that can happen to any team when you have a ref and a TMO - every team is at risk
Handle9: England played the game pretty much perfectly. They played with 14 defenders in the line for most of the game and didn't contest the ruck mych. Australia, as usual, played their own game without really game planning for how to beat the opposition. England just sat back and picked off the runners. The chip was on but very rarely used
Most pleasingly there wasn't any real referee involvement. Garces let the scrums descend into a farce but other than that the game flowed really quite well. He did let England kill pretty much every ruck in their own 22, it was pretty cynical and well done.
England killing ruck? The aussies were so slow and nowhere to be seen most of the time. Can't blame the referee for not penalizing England when there were no Aussies contesting anything.
In fact the game was like playing in slow motion
Handle9: Take another look anytime Australia got into the 22. Both of Slade's penalties were tremendously cynical.

heavenlywild: Best performance by the ABs for some time. Bring on England!
Just goes to show it's key to peak at the right time. And to do that well it really needs insight and skill from the coach and management.
I though english forwards were good, but oh my lord ABs forwards arrived from another planet pumped to demolish anyone in front of them.

I’m glad Nigel Owens was the ref, but I’m not sure what was going on with the yellow card. Todd was clearly behind the goal line until the ball was picked up, he stopped the attacker’s progress and ended up on the ground facing away from the tackled player wedged against the goalpost. At the time the attacker had himself turned away from the goal line to present the ball for the next phase. Perhaps Owens had just got fed up with repeated infringements in the red zone, so Todd copped it. I had to smile when the Irish rushed the conversion. I wasn’t sure if it was to get on with the game or to solidify the try. Either way, my understanding is a penalty try doesn’t need to be converted.
Its hard to single out any particular player for the ABs, they all played their part, but I think Read had his best game in a long time.
