Sam Whitelocks try has to be the try of the season. It was simply sensational.

There was a period in the second half that reminded me of the scene in The Meaning Of Life where the school masters are playing the boys. I wondered if the Toowoomba Country Woman's Institute team had turned up in place of the Reds? No wonder they are where they are on the Super XV table. Pathetic.
With Barrett and Cruden out with injury Slade's performance in the last couple of weeks must put him top of the list. Sorry DC but the apprentice has become the master.

I'm not sorry for DC. I am sorry for NZ that SH fails to see that in the last 1-2 years.

Exactly this, their defence made that try look better than it was.  How can you be stepped like that by a lock!?  Ill rephrase that, how can you be side-stepped by the lumbering Sam Whitelock

Can't believe people hating on Whitelocks try, saying it was all just bad defence.

Yes the first up tackle should have been made, but after that it was determination and a good fend. As for lumbering - he is a 2.03m and 115kg lock! Given those stats, I'd hardly call it lumbering. I think Nadolo lumbers more than Whitelock but it doesn't stop him being a bit of a machine. Also, how does the Whitelock try differ from say https://youtu.be/NqwcnakJaNI?t=32 which was all the rage last year?

IMHO it was the best individual try since ages ago, in large part because he is a lock.

Oh blair it is tongue in cheek remarks, dont take it personally! But maybe you should watch it again, and tell me that he did a lot to have those tackles fall off.  He just ran...  Also I take back my comment that he stepped, he just changed direction (made that 15 look very ordinary).

Well the commentators thought it was try of the season material, though I'll note they said so about 20 seconds after I stated it.

Lumbering, you must be joking as someone else has said he is 115KG and blitzed numbers much higher (and therefore faster one would think) than him. (I am actually responding to to another commenter)

The Reds had very average defence, but there were some very nice tries.

I have some concerns about the predictable way that Andy Ellis has been playing. Esp his kicks fro the back of a ruck etc, the box kick isn't working for the Crusaders, ball in hand IS working for them. Drummond is starting to shape up nicely.

The 'Canes were missing three of their All Blacks last night, and it showed. I'd love to know how much 'game time' the Sharks trainers got. They seemed to be on the field tending to the wounded for about half of the second half!
Commentators are talking up the Hurricanes Chiefs clash but to be honest without Cruden and Retallick I think the Chiefs will struggle against the Hurricanes with their ABs playing.
With the Highlanders stumbling overnight and the confidence that the thrashing the Crusaders gave the (wooden spoon) Reds the Crusaders are by no means out of it. I foresee, with the exception of the Blues, a logjam in the NZ conference vying mainly for the fourth, fifth and sixth places in the finals. I just hope that the local derbies don't let the foreign teams into those spots. Having to have one from each nation in the top three spots is just SANZAR politics.

P
hew! I suspect it's quite possible he has been given a timeline to taking over from Blackadder, but personally I'd like to see Scott Robertson take over.

[AngryRant]
Normally I try not to bag the refs but Vinnie Munro and Glen Jackson got it completely wrong with the last (disallowed) try of the Hurricanes /Chiefs game. A Hurricane plays the ball from the bottom of the ruck, so instead of letting the penalty advantage stand they award a scrum to the Hurricanes! Effectively stealing the game from the Chiefs. Yes I have my eyepatch on.
[EndRant]
Did the Chiefs deserve to win? Probably not. But against an almost full strength Canes team, missing Retallick, Cruden, SBW, Nanae-Williams, Lowe, etc I'm surprised they even came away with a bonus point.

Piece of magic from Nonu proved the difference in the end. And to think, despite being a Chiefs supporter, I had the Hurricanes by 20 points in the work sweep.

Interesting article in today's NZHerald (#shabbylittletabloid) by Gregor Paul on how the rolling maul is destroying the game. The only time in general play during a game of rugby you can have half your team in an offside position effectively obstructing the opposition from tackling the ball carrier. I truly believe it is all the home nations could come up with to try and stifle the open rugby bring played in the colonies.
So I have changed my opinion where the RWC will be won by a scrum penalty. I think there is just as much chance it will be from a either a penalty or penalty try defending a rolling maul.

maybe they should make it extremely hard to give 100% of the call to TMO.

eg the ref must have an opinion that must be disproved conclusively for the TMO to go the other way

the only way the ref can say "try or no try?" is if he and the touch judges saw absolutely nothing in which case a report needs to be filed after the match to explain why he couldn't get his a&^$ near the ball

I feel even more vindicated this morning where Rennie (Chiefs) is questioning that vital decision and Boyd (Hurricanes) effectively says "no comment". The Hurricane's number 17, Eves, should have received a yellow card for a professional foul which would have made the last two scrums of the match different if nothing else.
But it has basically defined the NZ conference with the Highlanders and Chiefs on equal points but with the Chiefs with a better points differential and the Hurricanes clear and virtually unable to be caught.
Lyndon Bray, the SANZAR ref boss, has already apologized to the Chiefs twice this season over incorrect refereeing that cost them matches and I expect Rennie will be getting a call from him this week as well.

Imagine how Crusaders fans felt after the grand final last year then!
