Was really looking forward to this weekends games :(

Me too. Gutting :(

Lets hope Scotland v Japan go ahead, that's the only one that really has a chance to change the top 8.

Particularly since the ABs game was at a reasonable time. We had a group of friends coming over to watch it on the big screen and have dinner. Grrr.

Seems a shame when the prediction of the path of these type of storms is an inexact science. Surely closer to game day would be better. Prepare people for the possibility, but confirm closer to kickoff.

I wonder when someone will blame Spark for the typhoon! ;-/

I think the more notice they give of the cancelation the better it is for the team and the fans traveling, you wouldn't want people traveling into the path of the to hoping the game will go ahead. Pretty sure they looked at the possible outcomes of each game and the ones that were not really going to affect the outcome of the pool they cancelled. That's why they are delaying the Japan v Scotland game until game day.

I hope their forecasters are better than in NZ. Everytime there's warning of expected storm in AKL - NOTHING shows up :)

Very inexact. Direction, strength, speed, all very inexact. Instead if cancelling, tell us that they are likely to be cancelled, and wait. If it likely is mainly south it will weaken quickly, leaving the north as options. As mentioned a few days ago when it first broke. If this happened again, then we cancel the 1/4's and use countbacks? I think last year one started up behind another somewhere.

This isn't a Rugby World Cup issue it's a civil defense issue. From what I read most of the public transport etc in Tokyo will not be running, flights are cancelked and they are advising everyone to stay home.

They cant cancel these, they arent dead rubbers, and they affect semis for some

Straight up. The other games that have no meaning, well so be it. But they cant cancel a game when the team that is the top scorer in the pool should be given the chance to win and get the extra point and hope silly Ireland miss out. BOOOOOOO.

I get its a serious issue, but the game has to be played before the semis start as does the Ireland game. If the Semis are going to be pushed out then push out these two games as they affect who is playing semis.

The AB's would play through a typhoon against any team and still win by 20. :-)

Ok, I wasnt aware that everything has already been decided to be cancelled in advance. As they dont know where it will hit, whether it will remain at sea or head inland. news had mentioned northern locations which are a good way from the south.

So, it seemed reasonable to aim for alternate northern locations, and setyp for that, and the same telecast times. On the assumption that its playable they can head there now, while its 900km away. The weather in Japan is normal right now, and will remains so for another day. If it still failed thats fine, if it was very playable, the event, which is more international than national can continue.

Yep. We dont need to move everything and all the fans. The teams and whatever camera work we can. Doesn't need spectators.

No, if there was a typhoon, then its a draw. We do a countback. Not on 4's or wherever the CWC was, but some other metric and ENG wins.... :-)  Dont laugh, its typhoon season, there will be others

ENG v FRA cancelled.

If that happens and Argies get to play their game, France will be knocked out. So again I think this will just be rescheduled.

The POMS will be knocked out immediately, and then once all is done claim they won the Rugby World Cup on count back of ping pong kicks.

Flappn flap wits. Seriously, how hollow would it feel once you realise you didnt win and it was simply a stupid rule that should have been modified and you are running around the pitch like you had won the damn thing. Stokes is a kiwi too, I hope he feels shame the turn coat.

If it was a draw and Argies game is played, Argies could still get through.

I don't recall any games being cancelled due to bad weather under Sky's watch!

(and yes, before all everyone get themselves in a frenzy, of course, I am joking! :))

I think if the rest of the games were draws, NZ would lose on points differential because we didn't play Italy. With that game under our belt it would be a win to us I think.

Yes. There is no way they should use points diferential, but that would be the obvious go to metric. With so many minnows, a game where you rested players and only won by 60, and a game like RSA where PD was very low, would hurt. Of course its typhoon season, you could hammer a game to a game and a half to get PD onside, mitigate that risk.

Honestly, some of your comments are starting to sound more than a little kooky!

I don't think England would give one toss about how they won, I didn't see them offering to give back the CWC, and for the record, if we win by some weird method, I might think it's naff, but to anyone who asks, I will still say we won the world cup.

I feel bad for this guy.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=12275414

"In the chaos of Typhoon Hagibis, spare a thought for Italy. Ghiraldini was set for a 20min farewell cameo against NZ in the final rugby match of his 15yr career," Simon tweeted.

"He spent months rehabbing and broke down in tears when news of cancellation broke in training. Sombre mood in Toyota."

105 Tests and won't even get to play his last ever game for Italy.

Whatever my disappointment at not getting to WATCH the AB's play, it's not even on the same planet as this guys disappointment.

I loved Hansen casting shade at Trump in the press conference today. He's such a curmudgeon and doesn't care anymore.
