S an achievement.  Pearl Harbour maybe, but when in the ring you must protect yourself at all times, and that was a pretty impressive ambush.

The next few years will be very interesting, as Cheika isn't known for sticking around, so it will be interesting to see if he sticks this time.

Just watching the replay of the final for the umteenth time, and what strikes me is that we play the game with our whole squad, whereas others bring on second stringers when the others wear out.  Our winning tactic is to bring on speed and impact (BB & SBW among others) to ramp things up after the big hitters have done the work in breaking down the opposition.  Maybe no prop reserves might be a tactic, just bring on more speed and go to uncontested scrums...?

Finally, to add to an earlier post about Steve Hanson - I was having a beer with someone within the AB camp just a couple of days before the naming of the AB team for the RWC.  I commented that there would be a few people waiting for a call from Steve on Sunday morning, and they said "maybe not - Steve is calling those that didn't make it, others are calling those that did."  That says a lot about ownership.

The WR has it covered. 3 mandatory on the bench are one who can scrum left, one middle, one right.

Good point, but they can get "hurt" quickly, thus rendering the opposition's similar spares also useless.  Mind you, if this was a winning tactic we'd be doing it ;-)

I think he is clutching at straws a bit.  You can cover one eye and postmortem a match either way

Meanwhile ... the WWE trophy is on board a plane heading back to NZ.

I apologise for the lack of sophistication in the capture but I don't know of any easy way to capture the video streams from the ITV player which I presume uses Flash. But it has specific patches to stop you from skipping ads so a normal capture program doesn't work easily.

I had never noticed the leg action from Whitelock mentioned before but clearly this ex rugby player felt it was worthy of comment!  And on a similar note, what about the high tackles against the AB's that were not penalised at all?

But his main point is incontrovertible - the right team won and his other comment about on another day who know what the result would have been?  If you pursue that line then on another day Ben Smith might not have done that high tackle and so the Australians would not have had the opportunity to score 2 tries against 14 men.

Did we win a wrestling trophy as well?

There is skirting the law and then there is this. I couldn't see current management or players of the AB's getting behind this. I would be severely disappointed if they did.

Very sad news indeed.
I hope Richie has the decency to delay whatever he was going to announce tomorrow.

Highlights on Youtube are the best I can imagine. Rugby Channel on Sky may have it too.
