Is Schmidt going over with the team to South Africa ? ...otherwise we will have the added nightmare of Foster running the backs too.
No he won't travel with then.
Foster was backs and attack coach in 2015 a period of probably our most dominant period.
Foster didn't really need to coach that backline too much though, we had so many great thinking backs, like Conrad Smith, Nonu & Carter etc... NZRU are fools not to send Schmidt over, the team need all the hands-on help they can get on that tour.
That coaching group created the pod attacking structure, which every team in the world now uses. I'm guessing the attack coach had something to do with the attack.

The Pod creation is much more likely to come from the forward coaches... why would you give Foster any credit for that ? only have to see how bloody poor his strategy is for trying to counter the rushing defence.

Definitely a waste of my time debating Foster with you... you can't even acknowledge how poor his strategy is against the rushing defence.
The way the Bok play they're going to bombard us with up & unders, we need to show really good technique under the high ball... Cory Jane was only a short bloke, but his technique was excellent under the high stuff, he'd time his jump well, and while in the air kept one of his knees up as high as possible, which would protect him, therefore giving him plenty of confidence to catch it.
Just read something that blew my mind. In 6 years, the Crusaders have not conceded a try through a rolling maul.
That's incredible.

Feels about how long the Blues have been having lineout issues, so being one of the few teams that could get down that end of the Crusaders field, I'm not entirely surprised!
I can think of at least two games the Blues threw away with a not-straight feed over the past two years on the Crusaders goal line at the death as well
I find it kind of amazing that so many fans are screaming that Foster is the cause of all our issues. We have had issues in forwards for at least a couple of years at the Crusaders (and at Super Rugby level in general), and whilst the Blues did well this season, their results made them look better than they actually were.
They nearly lost to a 13 man Crusaders side, had poor discipline all season, and won quite a few games by the skin of their teeth that they probably shouldn't have won, due to getting the rub of the green with Referees etc. A win is a win, but could they count on getting those wins in another year?
The Crusaders got the wobbles mid season and people were declaring their reign of terror over, and we did have a very good finals performance which is probably the strength of the Crusaders, but our forwards were average for long periods of the regular season.
That isn't suddenly going to go away come test season.
Hansen was challenging props to be a lot better in 2018 and 2019, able to see we were not competitive compared to NH teams at the same level.
Foster hasn't made the forwards worse in my opinion, but I do think there was a definite lack of focus on key areas of accuracy etc.
I don't really care what the problems are, there will always be problems. What matters is what is being done to find solutions. Foster hasn't been in the job for 6 months, he's been head coach for 2 years and part of the management team for 10 years.
The same problems have existed since the Lions tour, what are they doing to change the way we play and develop players to fix it?
The best teams in the world have far more developed attacking and defensive patterns compared to the NZ shovel the ball down the line and hope you find a gap pattern of play.

He can get out of his contract if he isn't named All Blacks coach in 2024. This isn't news.
Ryan was asked by a reporter on the TV 1 News, what are you going to add to the forwards - he replied, it's not what I'm going to add, it's what I'm going to take away... that gives me real confidence that our forwards will improve in SA, by keeping their minds uncluttered they will think clearer & perform better during a match.
Maybe we could split off another thread that just argues about Ian Foster over and over, day after day, and leave this one as a general rugby union discussion thread? Foster and his assistants have been appointed and that's not changing for at least the next two tests. So how about discussing things that can and should change? Let's listen to Princess Ana and 'let it go' - at least for now.
They've now named a 40 man squad (36 + 3 +1), so nearly every likely player in NZ is in that squad. There are a few exceptions, like Grace and Weber, but again, that's not changing for at least 2 tests. However, there is massive scope for changing the match-day 23 and starting 15 - and that's where there could be some really interesting opinions and discussion.
In terms of main selections, 6 is still a big issue. I was impressed with Barrett at 6, but without Rettalick, they might move him back in. I think in Vai'i trains well, maybe he should start at lock, with Barrett at 6. With Ioane on the bench, they can change that during the game if they need to.
In the backline, I've always thought, Jordan should be at fullback and Rieko isn't a good enough test centre. I'd personally go with Jordie at 12, ALB/Goodhue at 13, Rieko on one wing and Jordan at 15. That leaves the other wing to Reece, or Clarke. However, with both ALB and Goodhue out for now, I think they probably do have to go with Rieko at 13. Maybe they could still move Jordie to 12, but I don't think they will with the barrage of bombs coming.
I think now might be the time to go back to Mo'unga at 10. Critics say he only goes well behind a dominant pack, so let's see him behind a pack up against the Boks in SA.
I'd definitely start Taukei'aho at hooker. Taylor has had enough chances and even his supposed strength of lineout throwing has misfired.
I've been keen for Newell to be in the squad and happy to see him there, but I don't think he should necessarily be in the 23 for now. The experience on tour will be invaluable though. He could maybe wear the 18 jersey and it would be a baptism of fire against the 'bomb squad', but what a way to learn. Hopefully he features big time on the end of season tour.
