Dingbatt: And then there were stats like the Chiefs spending minutes in the opposition 22 in the first half, the Hurricanes 22 seconds!
I completely agree that some refereeing decisions were not evenly applied.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to rewatch the match as my recording was blighted by rain fade so I haven't had a chance to look at some aspects of the game. Particularly the difference between intentional foul play (shoulder charges) vs accidental (slip up high tackles) and how they were punished.
The Chiefs have demonstrated they have a great starting lineup but are really weakened when their substitutes are brought on.
I do think the Hurricanes were found out. They were the only NZ franchise that hadn't played a local derby. They were outstanding in their first two games, but the teams they were playing were woeful (I may have to eat my words when the Chiefs play the Rebels next week). You can throw a blanket over all five NZ franchises they are that close.
I am worried about Barrett's kicking for the ABs.

It's an old cliche but this was a game of two halves.

Canes ran out of time to win it, and if there had been 5 minutes to go after their last try I believe they would have likely won that game.

The two yellow cards cost them the game.  Fatialofa was just dumb.

Bird should have spent 10 minutes in the bin as well, but will probably spend a week or two sidelined instead now - that will surely be cited.

You're worried about Barretts kicking because he missed one shot at goal on a miserable night?

Another game where the Crusaders dug out a victory against the odds. They looked pretty average most of the game, but the ref really gave the Reds the rub of the green. I believe he missed at least 3 forward passes to the Reds and the scrum penalties were about as random as playing dice.

A horror night of Injuries for the Highlanders and Crusaders.

The Highlanders Blues game was one of the most horrible I've watched in a long term.

Try watching it on an iphone,  at a wedding, in Dunedin.

Awful for both teams. Wonder if we will have 15 players to face the canes.

Congrats to England on matching the longest unbeaten record of a tier one Rugby nation.

I suspect they will be extending that a bit over the coming little while. Ireland might put them away, but it will depend as always, which Ireland turns up.

Hopefully the same Irish team that turned up in Chicago!

TKB Gone to France end of 2017.  Aaron Smith better find his form and soon methinks :)

Ultimately I think he just needs to focus on his very core roles. They probably need him to stop running things for a few weeks and focus on his passing, clearing the ball from the Rucks. Once he gets his confidence back he will be fine.

I have been very impressed with Bryn Hall for the Crusaders. His passing has been crisp, and out in front. It's still driving me crazy how often NZ teams lose momentum because of poor passes. Having to stop to reach for the ball..... Crazy.

Well just watched two come from behind wins.
The Crusaders showed their class in the second half to best the Blues, and the Chiefs burgled a win from the Rebels. I really thought the Chiefs played like a bag of A-holes, Ill-disiplined and lacking attitude (according to the assistant coach). Still as a Chiefs fan I'll take the bonus point win despite thinking I was going to have to eat my words from earlier in the thread.

The Blues/Crusaders game was certainly the cliched 'game of two halves' but the 'Saders showed why they are a champion side, even without the likes of Read and Dagg. As for the Blues, they showed what they are capable of at the front end of the game but seemed to lose focus.
Looking froward to the Hurricanes Highlanders tomorrow night.

Which particular cock up? There seemed to be multiple times when things were missed or misinterpreted. But if you are talking about the Rebels lineout that was turned into a Chiefs penalty, foul play always trumps an error. And remember the Chiefs were hot on attack within the Rebel's 22 at the time, so I'm not sure that there was a huge momentum shift.
The ref gave "a final warning" to both sides about play off the ball, but then only penalised the Rebels when it occurred later, rather than the yellow card he had threatened. The flip side to that is when, but for a flailing arm, I thought the Chiefs were about to get another yellow card for a shoulder charge.
I am frustrated that the Chiefs don't seem to be able to adapt to the way the referee is officiating the match. They, perhaps arrogantly, think their way is the only way. The Rebels, and in particular their loose forwards, mastered the breakdown and effectively wrecked the Chiefs gameplan which relies on fast recycling. So the turning point may have been when their chief pilferer, Colby Fainga'a, was subbed off.

ludez: I'm talking about the blues game

Heh, seems to me that about 42 minutes into a game, the engine room of the Crusaders wakes up and then basically rumbles over the opposition, and as yet, opposition forwards don't have an answer for it.

The Blues have a long History of being a 40 minute team.
