Handle9:

Gregor Paul wrote a good piece in the Herald where he said that candidates like Gatland, Joseph and Rennie were far more likely to be available if the process had been run at the start of the year. It would have also disconnected the process from the World Cup results which objectively may have been a good thing.

We have still ended up with the same final two and best options we were always going to end up.

It's your opinion they are the two best options. I don't agree and given that we won't be involved in interviews it is all uninformed anyway.

Having more options is always better than less.

Agreed. I would say Joseph is the major loss at this point from the contenders, and Gatland hasn't coached Super Rugby for over a decade so I'm not too cut up about him being out of the running. But as you say, pure speculation.

Some of the stories related to this seem a bit crazy. People talking about a lack of interest blah blah. Everyone knew Hansen was done after this world cup, it's been no secret since his last extension.

People can't say the timing didn't allow them to apply, because they could have expressed interest as early as 12 months ago or more.

I am not sure who will end up in the hot seat, but whomever it is, has quite a challenge in front of them. I think Rennie may be an OK coach, maybe even good, but I suspect he doesn't play well with others, and you saw how a break down between cxo suite and coaching staff in Australia has worked out. You need a good working relationship. SH and Steve Tew were clearly mostly on the same hymm sheet, which was helped by the fact the AB's had strong results under his tenure. I suspect our results over the next couple of years could be reasonably mixed. It's been reported and discussed that there is less interest in Rugby at the lower levels, less numbers playing in schools etc.. This won't help.

We, of course, do still have a fair number world-class players, but I feel a good portion of our leadership backbone are gone and we don't have quite have the same level as we did post 2015.

If Ian Foster goes, I think we will be losing SO much IP, to me it's probably the biggest issue with not making him coach.

Rennie is an ok coach. Lol.

What is with the Rennie shade? He is a significantly more successful head coach than Foster and has done it in New Zealand and overseas.

That's very unfortunate. Not many people come back from major surgery like that, as good as they were before.

On another note,I see there is talk of Plumtree aligning with Foster, that will help his case to NZRU considerably I expect.

I see Mark (lack of) Reason is having a world-class meltdown over the Crusaders keeping their name. I guess he has to write something to justify his pay check :)

I am glad they kept the name, though the new logo is a big naff. They are in for a rough first 12 months once they start publishing that logo around the place and people get to drawing an outline around it.

Hard to believe no-one saw it, and what's with Black being on top. They have always been Red and Black.

Oh well. They kept the name, so I am reasonably happy.

I like the new Logo, the stylised Koru looks great. A pity they didn't come up with a new name that has links to their region.

They have dropped Canterbury from their name so there is no connection now

Well, I guess that makes them the same as the other franchises then :)

Not one mention of Wellington, Otago, Waikato, or Auckland on the Websites front pages for any NZ franchise, except for the address in some cases.

Regardless, I don't think anyone is going to forget where they are from.

The new logo is about as lame as the convoluted BS spouted by the franchise about their "crusade". It's corporate double speak trying to appease a fairly reactionary fan base without offending anyone.

As is usual in these situations it does neither but the new logo will bring me endless amusement.

@Handle9 why would their Tohu bring you endless amusement?  It represent the shape of their region from the Alps to the sea.

I had to smile when I saw a picture of Richie McCaw with Santa, and someone had posted under it..

"Oh that's nice, Santa got his picture taken with Richie McCaw".

:)

It may represent that, but it is also decidedly phallic.
