Can't really agree with that. It wasn't a knockdown, but it was interference of what was a very likely scoring opportunities (1st one). He had no real chance of securing the ball, so even though he made it look like he was going for the ball it was never going to happen.

Hmm I cant find the rule thats in play here but I am comfortable it wont say "no real chance of securing the ball".  The rules need to be consistent around this, as it happens almost every game.  If it comes off its amazing, but play is often breaks down because of it.  I have seen previous discussions that if you go for an intercept and ever know it on its a penalty (risk vs reward).  If you go for an intercept and knock the ball down or away on purpose its a penalty and yellow card.

Well, either way, he deserved both yellows and his red then, surely? I don't think it should go any further. A suspension for it would be really poor, but then it can easily change the outcome of the game, esp if it's tight and near the end. It's a difficult one.

What a miracle pass for the Storners. They deserved that win. I haven't seen the whole game, but I am struggling to see how that last Chiefs try didn't have a single forward pass in it as well. They passed the ball back and forward with no real movement, near the try line.

If you haven't seen the whole game, how do you figure that they deserved to win? Is it because they were playing the Chiefs?
A knock on at the base of the ruck before the Stormers first try, and a deliberate knock down in front of the posts that prevented a Chiefs try went unpunished (every bit as bad as B.Barrett's one). Peyper went back to the offside infringement and the Chiefs had to settle for 3 instead of 7. The Chiefs should have been playing 13 men at that stage.
The Chiefs had a hopeless spell on defence in the second half that lost them the game, and frustrated as I am by the result, it was an entertaining game.
When do the only two unbeaten teams in the competition meet I wonder?
At home for the Crusaders in a fortnight, should be a cracker!

Not, not because it was the Chiefs, kinda sensitive to that, aren't you? If you saw the entire game, did any of the angles show a forward pass in that bunch of passes near the try line for the Chiefs out of interest? (and yes I would have been reviewing it if it were Crusaders who scored it)

That pass was why, it was a beauty.

Stats show the Chiefs really *should* have won, but what I gather, forwards dominance was the difference.

Not sure where I've ever hidden my support of the Crusaders, given I am from Christchurch. Not sure what's wrong with it?

I have issues with some part of the Chiefs game (in the last season and a half it's been much less of an issue), I've been pretty open about it, but I have also had some good stuff to say about them when I've felt it was warranted. I also have an issue with Crusaders (Joe Moody) and others (Jerry Collins and Rodney from the Hurricanes) who are thugs on-field.

I also supported them during stripper-gate which I felt was just nonsense.

The world need to know:

Is that an admission of bias?

I was talking about bias, not support. And I didn't say there is anything wrong with it -- perhaps you're overly sensitive on this topic? ;)

I was merely finding it amusing that you are still unaware of or unwilling to admit a bias which seems to be pretty apparent to people who follow this thread.

Dingbatt seemed to have a reasonable point though, you said the Stormers deserved to win without even having seen the game. You went on to state that the chiefs dominated stats and "should" have won. To say someone should have won but didn't deserve to win is contradictory. If you should have won, it stands to reason you would have been deserving of that win, does it not? All things considered, it's reasonable to ask whether a bias impacted on your reporting of the game.

We can all agree that the pass from the Stormers player was top drawer though.

Had you said that the Stormers deserved to win for that pass alone I'm sure some of us would have agreed with your sentiment. Some may have made a counter-argument referencing the chiefs "amazing" team try. Interestingly, neither the live south african commentary nor the south african super sport breakdown mentioned anything about forward passes in relation to that try.

Dingbatt: But then any intercept is interference in a potential scoring move, isn't it? I rewatched the first one multiple times, and in my opinion, there was a genuine attempt to catch the ball. While constant referrals to the TMO become a blight on the flow of the game, for something that impacts the game as markedly as a yellow card, I believe they are essential.

I think Barretts reaction after the knock down shows he was cynically knocking it down, and knew he was going to be bin before he turned around to see the ref.

He's used his outside arm and swiped down and left, just a reactionary flick, but when a team is hot on attack and have plenty of numbers outside, that has to be taken into account.  (he is the type of player who could have caught that ball, but his arm movement suggested otherwise)

The fact he stood offside on the first one probably didn't help his case.

Not sue how the second yellow was not a penalty try. Ref said there was defensive cover, which is why he didn't give it.  To me, it looked like a 4 or 5 on 2 - the man coming back for the caes couldn't have stopped it, and the receiving player was in a gap.

Dear Sunwolves, welcome to New Zealand rugby (again, this time with home advantage). Hope you enjoyed the master class. Great spectacle but also what is wrong with Super Rugby. Maybe culling 3 teams isn't enough, back to the SuperXII maybe?
Congratulations to Wyatt Crockett on setting the Super Rugby record and glad to see he got a standing ovation, although I would have expected nothing less. More caps than the entire Sunwolves team.

Heh, as a Crusaders fan, I don't think I'd have called that a masterclass. The Crusaders were awful in the second half really. So many handling errors and poor decisions. Should have been 70-3. Admittedly they did bring on some newbie players and it was wet. The new halfback was awful for about 10 minutes. I guess he was just over keen.

The Sunwolves didn't really attack, it was horrifying. It's the worst I've seen them play I think.

Wyatt Crockett is one seriously impressive player having that level of longevity and I suspect he has at least 1-2 more seasons in him too.

Only in the final quarter really, once Read, Crockett and Whitelock were subbed. But they were trying to play dry field rugby on a field that wasn't. Any time a player forms a bow wave when diving in for a try, it is wet! When you are that far in front things get attempted that just wouldn't be in a tight game.
If you concede that the Crusaders had an off night, what does that say about the opposition?

Edit: Added a comment about things being attempted.

Agreed actually, the last quarter was the issue and same about the dry play in wet weather. The hot potato thing is going to cause them troubles soon I think. It's the fastest way to an intercept try. They need to be patient and trust their forwards.

George North is looking sharp, and Read looked good first game back. I like Mo'ounga's running style of 10 play. Was Seta injured or yanked as punishment?

After last week fiasco with dirt bag ben smith being offside 3 times and not called and knocking the ball out of the hands forward and 3 other infringements not picked up by the refs, I feel the Blues deserve a break this weekend.

They are gathering momentum culturally, I think Tana has a lot to do with that more than his coaching.

Man Sonny Bill looked hot to trot last week, that line break then the step was back to his NRL early years, sublime. Pitty the idiot he passed to didnt see Duffie and another unmarked player to his right or the game would have gone the blues way even with the ref and Ben Smith. I hate blaming refs, which Im not, the blues should have one that despite not getting the calls, but really that last 20 minuntes it was like the refs had been handed a quick $100k by the highlanders.

Was typical SI Jafa superiority complex by the dunners crowd boooing Sonny Bill (who is a world cup winner for them) as he came on. Quite clearly just the small man syndrome from the sub 85kg whities, whilst every second poster (their mrs) said, Marry Me SBW ! ;-p

Will be good to see how good they really are against a better opposition tonight. Either way Im happy as I like both teams.
