I think we were watching a different game. They were massively physical, accurate and the skills on display were AB's worthy. They made the gain line with relative ease and finished tries that a year ago wouldn't have happened. They deserve a lot of credit.

The AB's have something to prove and I expect them to be angry with themselves over the way they didn't front up, and as such I am hoping they will (legally) batter the Wallabies this week.

I agree. Often when the Wabbalies were dominating it was like the ABs were wearing green and gold. AUS was that good. 14 men or not they were excellent. The past tells me news that AB;s were helped by refs. Not my call but frequent news. Like Federer gets better calls, etc. Now, we lost and we blame refs? I get that, but as much as I like sport, I like sport, I favour good sport over a Kiwi win. I want a good win. Id rather have a sad loss than a ref win. This whole ref saga is all over the place. Tennis had that, but its under control. Rugger is not. They need to sort the rules, so that 9/10 its a good call. When BB moved the ball 3 meters to help his kick thats a shocker. It really is. Then SH said that happens all the time, as if to accept it, I hate that. Rules are rules. TMO should have penalised BB then ALL players will play by the rules. The Scott Barrett issue, id rather have that take 15 minutes to decide, than end up with news on it every day. I cant be arsed with sport that ruled by politics.

The trick is , it doesnt matter who got it wrong. AB's, RSA, Akaroa, play by the rules, then its fair for all. The we won't have a CWC or RWC where we discuss it for ever.

The Aussies deserve to celebrate their win. It was a good performance by them, but it was the first decent performance for a long time, and the way they are carrying on, you'd wonder if they think they already won the world cup and became world number ones.

It's entirely possible they could beat the AB's this weekend, though with anywhere near parity of possession I highly doubt it, it never ceases to amaze me the way they carry on. I have never been a fan of our press hounding Australia during their low performances, and I don't think it's better the other way. I guess they are just getting their revenge, though it does seem a bit premature on the back of what was otherwise a fairly average Rugby Championship performance by them.

I think what last Saturday does is that it gives them a big boost in confidence, going into the world cup.

I am sure many of the newer players would have doubts about whether the team is any good going into the competition (RWC), and sometimes this doubt affects how you play.

What the win does is it tells everyone in their team that if they play properly the sky is the limit, and that's very important for many of them, who have been made a laughing stock for the last 4 years.

But regardless, this Saturday is a different match and I have not been this excited about a rugby match in the last 4 years.

Which is fine, but mocking the AB's in the process is a recipe for disaster. What happens if they lose this weekend? What if we thump them either on the back of a massive performance by us or a poor one by them? It just makes them look foolish in my view.

They have been guilty of talking themselves up and then having a big fall. That does worse things for your confidence. They would have been better to keep their mouths shut and let the results speak for themselves.

Completely agree on this, but that isn't the way Rugby Australia, or their media ever react. I mean, look at their media this morning mocking the 'senior citizen' AB lineup. Absolutely no need for the crap they end up pulling after managing a solid performance.

Australia. Media. Sledging. Thats what they do. The coach and team were very measured after the game.

Assuming this is the reason?  An Australian newspaper with a short, selective memory has mocked Steve Hansen's world champions as the "Old Blacks" ahead of Saturday's Bledisloe Cup title decider with the Wallabies.

The loss was a great thing for rugby in this part of the world. Aussie rugby is in a sad state due to several things and this win has reinvigorated the game over the ditch.

NZ needs a strong Wallaby side to ensure complacency doesnt cause rot.

However, I still want that Bled Cup to remain NZ's cup.

If we lose the Bled imagine the sledging that will go on and on.

But it needs to happen on merit not by some crazy controversy.

I agree. I don't think the big three down under match the past. There is probably something in it with some of our older players. If AUS have what it takes and are on the up, and if RSA is on the up, and NZ will have to regroup as its now tougher to win, that can only help all three. We will have to dig deep, and the other two have more that a starters chance of a win. Its good for southern hemisphere rugger

The thing is, NZ media have been every bit as bad in recent times. I recall the clown incident. In my view someone should have lost their job. I am not a Michael Cheika fan particularly, and I do find his outbursts and whining a bit over the top, however, at the base of all of that is a guy doing his best, who cares deeply about the results. Characterizing him as a clown, and Steve Hansens comments recently about Mickey Mouse, are really poor form. We are good enough to beat them without that stuff. At the end of the day, his kids will eventually see that. I would be horrified if someone said that about me, but even worse if my kids saw it, or got teased about it at school.

I am saying, in short that the media on both sides of the Tasman need to grow up and so should the teams themselves.

I will qualify my statements to come back round to the original comments I made that Aussie don't help themselves by constantly talking themselves up. They didn't this time and then won, which is different to talking themselves up and then getting a thrashing. If you do that enough times, people start to form an opinion. I still think regardless of this, more respect needs to be afforded. It's easy to trod on people, it doesn't make you better.

Mostly the media this time, but I haven't really been watching that stuff that closely. I only noticed the media stuff as it was on the front page of the news sites I visit. It will be interesting what is said at the pre game press conferences.
