Don't get me started on the blatant shoulder charge on the Chief's player by Lion's 1... Firstly, it was a bit late, but even when played in slow motion, when the Lion's player went in, you could see he deliberately shoulder charged him too as the slow motion suddenly 'increased' speed as he shouldered him in... Only a yellow card which was a bit disappointing...

Was only a yellow as the contact started below the shoulders, and stayed there. A red card for that would have been very harsh I think. (ie, it's 2 penalty only offences, late tackle, and no arms)

As to Reason, when I see his articles its always NZ rugby fan boy stuff, so thats what I found surprising.

The four articles (prior to this one) I can find that mention NZ are titled:

Mark Reason: 'Despair and anger to grip NZ' after Lions' series win (25 April 2017)

Mark Reason: All Blacks versus England is going to be a rivalry for the ages (14 March 2017)

Mark Reason: Confidentiality on Patrick Tuipulotu's positive test damages New Zealand rugby (7 Feb 2017)

Mark Reason: We deserve better analysis from host of former All Blacks in TV rugby commentary (26 June 2016)

None of them seems to be NZ rugby fanboy stuff to me. Maybe some of his other articles are not showing when I search for him but yeah, seems to be doing what Chris Rattue does for the herald - try and write controversially.

Points taken. I do recall, and anecdotally, seeing him being over NZ biased, but happy to be proven incorrect.

As regards Reasons article, and the replies, yes, rugby is a sport that allows a very grey response to issues. Its not black and white. Some things get missed. Blocks, illegal tackles, hands in the ruck and so on. But its about getting a consistent ruling on interpretation, and ref consistency. Even then, things will get missed, and thats ok.

So, is blocking ok? Is Reason 100% wrong? When I read the Stuff comments from his article, there is a trend. "You talk 1% bad about kiwi rugby, shame on you, get out" To me, that's kiwi arrogance. Its fine to be kiwi rugby focussed, but if that causes a rose coloured reaction, that isn't fine. I follow a few sports, I want my team to win, but I value the sport. If the other team/player/driver won, bugger. But if they were great, and my team did their best, I'm happy. Its sport. But this kiwi rugby fanism, I do find that embarrassing at times. It comes across as NOTHING about the sport its ONLY about the kiwi result. For a teeny country that punches above its weight in a few sports we deserve to act better. And we often do, but the squeaky wheel isn't a great look, at times.

Reason is anti NZ rugby in a big way.

It's always NZ cheats, again and again.

Find me a pro NZ article written by reason and I'll be surprised.

Although I'm sure he just writes that stuff for the comments.....

sorry to open up healing wounds but it's about time.

IIRC the last time the Lions came here, some random guy called Tana Umaga and his bad ass co captain Kevin Mealamu picked up the best no 13 in the world and tried to kill him. They succeeded, the Lions lost their leader and it became a whitewash.

Me as a fan felt cheated. From that day on, I believe every word said about ABs cheating. It's true, they are rugby players - they all cheat.

Predictions?

TAB see 28-16 going by their sports odds

My UK mate reckons BIL will kick all day, I think they will bring a new strategy that they have held back. Kiwi teams so far seem not adept at adapting when its not the standard kick all day mentality of the ENG guys. I see less tries from NZ than many anticipate, more from BIL than many expect, and BIL hammering many more penalties. I see 2 tries to 1 for AB's 7 to 4 kicked penalties to BIL, so a very close scoreline, less than 8. This, very decideable based on good or bad refs call or getting the run of the green or not. In short I see AB not doing as well as TAB think, and BIL doing a bit better

ABs never lose in Eden Park isn't that right? Also they seldom lose anywhere. I'm just hoping to watch a good game.

I sadly see this game as being a let down. Too much hype and too many articles leading up to it. Doesn't help that the weather will be terrible and most likely for all 3 tests.

No, that's incorrect. They lose at Eden Park

Yes, they seldom lose. How good are they? When Richie, Dan, Corey, etc etc left, we then won a few games against low tier sides, or top tier sides in poor form, and it became the best team in decades. That still winds me up. I expect them to win this weekend, but not the blow out many seem to feel

I think it will be. Two sides that are unproven against each other, we have just had a few hints so far, thats all

Looks damp, but not really wet? As per my post, I'm hoping for a strategic game, not what many expect, style wise. I just hope that run of the green or refs don't sway the result.

58 - 12 to the All Blacks.

The All Blacks brains trust to unlock the Lion's rush defence with some lovely work by Beaudy and the crew.
Warrenball to fail once again.

Yeah I just checked the forecast is much better now. That will help to make it a better game. Still think the hype has been a bit too much though

I haven't seen much of the hype.

Maybe I'm too wound up and nervous about the other sporting event happening Sunday and Monday in Bermuda.

I watched the last 4 BIL games - the game against the Maoris last weekend was pretty emphatic - the Maoris were never really in it and got closed down by the rush defense and 10 man rugby.

Hopefully (and I don't think it will) it won't work against a better prepared ABs team with a game already under their belt and a lot more time together.

I'm picking a really tight first half - BILs to get first points on the board (maybe two scores up, probably penalties but not ruling out a try). ABs to come back from the 30th minute through to the 70th. 33-19 to NZ.
