Ireland, hard to say how good they are. They have nice results, but nothing startling. Two wins in AUS now doesn't look world beating, but its the only real guide. What you will get is passion.

The second win in Australia was razer thin margin as well.  A couple of reffing decisions that went in their direction would have made the difference easily.

I do think that as discussed before, there is an element of a certain type of game not suiting some teams. Occasionally I play one guy in squash, he has a terrible win record and is rated really pretty low in the rankings, however I've never beaten him even though I should easy win every game/match. He plays a type of game I find really hard to get any fluidity in and he is really super unpredictable.

Very much so re styles. That's sort of where I am coming from. These players are all good, some great, the odd one greater than great. But not much use if the other side keeps the ball away from them the game style away from them. That's where the coaches come in looking at plays and set pieces, even the general game pattern. Simple things like one NRL game Fusitua hardly touched the ball. Best winger in the league and never sees the ball.

Even if IRE had lost due to your reasons, the pattern is there, they are close. Might be better than AUS or close, so its not that great for a No.2  But I love their passion. Being No.2 can make them grow a leg.    I guess we will soon find out.

Batman: Maybe this explains what i was trying to say

https://i.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/international/107133693/still-a-chasm-between-all-blacks-and-boks-claims-south-african-rugby-analyst

I'm not sure what your previous post was, but I agree with the article, there is a chasm between them. The result changes nothing. It just means that if you target the right things, we are more than beatable. Let AB's control things, you lose. Take it to them, you might win. That in itself is pressure on us.

But in this thread I seem to be the anti AB guy, but I am actually not.

World Rugby advise teams to cover up tattoos at Rugby World Cup in Japan to avoid causing offence

Maybe I'm just a disrespectful lout but if I was a player with tatts in the RWC, I would not be particularly inclined to cover them up. Especially if they were cultural tattoos.

I know plenty of tattooed Japanese people.

MANY players have Tats, why offer to host the Cup if you were aware that some of the players might have tats? Crazy.

I am all cultural sensitivity, but seriously!?

Isn't it something to do with a perceived link to the Yakuza?

Wouldn't common sense prevail in most intelligent people for them to think that the Yukuza aren't likely running around on the pitch during a Rugby game?

It is - that is what is in the article. They state that they're trying to educate people living near stadiums that if they see people with tattoos, then they're not Yakuza - just rugby players. Which should be fairly obvious. I can't imagine there are many non-Japanese Yakuza, so if locals see a white guy or a Polynesian with tatts, they don't have to go clutching their pearls.

I mean, I have been to Japan multiple times, I dont have tats, but I have seen other tourists running around, with tats, no-one treated them any differently.

Crazy!

A rugby issue and I am still in the minority! :-)

I haven't delved into this, but my belief is if there is a culture issue, respect it. They arent asking them to be grafted off. There are so many cultures in this world it isn't funny. I support the AB's in respecting another culture.

So, the original article has been modified it would seem. It originally seemed like the players were being asked to cover up on field, which is in my opinion, ludicrous. The issue is more when matches are played in the outlying areas of Japan (rather than Tokyo, Osaka etc) where tourists are less often visiting and are areas which are more traditional, there are fears that players off field might wander around sightseeing, etc and have tattoos uncovered. For those reasons players have been asked to cover up when out and about, and this I have no issue with.

How prevalent is this?

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/international/107262687/springboks-lose-five-players-for-all-blacks-rematch-in-pretoria

Related, do we have many or any players that went offshore, that if they stayed they would be in the 22?

Maybe this dilution isn't good for the game, but OTOH the players need to cash up for their soon to be non playing future. Bit of a catch 22

LOL, that doesn't sound like being "all [for?] cultural sensitivity".

If rugby wants to avoid causing offense then that is a reasonable decision they have made. The practice of avoiding offense is usually focused on a minority or a specific group rather than everybody. That's why you're probably correct that most Japanese will not be offended or see this as a problem.
