The guy went knowingly onto a Rugby field. If you think he wasn't expecting a response from security you are quite wrong. He would have been expecting to be tackled. The fact he didn't see it coming, well that's just tough. He had the brains to plan, and execute getting past security to expose
himself to 25000 people, you'd think he'd have the brains to watch his flank. There is no scenario by which he didn't create this situation himself, and I have been at matches where the streaker has run rampant due to the security not being tough enough.

He was an idiot and deserved what he got.

manhandled and dragged away?  fine. no problem with that.

tackled in the manner he was - no way.  Simply too over the top and unnecessary.

I repeat one of my comments from the talk I had with the two policeman, which turned out were the two who handcuffed him.

If that was done on the street we would have arrested the guard..

We are not allowed on the field.....

This isn't a mad man running amok with a knife at a kindergarten .... It was a man standing on a sports field surrounded by professional sportsmen at their physical peak and would have held him at bay with one hand.

The force was excessive, disproportionate and the guard should be charged.

I'm not sure if that is particularly relevant. How security deals with streakers would normally be an arrestable offence if it was done in the street. So what?

The only issue I had was the fact that he got hit from behind. No problem with him taking a hit like that front on. I would also have a problem if he hit him front on but it was head-high.

Just because you are on private property doesn't mean you can assault any trespasser.

The cops confirmed this by saying if you had done that at a party they also would have arrested the guard for assault.

People can use reasonable force to detain people commenting a crime on private property.

My contention is what was done was unreasonable with a significant chance of injuring someone who was not a threat and who's "crime" was trespass.

A.

And it sounds like you agree with me that the tackle from behind was wrong.

Based on your comment they could have arrested the guard, the fact they didn't means they didn't think it was worth pursuing. If the cops aren't even allowed on the grounds to prevent or deal with a "crime" then what possible justification did the person who was streaking have? If the cops felt that strongly they could have waited till after the game to charge said guard. I suspect they were just being "agreeable".

Crime was not just trespass, it was indecent exposure. Again, if he hadn't been there, wouldn't have happened.

It's a storm in a teacup, but even if it isn't, perhaps idiots will stay off the field from now on.

have seen the clip - all over stuff (how did i miss that on telly last night?!)

well whatever it is the guard cannot be right. maybe there was no malice/intent in the tackle, but the last thing you want to do is praise the security. not in a first world country anyway.

police has no case for criminal prosecution does not mean you cannot file a civil suit against the assaulter. up to the guy i guess. that would be unquestionably hundreds of thousands of dollars (at the bottom end) padi out by whoever employed that guy if it happened in Australia (checked with my cousin who's a barrister in Melbourne).

networkn:
afe66: The violence shown by the "security guard" tackling the streaker was disturbing to me and lessened the experience.

Several children near us were visibily upset by it.

Police officer I spoke to said it that had happened on the street they would have arrested the guard for assault.

A.

But not upset by a strange man running around naked in front of them, strange.

I say he got exactly what he deserved, and it was cause meet effect. If the guy hadn't been on the field in clear breach of both ground rules, and legal rules about nudity, he wouldn't have been tackled at all.

something I hadn't noticed earlier

From the stuff article:

"The Nude Blacks had earlier in the afternoon won the traditional nude rugby game the precedes the All Blacks' Dunedin test, against the England Invitational side."

Not really sure what your point is here. One event is a specific nude event, where everyone attending understands nudity will be present, they will have dispensation from the council for allowing nudity and no crimes were committed.  Opposite of the situation at the All Blacks Game.

Nudity want the problem at the AB game. The crime was invasion of pitch. Now one naked dude invading pitch people say what's the big deal. Imagine 20,000 on the pitch. Pitch invasion is a no no.

But I don't think treating him like a terrorist was the brightest idea. Then again we now have a trial by media let's see what the public opinion is overall. Probably divided in the middle I guess. But trying to kill him, I can't condone that.

Terrorist? Tried to kill him? What?

Nothing more than a storm in a teacup, though with people running around using emotive descriptions like yours, next minute an apology will be given to him, his criminal charges will be dropped, and he will be made honorary all black for a day.

None of you have clearly seen games massively disrupted by idiots like this running around for 2-3 minutes, stopping the match, shifting players focus. hundreds and hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of dollars are at stake during this  series, and despite
the fact he wasn't acting overtly sexual, there is no guarantee it wasn't about to start. I hope they play this video from stuff before every major game, to remind people that it's illegal and stupid.

People might be laughing, even the players themselves, but it's very disruptive.

Treating him like a terrorist? trying to kill him? Let's not get too excited.

To be devil's advocate - the guy was voluntarily on a rugby pitch. In doing so he assumes the risks of being on the field, including being tackled. Had that tackle occurred in the game to a player without the ball, it was a yellow card offence. Had the guy had the ball, it was nothing.

easonable response from the management of the venue. It was probably a little rough, but he has only himself to blame.

England vs Crusaders only one word to describe it, farcical.

No Crusaders team I have ever watched has played like that
