Glad the shepherding/dummy running was brought up. My wife kept on yelling about it all game! LIke others, wondering how it is legal. But if they keep getting away with it, they'll keep doing it.

I mentioned his try :) I could have gone on about it all night long. I have watched a lot of Rugby in my life, and that was one of the most unbelievable things I've seen :)

It was incredible, he's a special player. It was an amazing game.

Worst part about the result? Me predicting a Hurricanes win and not putting any money on it :(

You need some luck in these situations, but you also need a stupid amount of skill, speed, mental and physical agility to be able to pull it off even with all the luck in the world.

My son got up the following morning to watch that again.

Agreed, it was a spectacle of the game, and I don't begrudge the win to the 'canes despite them snapping our long proud record at home. I do think whomever the Crusaders face next are in for trouble though, they don't really like losing much :)

The Blues Chiefs game was also very good to watch. I was surprised that the referee didn't even consider checking for grounding despite the Chiefs remonstrations about it. It takes a minute to check and would have removed any doubt from the result. I mean, it's in the record books now, but I felt for them as I thought it would have been quite hard to stop him from there.

The look of anguish from the players at the end was quite heartbreaking.

I don't prefer to attend games in person, as I like the commentary etc, but both my kids LOVE live games, and whilst my Son would be cheering the Blues, and me the Crusaders our last outing, right before lockdown was memorable. It's just very chilly those evening games in the middle of winter.

Beauden Barrett had a cry on the radio the other day about being booed at the cake tin.

I’m 50/50 on booing at matches. On one hand I don’t like it, particularly when a player is taking a kick for example. On the other hand, its part of home field advantage. I thought about The Last Dance and the footage of the Utah fans vitriol towards the Bulls, it really does make people booing at a rugby match look like tiddly winks.

Beauden left the Canes, in his prime, for our arch enemy, what does he expect, a heroes welcome? I’m sure he’ll be cheered when he’s in a black jersey. Maybe he’s trying to deflect from his own performances, which haven’t been flash. Or he was upset being upstaged by his little brother. Or he's salty that Mo'unga has unseated him as our #1 10...

I feel very strongly the opposite. Booing is the worst part of fan culture in NZ (with heavy drinking and boorish behaviour as a close second). Perhaps one lot of booing right at the start, for a bit of "fun", I don't think he would have minded, but it went on and on. It was retarded and made me embarrassed to be a NZ Rugby fan. The way we do it to players like Quade Cooper YEARS after his infringement makes my skin crawl and I am none too quiet about it, if people are doing it around me.

Compare it to how he was treated by the Canes when they came to Auckland, giving him some good-natured ribbing, but no hard feelings.

BB moved because the rest of his life was in Auckland and it wouldn't make sense for him to commute week in and out. He will almost certainly be starting a family soon, it's hardly fair to expect his partner to pick up the bulk of the slack, even beyond what partners do anyway.

He would not have been at his best for the canes travelling the way he would have needed to, and to be fair the Blues need a leg up.

No, they are the best team because of team culture and player selection.

I used to say (tongue in cheek) that I loved when Ritchie McCaw cheated for the All Blacks and hated when he cheated for the Crusaders!

The worst super teams for running interference lines are the South Africans, but the Crusaders are definitely the most ‘aggressive’ of the NZ teams in using the tactic. As I previously said, if it was outside the rules it would get penalised more. I can’t believe the officials aren’t aware of it. Just like the clean up of the breakdown, it would require a concerted mind shift by officials.

That would be really unfortunate. Goes to show how important SA (well to me at least) is in the NZ Rugby equation that I feel it would be the biggest loss.

Totally understandable to have those conditions on coming down here. I guess if they got 4 there and could play 2 down here against provincial teams perhaps?

The usual soul-searching that never seems to happen when the Blues are on the receiving end of a perplexing last-minute call that goes against them. Quite frankly NZR owes them at least one on their favour.

There were also a lot of forward passes from the Chiefs in some of their more expansive moments that went unchecked compared to Barrett throwing a line-ball that 'went' forward but not out of the hands, so the cookie crumbles both ways in terms of things that got missed in that game.

Interesting, J Savea to return to the canes as Injury cover. Would be awesome to see a redemption story come out of it. He had a chance to become the best ever winger for NZ in my opinion then he fell off a cliff.

Laumape gone for the season looks like. That's pretty unfortunate.

It comes back to what I said when SRA was announced, 10 weeks of local derbies would make Ian Fosters "new look" AB's be a case of last man standing...

I actually meant to mention the number of missed forward passes actually, I thought I had already but see I didn't actually end up adding it. Games are made up of moments, but it's hard to watch the Chiefs lose 7 in a row, even if I am not a fan.

The cynic in me thinks that BB moved for purely financial reasons. If family life in Auckland was that important how do we explain his planned move to Japan for a year.

Nothing against him - rugby players have a limited shelf life so need to maximise their earning power. Just be honest about it.

For the second week in a row the referee’s boss has admitted a mistake that cost the Chiefs the match (commenting that the final penalty was incorrectly awarded). The Blues player had effectively committed a foul that prevented the try being scored and did not have rights to the ball.

Ironically by not going to the TMO against the Blues this week after going to the TMO last week and reviewing too many phases back (also admitted after the fact).

The try that Alaimalo scored appeared to have a pass that was a best ‘flat’ but Clark dived on him after the try was scored, badly injuring him, and that should have been revisited.

But the Chiefs summed up their season by taking a quick tap instead of a scrum 5m from the line when the Blues had a back in the bin. Just dumb play.

If they had scored off that quick tap, it would have been hailed as unheralded bravery ala Aaron Smith against England a few years back. I didn't feel it was the right choice at the time, the defensive line was set, but their scrum had been under pressure and giving away a penalty, people would have been saying the quick tap was the better option. Personally, I'd have opted for the lineout :)
