Wow Crotty. Beuaden barret would have tried to go alone. his brothers are ok, but he BB is such an arrogant little twerp.

Surprising someone from Tarananki to have no humility and be so up them selves, perhaps maturity.

What a load of nonsense. Please stop with the personal drivel when you have no evidence.

Crotty plays with maturity, baretts are losing us this game. 7-10 against France, WTF

Auck might not be super rugby champs but they never let this crap happen in their 5 year winning reign prior to letting other provinces buy external players.

Sorry but BB is just all over himself not their for NZ.

This is without doubt the weakest All Blacks team in history. I dont think thats arguable.

I see you are showing you know as much about Rugby as you seem to know about everything other sport.

The ABs are renowned for their second half game - and the French forwards looked decidedly tired by the end of the first half. So making such calls against the ABs before half time shows a lack of knowledge of the game and team.

Yeah I think the French fitness let them down on what could have been a massive upset.

I dont mind losing to good teams, Ireland was a real let down as was the other massive loss before it. Hopefully we can get ourselves looking a little more dominant prior to the world cup.

I just watched the game, gave up on it. Yellow for France when it was no where near neck, as all commentators agreed. No yellow for the AB's after the head clash incident. Cane high tacked the neck and jaw, Smith even said he expected two AB yellows. Then Ioane gets a forward pass for a try, so shut off the game and deleted the recording

The Cane thing was discussed on the field as the French player was falling and below hip level. I believe the ref watched the video replay. He didn't with the French yellow.

However the French got no warning or card for repeated offsides in their 22, and considering the gameplan was obviously to be in the ABs backline, they are curiously ommitting this when they bleat about not getting the 'rub of the green'.

There is a lack of consistency around the head high thing that frustrates players, coaches and fans alike.

I don't believe the French yellow card was warranted.   I believe a yellow card was warranted for Cane for the arm to the chin (on the interpretation being used today, where there is no leeway given to the defender in relation to the position of the attacker at the time of the tackle).  I wouldn't be surprised to see Cane cited.  What happened after that was an accident that happens in contact sport.

I though the ref had a pretty good game overall.  He let things flow pretty well I thought and I was stoked to see him march someone early for backchat.  It's becoming a blight on our game and if we don't stop it we will end up like soccer, and even rugby league, where everybody comes in to have their say.  Only the captain or vice-captain should be able to speak to the ref.

Given the bleating that goes on about how much involvement the AR's and TMO's have, its unfortunately been unsurprising the amount of commentary around 'the ref should have referred to the TMO'.  Like most things in life people want to have their cake and eat it too.  Refs are human - they will make mistakes.  The only way to stop most mistakes is to refer everything before making a decision.  Which option do we want for rugby?  There is no in between because that necessitates hindsight, and we see how much disagreement is involved from either side when matters are 'discussed' in hindsight.

Offside calls are generally the responsibility of the AR's, unless around the edges of the ruck, as the ref is not in a position to call them, so he relies on the calls for offside coming from the sideline.

I'd be happy to have that ref again.

Unfortunately after last night I think the next two tests will be pretty one-sided.

I watched the 3 big tests this weekend.

AB's v France - France were in it within reason for 50 minutes, the tide was starting to turn and the AB's would likely have won regardless of the incorrectly awarded yellow to the French. I am not sure about the other potential cardable offenses. There was a yellow to Cane for Contact to the head, I still seriously doubt the French would have won. There were some amazing tries in that game. It's the first really good game I've seen McKenzie play at test level, he was excellent, his pace was amazing. Crotty was everywhere, lots of strong AB's performances.

Aus v Ireland - I think Australia have improved out of sight. It goes to show the difference test Rugby makes to players. Australia's defense was on the whole really superb. I will be watching the rest with great interest.

Easily the best game of the weekend was SA v England. Maybe one of the best games I've seen in years. What a fierce competition it was. South Africa looked amazing at times. Nothing like the limp performances they had put on frequently over the past couple of years.  I highly recommend it. Elliot Daly kicks a penalty from 60m out!

I thought that it was a decent first game of the season. The set piece was good and defence was improved on last year. The only try conceded was from an intercept. That was my biggest concern last year - there were a ton a soft tries conceded last year. The discipline was better as well. It appears that there has been a concious effort to lower the contact point in the tackle.

A long way to go but a solid start.

Interestingly when they said they would try and get around the rush defense, and I was looking at how they might do that, prior to the game I said to my FIL that I thought interceptions could be a factor in the AB's game. Turns out I was right!

Given they are reinventing their game, I expect some ropey games, maybe some losses. I expect them to be better for it in the long term.

Additional comments I have thought of since the first test of the year.

1) No longer is there daylight between Dane Coles and everyone else. Codie Taylor has proven himself to be an outstanding test hooker. He has pace and great instincts.

2) The try by Laumape was outstanding. He is incredibly strong.

3) As far as Iaone is, he was mowed down by the French Winger. Another couple of meters and I am not sure it would have been scored. That 14 is SERIOUSLY quick.

You might be surprised how many people, myself included have never thought that there was that bigger difference between the two. Coles has always been faster but Taylor also showed a lot of pace in his early All Black games.

I watched him slow down and let the wing catch up: he used only as much energy as he needed to score the try. But if he hadn't held the ball high on his chest it might have been dislodged by the wing's swinging arm.

It was poor technique - if he’d had the ball in the other hand it couldn’t have been dislodged.

That is one opinion/interpretation of the rules. The Ref, the TMO and the citing panel all cleared them of wrongdoing. There are situations where someone ends up with contact, that would be unavoidable, those situations need to be taken into effect.

This is a FULL contact sport, there are a LOT of fast-moving bodies and body parts, wet grass, uneven surfaces, sudden directional changes. It's inevitable some occasional unfortunate contact will occur.

I fully support the current rules and protocols around protecting players heads.

I dont disagree, but there is a clear conflict, who is right?? Plus, the number of times the AB's are called cheats, Richie was called a cheat, its continual. You can debate that its just sour grapes from opposing sides, or sour grapes from diehard AB supporters, but Ive never seen a sport where there is this type of theme

As to the artilcle being one opinion, yes it is, although contains not just one purveyor of that opinion. Discounting it is also just an opinion. Smoke and there is fire thats all
