Well played Highlanders. Have to admire the energy they were showing at the 70m mark managing to move the ball around and make their tackles.

I do feel a little aggrieved TWICE that the Highlanders got away with swatting down the ball, especially the one by Sopoanga. He knew it was a professional foul you could tell by the look on his face.

The kick by Sopoanga was amazing to put Nahaolo in the corner, sensational precision.

I think Dagg wants his Black 15 Jersey back. He is playing with a lot of energy and pace and his kicking is fantastic.

I think Tafua could be a strong candidate for a Black 6 Jersey.

I would be MOST interested to see what would happen if Crotty was in 13 and Fekitoa played 12 in a Nonu style game. I think that would make for a very interesting partnership.

As a highlanders Fan very happy. The game was exciting though out.

The yellow card was a margin call but generally thought the ref had a great game.

Crusaders could easily have won - they were unlucky with the first two disallowed tries - both very close shaves.

I can see why the Crusaders forwards are the best at the moment - very impressive play at times.

We Highlanders may curse the lost games to the Sharks and the Reds (boy we were bad against the Reds) - it could cost us a home game in the finals.

Disappointing that the 5 Hurricanes (incl 3 AB's) let themselves and their team down by failing to meet curfew. Julian is turning into a bit of a problem child I think, if you take into account 2 big weight gains and fitness issues, along with average form. May not be as big of a problem with "Wing" congestion as was originally thought. Janes heart just doesn't seem in it the way it was a couple of years ago, I suspect he allowed his non-selection for the RWC, to "defeat" him.

As a Hurricanes supporter, I'm pleased to see some of the other players getting a start. This problem becomes an opportunity for the replacements to shine. I hope that they do.

I hope that the team will beat the Reds. Their performances can vary so markedly that I don't have much confidence that they will win even against the weakest teams.

It was fairly amazing to me how many penalties the Hurricanes gave away last night and didn't garner a yellow card. The card at the end was token, like he had almost forgotten about it.

On the other hand, the Hurricanes are ever present to snatch up a loose ball or pounce on any slight mistake.

I felt the Reds actually out-played the Hurricanes in most areas of the field. Without intercepts and lucky bounces, it might have been a lot closer.

The Reds were lucky that Hurricanes dropped the ball all night long. I thought the Hurricanes kept the Reds in the game by turning over the ball so easily. But a significant part of their difficulties with the ball was due to less coordinated play because of having quite a different squad for the game. Positioning and running lines often looked a bit off.

One positive was that they kept a lot of pressure on the Reds by bringing their line forward quickly. That also got penalised for that when they were too far forward.

Interesting observations. I thought the Reds looked more structured than I've seen them all season. Up front they dominated the Hurricanes. Almost Every scrum, every breakdown and defended the rolling maul better on the whole.

I'd agree the Hurricanes struggled to retain the ball, handling errors probably cost them quite dearly.

I agree the partnerships for the Hurricanes didn't look right, I thought that about 6 times during the games as set pieces went pear shaped or looked looser than I'd have expected.

I do agree that the Reds had the better pack and won a lot of the confrontations but I don't think that they dominated or looked threatening. It seemed like a game that the Hurricanes could lose rather than a game that the Reds would win.

The Hurricanes had better territory and the Reds didn't go forward as much particularly given their advantage in possession. What was telling is that most of the Hurricane's losses were between the 22s whereas the Reds tended to concede inside the 22s both attacking and defending.

From the article heading I thought there was some official review rather than a journalist reporting an obvious controversy.

I'm much more impressed by the refereeing skills of Chris Pollock the match referee than Ben Strang the journalist.

I did heard a lot of moaning from Crusader's fans before I watched any of the game and that made me sceptical of their claims.

In the Super Rugby games I've seen, the referees have made an impressive number of good decisions in difficult circumstances. The overall quality of the refereeing seems pretty good this season.

Read dropped it plain and simple (courtesy of Smith)

Pretty crazy commentary on the double movement. A tackle has been made, and so the player may place the ball immediately. By getting onto his forearm he has not released the ball and so has infringed.
