It’s 12 years since the ABs were anything but winners in a Rugby World Cup. I do hope that in those intervening years supporters have matured enough so if the ABs are bested in the the quarters, semis or final, they can accept that that is sport. It will be great if all the games in the knockout rounds are decided by a 15 vs 15 contest without undue influence by the officials, but I doubt that will be the case.

Most will accept it, wont stop us being pretty damn miserable if we lose though.

Based on how most responded to the Cricket loss, it could go either way, though, ultimately both 2007 and the CWC were "unfair" in their own way.

Well if there is a blatant forward pass that loses us the game in the final minutes, I'm sure there will be plenty of sour grapes.

Still is. But it was only 2 metres forward.......  Slightly past marginal IMHO though. Can't recall if they had TMO's then, would a TMO now blow the whistle for that, are they allowed to?

Previously TMO's could only respond to a question from the referee. If the question wasn't asked, then they couldn't say anything. Failry sre this was the rule back in 2007.

We then went to the next phase where the TMO can advise on foul play without waiting for the ref to ask the question.

In this WC its obvious the TMO has been given full licence to run the show, with Ben Skeen being the worst of them. In one game (cant recall who, but it was a tier 1 vs tier 2) the ref awarded the try to the tier 2 team and then Ben jumped straight in and said one of their players was offside so cancel the try. It was ludicrous as replays were inconclusive but the ref went with the TMO's recommendation.

Wayne Barnes has impressed me, as a couple of times he's just told the TMO 'nothing there, lets move on' and has shut them down, even when the TMO has gone 'lets have one more look'. Nah.

I saw that game, agreed he was excellent in managing it.

The other english referee did a similar thing too. There was a red card in his game that I thought was pretty borderline, but the rest of that game he managed pretty well.

Everything managed to perfection, just a dodgy red card? I like your assessment,I'm very happy for your underlings :)

I think it's entirely reasonable to be salty as hell if we lose under those circumstances.

I'd rather lose the world cup and be the number one team the rest of the time, dominant and reverered, than win 1 tournament and struggle in between. It's not even close :)

GV27:

Coles is a penalty machine and worth at least ten minutes in the bin to the Irish as soon as he comes on. If Hansen is smart, that will be after the 70th minute.

3 penalties this year for the all blacks and 2 yellow cards since 2014. A huge one more penalty than Taylor.

He's a pretty crappy penalty machine.

I would hope so but I doubt it. There tends to be an over estimation of our ability coupled with arrogance towards the other teams and discounting of their ability. The reality is that the Irish are a very very good team. They play differently to us but they are very good at what they do.

If they play at their best they have a very good chance of beating the All Blacks even if we play very well. If we lose this will be painted as being due to Keiran Reads lack of leadership or Ian Foster stabbing puppies or some other nonsense. The opposition will be ignored and it will be all about our failures.

New Zealand really needs to grow up with this stuff.

This was priceless from Matt Toomua. It's a nice reminder that it's only a game and many of the players are good blokes.
