It's amazing how easy it will be to challenge for the 7s Gold Medal in Rio.

Get a group of really fit guys. Get a group of 100m sprinters.

Show them a few youtube clips. And suddenly Sir Gordon's stars look like schoolboys.

They definitely don't look at dominant this year as last, but I will be surprised if they don't medal at RIO.

Wicked! Scott Robertson will apply for the Crusaders Coaching Position. With Rob Penney in the mix as well, either of those two could get the job and the Crusaders franchise would be in good hands I think!

Would be amazing to both see them in *a* role at the Crusaders, but I could imagine if Penney didn't get the Crusaders job, he would be in like Flynn for the Highlanders.

Edit: I see Colin Cooper of Hawkes Bay is potentially interested as well.

My God we have a mountain of talent both in players and coaches in New Zealand. It makes it SO awesome to be a Rugby Fan in the Greatest Rugby Nation IN THE WORLD!

Where did I hear or read (been a long day) that in the world, NZ is involved in every team in one form or another? Ball boy, coach, assistant coach, etc, etc.

Chiefs - Canes

1. Justin Marshall - move over, loud mouth! There was an angle that clearly showed grounding of the ball

2. Barrett can't kick to save himself. Otherwise Canes would win, like Cane said they should have.

3. Why can't an injured substitute prop be substituted with a back?

1. Disagree entirely on both points.

2. Agreed they need to fix it, and in the meantime, replace him as kicker with pretty much anyone else.

3. Playing in the front row of the scrum requires IMMENSE strength, simply not feasible (or safe ) to scrummage with a back. If you are talking during general play, it would give them an advantage. I suspect it will be reviewed at the end of the season regardless.

I have to say it's nice to see the Chiefs playing more positive Rugby, well until Michael Leach decided a swinging arm was the right thing to do. Will be surprised if he isn't cited for it.

The Canes lost because they made too many basic handling errors, if you add to that the points lost by kicking, it would have been a much different looking final score.

Damien McKenzie looks pretty slick right now, have to give him credit. For the AB's? I think he is probably 8KG too lightweight. He would get CRUSHED in a test match I think. I don't think we can really put him and NMS in the same side without being a sacrifice. I'd be ok seeing him at Full-back in general with BS moving to wing.

I can't count how many times Justin Marshall said "I don't care" in this match ... not sure what's wrong ...

If I had to hazard a guess, he is feeling frustrated by referring calls, esp TMO.

Whatever the outcome, that game was enjoyable to watch: lots of attacking play against good defense; a close scoring game for the entire game; long periods of play without stoppages; improvements in the Hurricanes scrummaging, finally; etc.

Was an extremely frustrating game to watch as a Canes fan.  They made so many unforced errors in the second half.  The dropsy in the last 10 seconds of the game summed it up perfectly!

Justin Marshall is a nauseating commentator.  The rules are pretty clear downward pressure, no such thing as "control".  Worst than him though is Scotty Steveneson, his no relevant one liners are just bizarre, and not what I want  to listen too at this level.

I thought the first Chiefs try was questionable, and was surprised they didnt want to have a look at that pass.  Ultimately though you miss that many kicks, and drop that many balls you lose.

DM "is in some sort of form" [Marshall used that nonsensical statement 3 times tonight].  All Blacks are again in a rebuilding phase, but with so much talent putting their hands up.  Will make for a great season.

We had this discussion on page 31. No control No downward pressure needed.

Just grounding. Which was what happened.

Yep you  are correct, although it would be interesting to know how the laws of physics in terms of gravity and or placing downwards, while the ball is held (and it must be held for this rule to be in play) do not need to occur.  IE.  How can you ever hold onto the ball and place it down without providing some amount of downward pressure?  Its an oxymoron.

Now the next question should be did the Highlanders grip on that ball constitute holding, which is a requirement of 22.1a?

I didn't realise Tamanivalu was from the Highlands! His Scottish heritage certainly doesn't show through. 😃

As for the forward pass in the Chiefs try, examine the final pass on the last successful Hurricanes try. Both came backwards out of the hand but drifted forward across the ground, not a forward pass the way the laws are interpreted at the moment.

The way the Chiefs scrum was being dominated by the Hurricanes I would not have liked to have played out of position. Ask yourself what the repercussions of someone sustaining a serious neck injury would have been?

The match didn't live up to my expectations. It seemed to me to be between two teams that had figured each other out.

Barratt showed some magical running and passing. Lucky for the Chiefs he left his kicking boots in the changing room.
