For the second week in a row the referee’s boss has admitted a mistake that cost the Chiefs the match (commenting that the final penalty was incorrectly awarded). The Blues player had effectively committed a foul that prevented the try being scored and did not have rights to the ball.

Ironically by not going to the TMO against the Blues this week after going to the TMO last week and reviewing too many phases back (also admitted after the fact).

The try that Alaimalo scored appeared to have a pass that was a best ‘flat’ but Clark dived on him after the try was scored, badly injuring him, and that should have been revisited.

But the Chiefs summed up their season by taking a quick tap instead of a scrum 5m from the line when the Blues had a back in the bin. Just dumb play.

You tend to make your own luck a bit. The Blues - Crusaders game had 4-5 similar penalties not awarded to the Blues as the Crusaders were the dominant pack. It sucks when you're the team getting screwed though.

The Clark tackle looked at worst clumsy. It's fairly normal to see a player late tackle a try scorer but because he was injured it becomes an issue. To go back they would need to do that for all latish tackles on a try scorer.

BB moved because the rest of his life was in Auckland and it wouldn't make sense for him to commute week in and out. He will almost certainly be starting a family soon, it's hardly fair to expect his partner to pick up the bulk of the slack, even beyond what partners do anyway.

He would not have been at his best for the canes travelling the way he would have needed to, and to be fair the Blues need a leg up.

The cynic in me thinks that BB moved for purely financial reasons.  If family life in Auckland was that important how do we explain his planned move to Japan for a year.

Nothing against him - rugby players have a limited shelf life so need to maximise their earning power. Just be honest about it.

His wife is from Auckland and wanted to be closer to family.

It's not like Barrett is from Wellington anyway.

If they had scored off that quick tap, it would have been hailed as unheralded bravery ala Aaron Smith against England a few years back. I didn't feel it was the right choice at the time, the defensive line was set, but their scrum had been under pressure and giving away a penalty, people would have been saying the quick tap was the better option. Personally, I'd have opted for the lineout :)

The tap was midfield. It would have been somewhat risky to kick for the corner, especially with the terrible touch finders that the Chiefs had kicked during the game. If they felt their scrum was that bad a tap was probably their only option.

It wasn't a quick tap though, more like the old free kick taps that used to happen.

Wow, 15+ Years of consistently making the top 4 and all because they were cheating! Wow, thanks for cracking the code! It IS kinda surprising in all that time the referees couldn't work it out though...

/me smdh

No, they are the best team because of team culture and player selection.

I used to say (tongue in cheek) that I loved when Ritchie McCaw cheated for the All Blacks and hated when he cheated for the Crusaders!

The worst super teams for running interference lines are the South Africans, but the Crusaders are definitely the most ‘aggressive’ of the NZ teams in using the tactic. As I previously said, if it was outside the rules it would get penalised more. I can’t believe the officials aren’t aware of it. Just like the clean up of the breakdown, it would require a concerted mind shift by officials.

It's only cheating if you get caught. It's almost impossible to play rugby without cheating, the rules are too complex for that.

If other teams are too stupid or incompetent to cheat effectively then that is their problem.

Plenty of crap calls have gone against the Blues over the years with impressive silence from the referees. Funny how when the shoe is on the other foot for once, the refs can't fall over themselves fast enough to apologise for it.

The 8 team tournament announced for November looks awesome. The Six Nations teams plus Japan and Fiji will make for great football and if they can have crowds will be a brilliant spectacle.

I feel very strongly the opposite. Booing is the worst part of fan culture in NZ  (with heavy drinking and boorish behaviour as a close second). Perhaps one lot of booing right at the start, for a bit of "fun", I don't think he would have minded, but it went on and on. It was retarded and made me embarrassed to be a NZ Rugby fan. The way we do it to players like Quade Cooper YEARS after his infringement makes my skin crawl and I am none too quiet about it, if people are doing it around me.

I do tend to agree on booing, which is pretty unsophisticated behavior. Maybe a chant of some sort would be better?

Bueaden Barret

He's a maggot

He left us for the Blues

Now he's gona lose!

Even though he's not from Wellington, he's a Hurricane in the same way Roy Keane is a red devil despite not being from Manchester (or England). So he deserves to get shi* from the fans :)

/me shrugs, I can't stop you doing it, but I think it's pretty dumb. If you went from one *workplace* to another, if every time your prior workmates/clients saw you, they booed you, I can't imagine you'd enjoy that.

Personally, I'd prefer Rugby to be something positive and fun.

Sky NZ confirmed they will have it, if it goes ahead.

Actually, they have been pretty consistent in putting their hand up post-match in this comp if they make a mistake.

Only time will tell if the Blues are being treated differently now.

Please, no, not either!

I laughed and I do think that he has been a bit precious about being pilloried. But I'm a Hurricanes fan who wants to remember Beauden Barret's sublime skills rather than another song about a toxic relationship breakup.

Maybe I'm more accepting of him because I haven't felt any pain following his move to the Blues.

^ I think that most people appreciate his service.  That doesnt mean when he plays for another team we wont put a little added pressure on him!  Its all in good fun, his winging about it on the radio will only empower people to want to do it more

Booing for a couple of minutes at the start, I think most people would have accepted that. It would have been done in good spirit.

It went on the majority of the game, at that point, it's just stupidity.

Chiefs v Crusaders, feeling slightly anxious now. The Chiefs have been a bogey team for the Crusaders in years past, and obviously they beat us earlier in the year, and to be honest, with the exception of what might consider miracle points last meeting in CHCH, with home advantage it wasn't really that far apart. With the Chiefs having home advantage and being so desperate for a win.... It will be interesting to see if they revert to the niggle they have used to get under the Crusaders skin in the past.

It might be nice to see Moody get some of his own back
