Kingy: The ref really did have a shocker. I have no complaints about the penalty try being awarded (pretty much a standard thing if you give away multiple penalties in scrums while on your own 5m line) however I don't really understand how he didn't give one (+ a yellow) for the cynical foul after the break SBW made. It was a certain try for sure.

Yep it was a shocking miss by him. S.H has every reason to be unhappy with tv producers too, they are blatantly interring with games.

It's not the broadcaster/producer's job to control and run the game, it's the referees.

Whilst I agree Shag has a point, bleating in the media is not the way to address it. Owen's had a 'mare all round unfortunately.

You're correct but it's quite obvious in at least 2 of the All Blacks games this year the ref was influenced by the crowd because the ground producer played replays over and over which got the crowd in a frenzy.

I agree, just making the point that the issue is with the ref's - it's not up to the TV producer/s, the ref's need to ignore it.

It's also worth mentioning that Whitelocks try being called a knock on is outrageous too.

if this continues into the RWC one or two teams will feel very hard done by. and it won't be the home team.

Edit: you don't need repeated inciting replays to stuff up a game. people do that very well too, not esp if your first name is wayne and the last name is barnes

networkn: Boy did the ref have a howler yesterday. Shocking really.  Yellow card despite being advised against it no less than 3 times by the video ref? Reviewing the try AFTER the try was awarded?! There were a bunch of things that went really wrong for him he seemed in LaLA land.

Aaron Cruden needs to sort his kicking out quick smart, but then I don't rate him as our best number 10 anyways. The sooner DC gets back the happier I'll be, though I know that isn't a long term solution. I don't recall a time I felt Cruden looked comfortable kicking, compared to the likes of BB and DC or even Colin Slade.

We need a couple of Emphatic wins this last two tests I think for our confidence. We don't look quite as commanding as we did this time last year.

You have seen Barrett kick this year for the all blacks haven't you? He's been woeful as well and certainly wasn't good on the weekend. He's a great impact player but doesn't run the backline as well as Cruden IMO. Cruden is a much better passer and gets the backline running and everyone involved whereas Barrett's lightning quick and great running at tired legs.

I think the mix is right except for the crappy goal kicking.

i thought the ABs were fine. except for 2 people.
last week SBW thought he was playing league.
today DC was clueless!

Which  is not a problem, coz he's rusty.
Problem is if they can't decide who's first / 2nd (3rd/4th doesn't matter much) to lead them at flyhalf, we've got a big problem.
THe thought of a RWC in front of a 100,000 crowd brings back memories of 1999. I was doing exams and watching every game and man the atmostphere could vaporise you.

Anyway, I thought he looked awesome in that jersey though ...

That's about what I expected. B string side played like a B string side. Scotland played well but lacked that finishing touch.

DC did indeed look a bit rusty but it's hard to put it in context when the back line is very much an untried combo. The attack throughout was very static. You saw the difference when Savea came on and gave us that go forward.

They played like a B string side, but that's not what I expected. I did think Parsons showed some promise but not too many others did much for their cause.

I don't remember the last time we knocked on from the kickoff, and it turned out to be a bit of a sign of things to come. It will go down as a win, but not a memorable one.

And I suspect we won't see people rubbishing DC for missing easy kicks as we did with Cruden last week, but goes to show anyone can have an off day with the boot.

So Slade and Ben Smith have proven they have the skills to cover most of the back positions. Happy to see different locks performing well. Perenara is still second to Smith by a margin, and since I have my doubts that Kerr-Barlow will ever fully recover from such a serious knee injury, it's a shame Pulu didn't get more game time.
McCaw had a pretty average game, but at least the Ref didn't penalize him off the park.
DC also had a pretty average game, against a second tier nation at that. If rustiness is allowed as an excuse for him, then the same has to be applied to the other first fives. The skills and the vision are still there but the body seems to be a metre behind and so he doesn't have the time to produce that incisive play.
Piutau had a good game and having him on one wing and Savea on the other must strike fear into the opposition hearts.
Next week, do the coaches go all out and bring back, Reid, Whitelock, Franks, Crockett, Coles, Aaron Smith, Cruden, Williams, Conrad Smith, Savea and Dagg for the run on side? Not sure how bad the injuries are to Kaino, Vito, Tuipolotu are, but they may also figure in the mix.
I am in good heart that the loss of a single player to injury in the next RWC will not send the country into a panic like it did the last time.

this is my top 4 fly halves in the country - Barrett/Slade/Cruden/Taylor
Richie looks spent. they better give him another 6 month sabbatical after this tour if they want to play him at the RWC

and remember, 100,000 singing against you (for the opposition) is going to have an mighty "16th man" impact

I can't disagree more about Ritchie. EVERY week the stats show him as the first to the breakdown, most turn overs and most tackles, it has a toll, but no way is that guy spent. I am tired of the old chestnut it's time for him to retire. Without him we would be in some trouble.

Agree completely about the order of the 10's though, Slade has really shown he AB's material, and I have never really rated Cruden.

DC looked pretty ordinary tonight but I think it was partially because of the other players around him.

Early mistakes (handling) seemed to be slippery ball but decision making and finishing just weren't right with this team.

Most underrated player right now in my opinion is Dane Coles, people talk about the impact player being Savea, but I thought Parsons was horrible in Debut and Perenara is miles behind Aaron Smith. Bring back Ellis says I!

This guy is suggesting we don't have the depth we think we do, but that is just stupid reporting, because you cannot reasonably expect 15 changes, 2 positional and 13 players to not have an impact in cohesive play. Generally when you refer to depth, it's the ability to switch a player or two and not lose much.

I agree with you about Ritchie. He was man of the match against England for crying out loud, he has a blinder against Aussie in the 50+ romp (even after being yellowed) and every match he gives his all. Today not only was he playing at 6, he also ended up playing a large chunk at 8. While these positions aren't new to him, it's not all that often he plays them. End of the day Cane played OK without being special (I don't really remember his name being said much).

Also I agree about Coles. Parsons was very ordinary and I haven't seen much of Harris because of his injury. It's very obvious that Mealamu isn't losing his bench spot any time soon.
