Good news on the common sense arena, where Jordie Barrett has not been further sanctioned for the red card he got against the Wallabies.
I think they would have been hard pressed to have gone further with it, there were a number of mitigating circumstances. I think they need to come up with a way to deal with situations like that particular one. Koribete almost certainly would have collected him in the air if not for getting a boot in the face, and what more could Jordie have done? Under the current guidelines I don't really think they had a choice as to what was dished out on field, but Koribetes position could potentially have been considered a factor for mitigation. I was so glad they introduced the 20 minute card option. Perhaps they need a purple card where there has been mitigating circumstances or in the case where it's entirely accidental, which gives the player 20 minutes, but a red card is permanent removal of a player for the remainder of the game.
I see there are some new guidelines being explored which prevents the use of pods, and other measures. I only glanced at them and didn't really understand how they would work, but I am all for considering options to try and remove damage to heads. My wife says she sees 2-3 cases a week of serious concussion incidents related to sport and all the other doctors she works with see a similar amount. That from 1 practice alone.
