joker97: Are those incidents a deviation of the norms of society or a reflection of society itself? If it's a reflection of society then really why are society casting stones. Can't have their cakes and eat them too.

I feel it belongs in the same genus as celebs who have influence, and some cannot help themselves taking advantage off that power. Apparently this chick was hot, I'd put money that she propositioned him, and despite being in a public place, his brains relocated themselves.

There are plenty of celebs who cannot handle their fame. You mention if its a society thing, I doubt it, its always been a celeb society thing though.

I didn't see any interview, I saw him front the press in Durban and he looked genuinely upset and remorseful, but I guess that is somewhat normal given the attention it's garnered. The question for his "partner" is how much of these quickies has he had? He has had previous instances of it. Not that there is anything wrong with that, as someone else said, it's really between him and his family and his employer. The press need leave him alone now.

Interview, wrong word, yes, the airport press thing. Its been done, action taken, and at the end of the day it is not anything like the other two incidents. He is getting a lot of support for that very reason. Stupid act, but not nasty like the other two. That being the case, I expect the media to leave them alone shortly. At the airport they were good. No pressure, let him say his thing, then fine that he left.

I don't expect the media to naturally want to leave him alone, but I have a feeling they will, under duress from Steve. And as far as I'm aware it's not a celeb thing. Everybody seems to want to follow what they see on TV, because what TV shows must be normal (in fact is normal in America, where they are produced). And as far as I'm aware no laws were broken - there's no law saying you can't enter a disabled toilet for 10 minutes is there?

Ah, I thought there may have been something else subsequently I have been at a game tonight. Took my 6 Year old to his first live game. AKL v TAS. Was awesome to watch him absorb it all.

It reminded me that it's important our young people see our role models strong, and occasionally show a little weakness.

He supported AKL, I supported TAS. I saw David Havili kick what I think was a 62m Penalty.

Well, the first half wasn't exactly impressive. TJP had a terrible game I thought, awful passing. I can't understand the commentators going on about how good he was. Things improved out of sight with TKB on the park. The first try to TJP shouldn't have been awarded.

I was a little lost as to where BB and LS played, what positions?

Second half was much more like it. I thought Boks defense was good, but I was very frustrated at the height at which the AB's went into tackles. Caused alll sorts of issues. Ryan Crotty was the only one going into contact with his head down. I guess they are trying to stay upright for the offload, but it wasn't on.

I'm excited to see what happens in Eden Park in two weeks time. Wonder if Smith will be playing. With Nahaolo, Savea, Dagg and Smith all fit, it's almost an embarrassment of riches, though I don't think we look as good under the high ball as the Dagg/Jane era.

I couldn't understand the Boks kicking it away so much, they actually made holes when they played ball in hand. It's the worst I've seen the Boks in 10 years maybe. I don't rate their coach in the slightest. It's unforgivable not to have a dedicated Defense Coach and it showed.

For a country that prides itself on its forward power, it must have sent shudders through the Bok faithful to see the Springbok scrum struggle to hook and channel the ball in one of the early scrums. No such problem on the AB's put in. And then to have the ABs have the audacity to score a (disallowed) try from a lineout-rolling maul, must really have shaken them to the core. Poor Brodie Retallick, yet another try disallowed.
I have trouble faulting the play of any of the ABs, 1 to 23.
Sonny-Bill is going to have to prove his chops when fit again. Rather than just pick up the 13 jersey, he is going to need to reclaim it from Lienert-Brown. Not an easy task.
As for Barrett/Sopoaga combo. They seemed to play the same way they did when Barrett and Cruden were on together, with 2 first receivers. Just adds to the confusion for the defence.
Is there a place for a backup kicker in the starting xv? In a close match Barrett's misses may be vital. If that is the case, then step up Damian McKenzie. But the dilemma becomes who do you leave out because Dagg and Smith are playing so well and arguably better than McKenzie in most facets. Or must Crotty or Lienert-Brown be sidelined to put Sopoaga in? Once again they are playing so well neither deserve to be benched. Maybe they should test all the forwards for kicking skills to see if they can find a John Sales amongst them!
The game against the Wallabies on 22 October should see them field their strongest team. The trip to the northern hemisphere will probably see more experimentation, and a look to developing the team of the future.

I was watching the game in a bar with no sound in europe - what was the deal with the Retallick try? It looked to be a try to me, but I don't exactly know the rule.

How I saw it, there was a maul. The front allblack grabbed a springbok to draw him into the maul, then the other springboks who were bound to the maul a bit further back dropped off the maul (and had the front allblack not drawn the other springbok in slightly beforehand, it would have been truck and trailer/obstruction).

What was the call and why, was it clear?

You didn't think TJP was passing poorly? Watch the first 15-20 minutes. Pretty much every pass was too low, too high, or short of it's intended target, it carried on most of his game, but got better toward the end. To be fair I don't think the AB's played that well the first half at all.

Missed tackles were a shocking stat for the Boks, at once stage early in the game it was 12-2, but the AB's had squandered 3 pretty decent chances. Obviously, I am being hyper critical, because, well the perfect game is what THEY want too.

Dagg could cement his case by becoming a second kicker, but bringing up a second kicker, and giving them the kicks in a game, ruins confidence, and I think they just need to get a world class kicking coach involved. I am not sure who their current specialist is. The problem is I think, that the change in his kicking technique may cause issues in the freedom of his other kicks and movements, who knows?

Isn't SBW a 12, so it's actually Crotty he would be usurping?

You are right about people being in form and still being dropped.

I thought it was less contentious and obvious than the TJP try they allowed!

I think the thought was that there were two players in front of the ball carrier and they weren't part of the original maul, and you can't split and start a new maul. I didn't think they played a part in blocking the defense, it was going to be a try, no stopping two people that size that close to the line.

Oops yes, quite right. But just change Crotty for Lienert-Brown in my comment. The sentiment is the same.

So apparently the AB's caused a marriage break up!

Good grief. I am not sure why people feel compelled to share such things with the press. Hardly shines him in the best light smoking and breaking up with his SO over touring NZ. Surely there were other reasons more significant!

Mitre10 Cup Premiership semi finals

I've just been trying to work out who might be playing where and when, but the info online is all very vague.

Canterbury and Taranaki are qualified 1 and 2, with 3 and 4 yet to be decided.

I presume 1 will play 4, and 2 will play 3.

I have found the following dates and times:

Semi 1 : Fri 7:35pm

Semi 2 : Sat 2:35pm

Semi 3 : Sun 2:05pm

Semi 4 : Sun 4:35pm

Is Canterbury in Semi 1, and Taranaki in Semi 2?

Are Semi 3 and 4 the Championship semis?
