Hurricanes looked pretty slick tonight, they were pulling off things the Highlanders were trying to but weren't getting the bounce of the ball.

Ben Smith possibly had his worst game in recent memory, definitely felt he was back a couple of weeks too early. Faddes was sharp I thought.

The Barretts are really lighting up the fields right now. Except BB place kicking which is horrible.

The horse had already bolted, the stable door closed, and the stall mucked out, and the last Hurricanes try by Aso was great... Except for the fact he was about 2 metres ahead of the kicker, and the other chaser ( Barrett) was 3m! Such is the difficulty in reffing such a dynamic and highly paced game.
I look at the talent on display in the NZ franchises and all the players who are coming up for All Black consideration. It should warm the heart of any ABs fan.

What is it about the Irish! Not record makers but certainly record stoppers :-)

Yep, its sport at its best. Happens all the time. One side/player has nothing to lose, they other does, and can play not to lose, rather than to win. An exciting running of the ball which works for them, turns into a hold the ball as we might make a mistake and let them in. Moral is, play your own game, its what gave all the success so far, but like many, they didnt do that.

Yep, beaten by Scotland, who was thrashed by ENG, then IRE beats ENG. I feel this highlights my just before post nicely. Low scoring game, it was about holding on by ENG, not playing to win.

Damnit I don't know why I didn't think! Read this before watching the game. I guess it saved me 60 minutes.

Quade Cooper had a good game against the Crusaders last week. Probably his best game in 5 years, but last night against the Lions he had a howler. Poor in defense, questionable attacking, and gone for a Red card and his team got a hiding.

Nice win by the Crusaders over the Force. Great to see them lead from the start for a change this season. But how embarrassing for the Force to take a scrum from a penalty and then get pushed off the ball by a 7-man Crusaders pack!

It was a nice comfortable win, but other than that one moment, how embarrassing for the all blacks front row (and in fact scrum in general) to continually be penalized every few minutes and lose a guy (and lucky to lose just one) to the bin!

Honestly, I know nothing about scrummaging so I can't say what was fair or not, but it seemed scrum resets dominated that game. It really felt like the two front rows just weren't compatible. I play quite bit of squash and sometimes you'll find someone rated much lower than you, that always gets the mettle on you because of their style of play.. It felt a little like that.

What was really nice was to see Sam choose to go to the line for that last try, clearly thinking about later in the competition.

Defensive lapses worry me. I wonder how we will fare against teams who play with more flair like the Hurricanes?

Two very strange tries awarded, one to each team.

Blues made it all look like hard work, well off form.

Yep. It seems to me that the main difference between some teams is that last 20 minutes where superior fitness wins them the games.

Chiefs had no business winning, though I felt they would because they do so well when teams get tired and they can throw miracle passes. I'd say the reffing was pretty generous to them as well, esp since they missed 2+ forward passes, and a massive knock forward.

Messam in his 150th still couldn't restrain his thuggish behaviour unfortunately, deciding to smash a player on the ground with an elbow. He is such a stalwart for the Chiefs, I wish he could find a way to rub this stuff from his game.

Higgenbothom is playing more like himself, with some Read type throws against the Hurricanes, but the Hurricanes are winding themselves up and look hard to beat.

Good to see the historical hallmark of world Union the Auckland Blues deciding to win a few.

Although lets not forget super rugby, doesnt represent your regional club, it is just a fictitious name made up of rugby mercenaries looking for the best money they can get, if it wasnt for this clubs like the Highlanders and Chiefs wouldnt have had a chance in NZ rugby prior.

In fact I think it was 5 years in a row Auckland didnt lose a single match before super rugby turned up.

Im sure all the other clubs would love to go back to the those days :-)

On a serious note, I hope the Blues, Hurricanes and Highlanders can make it.

Impressive win by the Crusaders again. A few notable things. Firstly, have refs now stopped bothering to check if throws are straight in a lineout. Some of the worst throwing I've seen by Warratahs and only 1 from 5 picked up. I am not sure if it's the camera angles but it really feels like so many of the passes (Crusaders included) were forward. That big 23 was Nadolo freaky big and powerful.

Everytime I doubt the Crusaders they surprise me, I thought they should have taken the shot at goal but instead they went for, and got, a bonus point try.

Congrats to them for being the first NZ team to ever win 10 in a row against Australian opposition! Wyatt Crockett becomes first equal 175 Super Rugby Caps, next week he will be the most capped ever. Something seriously amazing about 175 games. Most penalized too, at 158 though!

Any rule against you sliding in front of a player moving to the try line, so you effectively arrive parallel but in front of the line? Basically so you block the try being scored without tackling the player?

In what regard? Why would you not want to tackle the player, is it due to being in an offside position?
