Technofreak:

Thought there might have been more discussion on the Chief's questionable substitution that allowed them to play the "no suitable replacement card" therefore Golden Oldies scrums.

Seems to me they bent the rules of fair play to take away the scrum advantage the Hurricanes had on the night.  I can see why Chis Boyd was a bit miffed.

Agree. It's a bit sad but Smart coaches will always push the boundaries and make mockery of the regulations to gain any advantage for their teams.

I don't bother discuss a number of issues because the Hurricanes didn't lose the game for anything the Chief's did.

It's disgraceful. I was just about to post about it. Yet another reason I don't want Rennie anywhere near the all blacks coaching box. I've spoken before about the way he coaches.

I wonder how the Chiefs supporters here feel about it.

Chiefs supporter chiming in: I think its good a coach will do all he can to get his team the win. More coaches should push the limits, exploiting every facet of the game they can. Don't blame him, blame the rules / authorities that allowed it to happen.

Sorry, can't agree.

Those rules were put there for the safety of the players, not to be exploited in this fashion. Very poor example to set to other coaches and players.

While Rugby at this level might not be a sport in the truest sense there's still a place for Sportsmanship.  This is an example of very poor Sportsmanship in my opinion.

The way the game went, the Canes only have themselves to blame for losing. They had numerous chances only to spurn them one after another. That would miff Boyd more surely.

Although the Herald has a clip on the Chiefs' cheating scrum, haven't watched it yet.

The Canes DID deserve to lose. I don't think any Canes supporter would disagree, however one of my favourite things about nz sport is how into fair play we are and we are good sports as well as good AT sport. I agree with technofreak it sets a bad example.

BTW my comments are not Anti Chiefs. I'd say the same if Todd Blackadder or Steve Hansen did the same. On the other hand am I surprised it was Rennie? Not even a little bit. We have a Chiefs supporter in our extended household and I just mentioned it to him and he smirked and said "are you surprised?" Said it all I thought.

I'm not sure any coach would consciously choose to finish out a game with 14 men when they only have a one point lead.

That the Hurricanes couldn't secure a win with an extra man is quite poor.

This.

Especially since the Canes have been running the ball extremely well

The Huuricanes were not playing with an extra man. The Chiefs had 15 players on the field.

To avoid having to face the overwhelming Hurricanes scrum one of the Chiefs forwards was told to fake an injury. The replacement player was deemed unsuitable by the Chiefs management to play in the scrum. As a result all the ensuing scums were "Golden Oldie" scrums.

Nowhere did I say this was the cause of the Hurricanes loss. They wasted plenty of opportunities to win. They lost the game the Chiefs didn't win it.

The Chiefs got lucky, and resorted to poor sportsmanship to ensure they won.

Watched the nz herald video, to me that is just unacceptable in NZ, he completely faked an injury so they could not lose the scrums.not just the coach but all involved in that should be ashamed
