I didn’t get to see the match live due work commitments, but watched it this morning. Was able to enjoy it already knowing the score.
Reiko Ioane has been show-boating like that when scoring tries for a long time. This time he was caught out. I won’t be surprised if he is dropped for the next game.
Jordy Barrett is a Fullback, not a Winger. Can’t quite understand why he was the kicker instead of Mo’unga or McKenzie (except at longer range). Unless, of course, that the Cake Tin is his home ground. He is a worthy addition to the team, but suffers when the AB’s strategy is to have two pivots, Mo’unga/Barrett, or as per yesterday Mo’unga/McKenzie. He may have a greater impact off the bench.
I hope Caleb Clarke gets a start next week and not at the expense of Bridge, who had a solid game with things not flowing his way.
I bet Mo’unga is feeling it today. He was the target of some massive hits, some of which were quite ‘late’.
It was an entertaining game and certainly one where millimetres mattered. Whether it was the McKenzie strip that led to the Wallaby’s try, the foot in touch that was missed, the gap between Ioane’s finger and the ball over the try line, or the game winning penalty hitting the post it was all about those tiny moments.
In the end Wellington’s weather was the winner on the day.....
