Dagg had a pretty good game I thought, easily our best under the high ball. I've said it all along, our best 3 for my money would be Savea (when he plays well) Dagg and Ben Smith on the Wing. Daggs kicking is superior. That doesn't make BS a bad choice at FB obviously, but he contributes just as well on the wing. With Cruden most likely out, I'd expect that combo to play. Naholo isn't quite there for my money, his decision making isn't ideal under pressure I don't think.

 

You need to take those Dagg glasses off.

He missed almost all the high balls and duffed a punt at one stage that he normally would have carved off big metres with.  That's really the only strength he brings to the game, his long distance punting.

Other than that he had a reasonable game - nothing there see's him in the squad for me once Milner-Skudder is fit again.

The AB's tend to pick three reserve backs.  One has to be a halfback, one has to be Barrett to cover first five and fullback (and wing at a pinch), and they generally need a midfielder.  I don't think the coaches would have given up on Savea, and Milner-Skudder will be back.  Add Naholo to that, and play Ben Smith in his best position (fullback), it doesn't leave much room for Dagg in the long term.

Still too many mistakes by the AB's, and it was disappointing they let those two late tries in.  Tamanivalu is clearly still a work in progress and showed some patchy decision making.

ludez: Haha dagg didn't catch or Even commit to a single high ball, he was pretty good on attack I guess, defense nope. Left the back wide open on a bunch of occasions. Hope to see bender back at 15

Dingbatt: Kind of glad it's Australia being beaten up by the brutal English and not the ABs. I wish Charlie Ngatai would get over his headaches to get a run in the midfield but that seems unlikely. Can't rush head injuries.
The question in my mind, with the series in the bag, is it time to experiment a little, or stick with picking the form players only.

Glad Izzy got to 50 tests and scored a try to boot, but I think his real selection purpose was to light a fire under Savea's backside. Once Milner-Skudder is fit, I reckon Dagg will probably just need to carry his cellphone with him when he goes whitebaiting, and wait for his 'Beaver moment'. That was brought home to me when I saw Cory Jane in the commentary team, a great AB that has been left behind.

By the way @Joker97, what is a cyclical foul? Or is it the dreaded predictive text monster playing with your prose?

I didn't watch the game, but the timeline shows the score even about half time? Wales tire again I assume?

Dagg was fine, good and bad things but overall was probably one of the better players tonight.  His kicking was good, lots of meters.  Support play was excellent and he was constantly busy.  A year or two back we had a discussion here about him standing too flat at fullback and not being able to rush cover.  This is exactly what happened again in that last try Wales scored - too flat and then he is easily beaten for pace.

Yeah I agree he was a little too flat, but burned for pace, I disagree, he is closing on that guy 2 more metres he has him.

Heh he was pretty suspect on defense as well though. Two of his mistakes let in a fairly soft try.
