And people call me biased?

I believe you lambasted Dagg for failing to stop a try when the inside Centres failed to do their job, but BS gets a pass for the similar thing?

If you're referring to my reply to itxtme then that's a result of my lazy quoting and not editing.

To be clear, the part of his post that I was agreeing with was "Really?  Had some good touches, but he also made some bad decisions."

I've never said Dagg was never a good player.  I've also never said Dagg should not play for the AB's again.  What I have said is that he is currently too out of form, and there are better players, to risk taking him to bring back William Webb Ellis.

You're right he wasn't at his best, he would be better off in his preferred position of full back.

And the position where he is number one in the country.  Easily.

Well if we aren't playing people out of position, then Piatau wouldn't be on the wing, and given BS is the best 15 in the country..... Bottom line is that BS is an excellent player and has done GREAT things for the AB's on the Wing. People make mistakes and there are supposed to be 14 others on the field to defend when they happen, singling out a single player and then not doing it to every other player isn't a reasonable approach? Did I claim Dagg was amazing on Sunday AM? Nope. Do I think he should be at the RWC, yup. I think a combination of Dagg AND Smith are good backline decisions. Hansen and Co are not stupid, there is obviously stuff that we can't see that is leaving Dagg in the starting line up. Perhaps he won't make the 31 to go to England, and if he doesn't I'd be disappointed but not devastated, but I would say it's unlikely.

I'm interested then to see what you believe the score would have been this weekend with Ben Smith @ Full Back and another player on the Wing (and Dagg not in the match day team)? Savea is being told to get fitter, so who would have played the other wing? Millner Skudder? He is a Full Back too.

I'm not a dagg fan but to say he was responsible for that second try are just wrong.

Quite clearly dagg is coming across to commit to the other attacker. Conrad and Nonu both commit and fail to stop the try scorer. Not a lot he could do once he burst through.

Great Picture.

The kick chase from the Boks on the first try was really good, it was a pinpoint kick. I am unsure, but I'd suggest it was never going to be ideal defensively. If Dagg doesn't throw the pass (I don't think the fact it was high would have made that much difference given how quickly du-Plusiee was steaming toward Read), he would have taken the contact and the ball would have been turned over anyways because there was no defensive backup for Dagg (or Read that I could see) to place the ball to in the tackle, and they would have just run straight ahead on the other wing.

On another note, Hooper looks likely to be sitting on the sideline for at least a couple of weeks (Striking Charge), and Skelton despite his size is proving to be costly in penalties for the Wallabies, I'll be interested to see how long they spend trying to iron him out before deciding his extra weight isn't worth it. Between Hooper and Pocock I'd rather face Pocock who doesn't run as hard at the line. Hooper has been busting tackles and running like a crazy man all season!

Exactly, Dagg is too flat and past the line of the ball.  A good full back allows more room from his defensive line, to give the ability to make covering tackles, and reduce the risk of the chip kick.  Dagg was not directly responsible for this try.  However as a full back he didnt make good descions.  He needed to be 4-5m deeper and tracking the ball across, not running in front of it.  It was not his job to run up covering Conrads man, by doing so he removed the cover defense, and that sealed the try.

There is a lot of emotion in this thread, I am just calling it how I see it.  I want him to be great, thats the best thing for my team, but I think he has been inconsistent as of late.

Apparently the McCaw try was illegal on two counts, logic seems reasonable.

I'm not surprised. Rugby laws are so complicated you need a lawyer to figure them out!

Strictly speaking it's correct, but both teams had the same ref, there would have been things not picked up on the other side, and I am sure it's happened to us as well in other games.

A player jumps early in every single line out, in every single game. I have never seen it pinged on a regular basis.

As far as I'm concerned the try is fine. Bit rich they've moaned about this given the intentional cheating they went through in last years win

First law of professional sport is that it's only cheating if you get caught. The losing team always complains about cheating, both teams are constantly pushing the boundaries.

Ultimately say in the knockout if two teams are finely balanced, the lucky one wins. Ie the one that the ref missed something to their advantage. Sad but true!

True of almost all sports in Knockout rounds. Refs are people, people make mistakes.
