that can happen to any team when you have a ref and a TMO - every team is at risk

Experiencing what it's like to be an Australian fan, not often I want them to win.

England played the game pretty much perfectly. They played with 14 defenders in the line for most of the game and didn't contest the ruck mych. Australia, as usual, played their own game without really game planning for how to beat the opposition. England just sat back and picked off the runners. The chip was on but very rarely used

Most pleasingly there wasn't any real referee involvement. Garces let the scrums descend into a farce but other than that the game flowed really quite well. He did let England kill pretty much every ruck in their own 22, it was pretty cynical and well done.

Cheikas comments post match were very gracious and he was nearly in tears. He's clearly not everyones cup of tea but he's given a lot to Australian rugby and taken them through an exceptional world cup in 2015.

He's had to preside over an incredibly difficult period in Australian rugby, with the Folau nonsense as well as the financial problems in the ARU. He deserves recognition for his service to the game, at a cost to his very successful business.

I'll miss shots if him during games. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is very entertaining

England killing ruck? The aussies were so slow and nowhere to be seen most of the time. Can't blame the referee for not penalizing England when there were no Aussies contesting anything.

In fact the game was like playing in slow motion

Take another look anytime Australia got into the 22. Both of Slade's penalties were tremendously cynical.

Yup, was plenty missed too, players clearly off their feet with their hands all over the ball.

Have the refs been told to go easy on high tackles? In the round robins some of these high shots would have been reviewed, but now its just a straight penalty and on with the game. Hope it's like this going forward.

Best performance by the ABs for some time. Bring on England!

Just goes to show it's key to peak at the right time. And to do that well it really needs insight and skill from the coach and management.

To be fair I thought most of the tackles and contact was pretty fair compared to the pool games.

ABs just too good.

The All Blacks forwards went out and broke Ireland's pack. Smith tries were the result of domination up front.

I haven't seen Reid, Moody or Whitelock run with the ball like that for some years.

Onto England!

I though english forwards were good, but oh my lord ABs forwards arrived from another planet pumped to demolish anyone in front of them.

Well I saw two styles of dominance last night. The ones that lost had no chance as predicted.

England use big people to slow the ball down and were happy for the toothless Aussies (all tournament) to come at them.

ABs use speed and power to destroy with attacking footy.

Not sure what next week will bring. Either a steamroll or a good contest.

I’m glad Nigel Owens was the ref, but I’m not sure what was going on with the yellow card. Todd was clearly behind the goal line until the ball was picked up, he stopped the attacker’s progress and ended up on the ground facing away from the tackled player wedged against the goalpost. At the time the attacker had himself turned away from the goal line to present the ball for the next phase. Perhaps Owens had just got fed up with repeated infringements in the red zone, so Todd copped it. I had to smile when the Irish rushed the conversion. I wasn’t sure if it was to get on with the game or to solidify the try. Either way, my understanding is a penalty try doesn’t need to be converted.

Its hard to single out any particular player for the ABs, they all played their part, but I think Read had his best game in a long time.
