Led with a shoulder doesn't mean automatic Red. If there are mitigating circumstances that meant onfield should have been yellow, then he will have been deemed to have been punished already and no further sanction would be applied.

It's somewhat unlikely he will play Saturday but not automatic. The judiciary has reserved it's judgement which is somewhat a good thing in my opinion. If it was clear cut, he would already know how long he was out for.

I believe it somewhat likely he will be suspended for 2 games or so.

The only mitigating factor that I can see (no i'm not the judiciary) that can possibly be applied is ball carrier suddenly dropping in height. The entire thing was so quick I don't see how he can suddenly drop in height ... but hey you could be right, though technically possible, I've never seen a Red card that did not get a suspension for as long as I've watched rugby, though that doesn't mean it has never happened!

eh Sanzaar seeking further evidence ... I wonder what kind of evidence. So the video replays are inconclusive? They want to speak to the French referee? They want to talk to Michael Hooper? Look for bruising? Consult Eddie Jones? I propose  calling in a court of lawyers.

and so they have cancelled a red card before! apparently red card for contact with head cancelled because video replay shows no contact with head. https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/super-rugby/110711812/highlanders-midfielder-sio-tomkinson-has-red-card-dismissed-by-sanzaar

Clear-cut enough to be carded on field but not enough for a judiciary with literally hours devoted to looking at this one passage of play to establish if there's mitigating factors or it even warranted a red card?

Tell me more about this supposedly beneficial 'special treatment' the All Blacks get again?

I cannot recall which game, but relatively recently it was decided the ingame suspension was sufficient and the player was put on probation.

I tells ya the laws of this game is a joke. Fun to watch, but madness to rule. I think it was even worse in the past. I think they try to simplify the laws ... but ...

What isn't acceptable is another week of unpoliced cheap shots on ABs players at ruck times (particularly involving clear-outs involving the head and neck) while applying the absolute letter of the law in deciding whether the ABs had committed a dangerous foul.

The Herald has noticed this also:

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=12257778

Again, which poses more of a danger - repeated neck-rolls or contact with the head during ruck time, or an awkward shoulder contact to the head of a falling player? Well, we all know which one the officials care about more.

E: Here's how obvious it was to anyone actually watching (i.e. including the bloke who can overule the try that it lead to in the caes of a dangerous play two phases before the try is scored, but didn't):

TAB has AB's at the same raging hot favourite odds they were for game 1. So no recognition for the Wabbalies gameplay last weekend. Yes, home advantage, Eden Park, they will come back hard. BUT IMHO AUS were excellent. AB's looked dangerous when they had the ball, but AUS ran their game plan for 80 minutes, it wasnt a game of luck and run of the green. I"m picking AB's by 1-12

I would be surprised if the Wallabies can put in two performances like that in a row. It's possible, but the AB's admitted they didn't prepare well and I expect better from them. With home advantage, a fired up team and improved discipline I would think that even the Wallabies that played us last weekend would struggle. I'd like to see us give them a thrashing, but I expect to be to around about a 10 point difference.

That's how I see it. What I keep coming back to is they played well, not with luck. But how they managed that game is now no secret, so AB's will be expected to close many of those loopholes. Something in that rubbish side has clicked, so I expect them to back up. If they do play as well, AB's tend to close up, and you get a lower scoring match, as an open running game that AUS played (with surprisingly excellent and reliable skills) might be a tight match. Better to respect that, be defensive and work towards creating opportunitiies. Both defended well, as well, allowing for the 14 man second half

Id be shocked if AB's blew them away. If they did  how can you play that way this week and lose badly last week? Makes no sense

Well, the Wallabies have beaten us before and got thrashed by us the following week. Inconsistency has been their biggest issue for a long time. A few years ago we smashed them in the first half and they came back in the second and nearly won it.  I believe this world cup will have more matches won by just a few points compared with the last WC.

I see new footage has appeared of Scott Barrett and I think he's going to be in big trouble. Even with mitigating circumstances it looks bad. 6 Weeks is the worst case, but with nothing on his record, it's likely 3-4 assuming there aren't any mitigating circumstances they take into account. I feel we are heading into this world cup without the cohension I'd really like, simply due to injuries and staggered starts. It's not leaving us time for the combinations to gel.

It's the same footage from the broadcast. It was always going to be a stand-down and it should always have been a red.

The Australian media, for some reason, don't seem to be looking into their own players clear-outs around the neck, and asking why they weren't penalised or carded.

I simply cannot imagine why.

How do the Northern Hemisphere stack up against the south? ENG looked huge a couple of years back then off the boil. IRE the same, now WAL had a day or so at World No.1 then ENG beat them

The south dont look that good, RSA not great but won the RC, ARG the usual, AUS rubbish then won, AB's slipping somewhat but still the best team down here. Seems a bit of a lottery
