I entirely agreed with the red card decision but was massively disappointed when the crowd erupted into cheers when the card was presented. It robbed the game of it's chance to be a spectacle. I can only thank goodness that the AB's also rarely put on a poor performance two tests in a row either.

I was at the game.

Most of the people around me (ABs and French supporters) cheered when the ref went for his pocket, but reacted negatively when they realised it was a red card.  It was loud, but where I was it wasn't a positive reaction to the red at all.

I don't think the ref had any option but to issue the red according to the rules.

I think we need to have an orange card.  A player orange carded would be sent off the field for the duration of the game and placed on report.  But, unlike a red card, after 10 minutes they can be replaced with a different player.  So the team is reduced to 22 players, still 15 on the pitch.

An orange card is an interesting idea. Maybe 20 minutes though, since 10 minutes is the same as yellow where you get your player back.

I commented to my FIL that as a result of the Red Card and the action that caused it, actually 2 players were sent off permanently, though (and this is why he is the best coach in the world) Steve Hansen said the issue was likely with the forwards not fronting up (too much to do with too little game time) and therefore even BB wouldn't possibly have fixed our horrible game.

As mentioned above, I expect workloads to be lowered this week for training and just skills and fitness being the priority. I don't think there is much wrong with the AB's game plan, just their execution and discipline.

I was also impressed and respect his desire to look at the role he played in the poor game. He really does lead from the front. He himself has admitted his weaknesses (such as his prior interaction with the press etc) and has worked on them. Sets an amazing example.

What a shambles. Red Card Nixxed.

So the Frogs get a one working day turnaround, Barrett gets the ongoing concussion symptoms and there's basically an admission from the IRB you can recklessly injure All Blacks and the refs are wrong to penalise it.

Meanwhile, they'll never front up about questionable cards (the Ireland game) or botched calls (Lions test) when the All Blacks are on the receiving end.

Does anyone want to seriously try and claim the ABs get favouritism from World Rugby now?

Feel very sorry for Angus. I think he reffed that game excellently, and to the letter of the law (regarding the red card at least) and this is World Rugby basically hanging him out to dry.

The law needs to be tidied up around this area. Really think we need to look at a report system like league.

They have said the ref was in no way to blame for his decision, but now every ref is going to have no idea what to award.

I look forward to them rescinding Barrett's concussion.

I've never heard of this! Red card cancelled after Hansen says something.

I think that says a lot about the laws of rugby being so complicated that nobody knows what the right decision is.

I don't blame the ref, but the dumb lawmakers.

So do all the points scored after the red card get wound back?

Little consolation to the French.

Yes, the rule about safety has been ignored in an incident in which an All Blacks player (and a fairly pivotal one at that) was concussed and has to miss the next match. Let's focus on the poor French, shall we?

What rule was ignored? Don't jump when Beauden Barrett jumps?

I am surprised to see so many debutants in this weeks line up. Seems to be that injury has forced some of these.

Luke Whitelock hasn't really stepped up as I would have hoped, he felt a little invisible to me. It will be interesting to see how he goes in this third test.

Hopefully, the forwards fare better this week then we can see if DM is really any good at 10. I have my suspicions it isn't going to work, but let's hope for the best.

Most surprising to me is Frizell who I hadn't even heard of before the start of the SR season.

Frizell will do well I reckon. A big, tough, abrasive loosie in the Jerome Kaino mould. Will add some sting in the Ab's defence and some go forward which the AB's pack seemed to lack in that 2nd test

Just blindly running into the contest area doesn't automatically mean you are in a position to contest.

I agree with this.

The complication from the wiping of the red card, comes about due to the claim from the judiciary as I understand it, that the reason Fall was not in a position to catch this ball was a collision with Lienart Brown and actually that ALB had contributed to the fall of Barrett himself.
