I'd at least compare a quick tap with a quick throw in. And if a team dicks around in getting to a regular lineout or forming up then it's a free kick - or a numbers situation although I don't know if that's a thing anymore. Anyway, you can't have a regular long-form lineout if the other team is still walking up to it.

For a lineout the defending team can have less numbers, just not more like it has always been. You only need two players from each team to form a lineout, so if the team throwing in is ready and the defending team dawdles in, as soon as two players reach the lineout the ball can be thrown in. You dont' need to wait for the other team to be ready.

In higher level rugby it is generally the throwing in team that takes their time getting to the lineout, however at 1st15/college it is quite common for the team throwing in to be ready first and throwing in while the defending team is still joining the lineout.

A scrum is the only play where you have to wait for each team to be ready.

Huge second half from the Lions to come back from 9 points down at half time. The Lions were totally dominant in the second half, they put South Africa under huge amounts of pressure and won a ton of penalties.

Alun Wyn-Jones is a machine. A month from a dislocated shoulder he played 80 minutes and was top tackler. One of the true greats of the game.

The Sevens has been most entertaining. NZ played incredibly well to get to the Semis after a scare with Australia. They showed some excellent composure.

If you didn't see the Argentina v South Africa Quarter Final, find it and watch it, it's an incredible 15 minutes of sport.

Reflecting on the Lions SA Game 1. There was some impressive physicality on display, really incredible, but overall, I didn't really enjoy it. It was boring. Parts of it were enjoyable and it was a real arm wrestle, but I really hope this isn't where rugby is heading.

My gut feeling is that we have the potential to match that physicality, but not consistently. I guess we won't really know for a bit longer yet this year.

Fingers crossed for the NZ All Black 7s against Fiji tonight for the Gold Medal. (Edit: 9pm NZ time)

Kind of a shame there isn’t a medal (tin possibly?) for fourth place. But I guess there is something to play for between GB and Argentina. Bronze or nothing.

I didn't realize it was tonight! They have already done much better than last Olympics. I hope they win Gold, but I will be super happy if they get Silver.

Sadly, it felt a little inevitable. Fiji just that little bit too big and too strong, and with some luck thrown in, was going to take it out

Somewhat of some redemption after Rio, and confirmation that the selection of veterans wasn't a mistake.

7's is just so brutal. One slight handling error, or missed tackle or bounce of the ball and you are heroes to zeroes.

Congrats to All Blacks Seven on a great campaign, still plenty of reason to celebrate.

Fiji deservedly win the Olympic Gold. They simply out-muscled and outplayed the AB7s. Little bit of nerves (understandably) on the part of the NZers and a little luck for the Fijians, but really the result wasn’t in doubt.

Sigh. Like a totally different NZ team in the final to the one that played in the Semis.

Handling errors in goal, the offloands were gone, etc.

One or two critical mistakes avoided and we would have been in with a shot.

For me, the only other disappointing aspect of the game (apart from us not winning) was the Fijian tactic of running into the back of a defender and then falling on the ground in an attempt to milk a penalty. Not to the level of football but still not in the spirit of the game, and thankfully the ref didn’t fall for it. It seems to be happening in the 15s game as well.

Good on Fiji for winning

But question needs to be why is 7s in the Olympics. It is not a global sport and it is not even the real version of the game. Just like 3 on 3 basketball isn't real Basketball.

Maybe next time they could add 5 a side football as well.

Don't get me started. Squash was one of the highest-ranked watched sports in the CWG yet repeatedly gets overlooked, yet somehow, break dancing is a thing.

I like 7's at the Olympics though.

That has been two ropey games by the Black Fern 7s. Kind of reminds me of the men in Rio. I hope they sort their act out by tomorrow.
