Jas777:

Good on Fiji for winning

But question needs to be why is 7s in the Olympics. It is not a global sport and it is not even the real version of the game. Just like 3 on 3 basketball isn't real Basketball.

Maybe next time they could add 5 a side football as well.

you should have seen skateboarding. 13yo olympic gold medalist. next time there'll be candy crush.

First time posting in the rugby thread.

Disclaimer: I dont watch too much rugby or follow it too closely but if there's a big game on FTA and I have time, I might watch it. I watched some 7s cos New Zillund was in the Olympics.

Sheesh. If I ever hear another NZ commentator describe a game as 'scintillating' or 'pulsating' I swear I will drive to the nearest TV station and shove a thesaurus up someone's backside.

Rassie Erasmus is behaving in a totally bizarre way at the moment. Between the burner social media accounts and the hour long rant he posted about the refereeing I've lost a lot of respect for him.

He's had struggles with his demons on and off over the years, along with general health, I believe this is an outlet for his stress response. It's unfortunate.

Dingbatt:

That has been two ropey games by the Black Fern 7s. Kind of reminds me of the men in Rio. I hope they sort their act out by tomorrow.

That was a shock start, but man, they composed themselves to finish strongly. Blyde is *so* quick. I think she is possibly the fastest woman on our team right now.

That was disappointing by ROC against the 7's but on the plus side we play them again tonight and looks like we are all but guaranteed a semi's position.

Looks like he will step down, which is probably pre-empting disciplinary action he is likely to face from World Rugby.

What a shame to end like this.

There's been a woeful response by NZR to the Shannon Frizzell assault. It's totally unsurprising but when they trot out all the hagiography about the All Blacks being wonderful human beings and then give this sort of wet bus ticket suspension it shows it's all BS.

I agree the suspension seems short considering what he is accused of, but then the courts were very lenient as well, which makes me wonder what else is in the picture we don't know about.

I generally support NZR's stance of not sending players into the wilderness after an infraction ala Aaron Smith, but this is a different thing and I think should really have resulted in stronger punishment.

What Smith did was stupid and between himself and his partner/s.

What Frizzell and Reece did were a whole different circumstance and both got similarly insipid punishments.

So what punishment do they deserve in your eyes?

Reece was given intense supervision and required to undertake considerable counselling and hasn't missed a step as yet. I feel had he of been cut loose, the outcome for him would have been much worse longer term from a personal development perspective (I care less about his professional development).

It's not clear what additional steps Frizzell is required to undertake. I do feel 2 match suspension feels pretty light though.

The Womens 7's team is giving me a heart attack.  Having said that, their composure under massive pressure has been pretty impressive. Many teams would have imploded under the pressure of some of those comebacks.

Having watched the Fiji/Aussie quarterfinal I knew the Ferns were in for a tough match. It is hard to know just how sapping the conditions in Japan are. Woodman looked out on her feet.

Kind of glad France beat GB.

For assault I think the suspension entry point should be 12 weeks.

For domestic violence 24 weeks.
