SUPREMELY Confident

How did NZ only concede 3 points of 20+ mins of SA dominating territory and amazing Blitz defense which really had NZ going backward every time they got the ball. I was a bit just Confident for 20mins lol.

I dont think we put enough clinical offensive pressure on them in the second half, but with their Blitz D still there I guess hard to make gaps. I thought the first half why are we not chipping over the top or booting to our wing, then we did.

Only REAL blunder for me was not having someone behind the break down for SA's try with no one in front of him. That was like I was watching an obstruction in League but nope, just lack of concentration by the AB's. Take that away and the game wasnt even close.

So we have SA's measure, a 2nd game in the final (which I think may well occur) and I think we would go even better.

the numbers on the scoreboard did not tell the whole picture.

the entire SA team were physically broken by the 70th minute. in the last 10 mins they were on crutches and should have been in hospital and not on the field.

my bones hurt just thinking about it.

Aerial shot told the story on that one - not sure who 16 was but I'm fairly sure they had just come on and they were clearly out. To be out of position on a scrambling defensive move shouldn't happen but isn't unheard of when you've just subbed on.

Also, the referees' reluctance to give cards to teams is going to have consequences at some point.

There have now been three, agruably four clearly cardable offenses that have not been given so far in the tournament. The IRB has a bit of a problem here.

Garces consulted the TMO on the non-yellow in front of the posts. We were not privvy to the conversation but have to assume there was a technical reason it wasn't considered foul play preventing a certain try.
Of more concern to me was the number of plays where players were taken out off the ball, head high tackles and one of the SA intercepts where the player started so far offside he may as well have been in the AB's backline. But compared to some of Garces' howlers in the past, he had an okay game.
I agree most of the Springboks were gone with 10 minutes left on the clock
I'd like to know what happened with Cane's substitution. In the end we got the result and I'm glad he didn't resume because another head knock in the second half may have ended his tournament. I think the Read, Savea and Cane combo is one of the most important to the AB's strategy.

Some TMOs don't even know the definition of a forward pass. So who knows.

Same thing as the Lions match. After discussing with the TMO it became 'just a penalty' even though the location and timing of the offense meant if it was a penalty, it had to be a professional foul and a card.

Much like the offside in the Lions game that became a scrum, even though for it to have been a scrum, the penalty offense would have to have taken place.

TMOs interjecting to stop a player being sanctioned for an on-field professional foul but still uphold the initial penalty is a screamingly huge issue that the IRB should be addressing immediately.

But this has been going on for years and probably won't be addressed until it costs a home union team a high profile win.

I see the Fijians have asked for Hodge's try saving shoulder charge that concussed their flanker to be reviewed. No arms and contact to the head, it was in every way worse than Barrett's red card in Perth.

Nah, Taylor (16) made the tackle and was still getting up when Du Toit picked up the ball.

It looked like a communication screw up between Aaron Smith, Scott Barrett (who wrapped rather than taking up position behind the ruck) and Nepotism Laulala who was the man on the blind side of the ruck.

I would so love to have seen Argies come back to blow up the French. So close.

Well Fijians lost by a fair bit which will see Aus through, even if they fail to beat the other 2 good teams. But cant see them getting far. Id like to play them again and humiliate them in front of the world 46-0, improve on the last game etc :-)

Wayne Barnes just yellow carded an Irish player in very similar circumstances to the one Garces didn’t. No hesitation, off you go. Not that it will affect the outcome as Scotland have managed to butcher every chance they have engineered in the match. Ireland have converted their chances.

IMO it was much less a pro foul too than the ABs game. But to Garces defense he did want to send the player off, he went looking for him, but the video ref instructed it wasnt a pro foul, he asked him if he was sure. Because originally he asked him for the players number, video ref came back penalty.

They better throw the book at the aussie shoulder charge to the head. The Barrett one was simply Barretts arm getting trapped, this one there wasnt even an attempt to use an arm, it was an SBW special (back when it was legal in league and SBW was known for being the hardest tackler).

 video ref came back penalty.

That's the problem. In that run of play, in that location on the field, a penalty is a professional foul. Those are the factors which make it a cynical professional foul.

So either it was a penalty or it wasn't. But it can't be a penalty and not a professional foul when you're deliberately committing an offense to stop/slow down a breakaway.

Not disagreeing but Garces is relying on his video ref to confirm this which he should do as a yellow card in a big match is no small deal and he wasnt that close initially. He wanted to send the player, i think if his on fields had confirmed the player number he was gone, but the video ref decided it didnt warrant a yellow which through Garces a curve ball. He should have over turned it as on field ref and trusted his initial gut instinct though and just asked for the number again.
