Schmidt to be attack coach. Non traveling I presume, which does make for an interesting combo. MacDonald was a possibility, but I think it would have seriously set the Blues back somewhat.

Schmidt has been named as attack coach, not as a non-travelling coach. The comment about his wife would indicate that he’s travelling.

Handle9: Lol.

It was acknowledged by Mitchell that they had screwed this up royally.

Not just Mitchell, but Robinson, not once, but twice.

Honestly I think you should stop commenting on him.  You show zero ability to critically assess the media you consume which has lead you to this weird position of blaming him for everything.

I think Mitchells comments at the start of the press conference were telling, maybe worth re-listening, and then probably in your case re-listening again.  It is clear the media have pulled stories in directions and narrative as wanted when wanted, and these change from week to week.

I am glad to see a plan going forward that involves change, as 3 years after its inception it was clear the status quo was failing miserably, onwards and upwards!

I honestly feel *you* should stop being insulting. Mitchell and Robinson (Twice in the initial speaking at the press conference, and twice more in subsequent responses to questions) said things hadn't been handled well (and that as a result Foster had been put under additional pressure). I am not sure what you imagine they are referring to, but if you take a look on social media, *many* many people have stepped up to defend Foster because of the way he has been treated. Even those who vehemently oppose(d) his appointment. I'd say you are totally the outlier in suggesting NZR has acted like a responsible employer. As I have said all along, there is a difference between being held accountable and saying someones results aren't acceptable to them as an employee, and broadcasting your displeasure for (literally in this case) the whole world to see. If your manager had an issue with your performance, I imagine you'd object to them letting all your customers know, and the other staff, and undermining your position. it does not matter how much you are paid, you are entitled to respect and fair and reasonable treatment.

The decision has been made, and supposedly at every level Foster has the backing he needs, and he will be our coach through to the world cup. Hopefully, we can now stop the near-daily coach bashing and get behind the All Blacks.

It's pretty incredible that a bloke can be reviewed so much, yet still keep his job ? ...anyway, it's going to be Ryan & Schmidt that are going to make the real difference for the team.

Won't be getting out of the group at the WC. Genuinely wouldn't be surprised to see Argies do a number on us too, they will be fired up after smashing a decent Aussie outfit and our players will have fallen back on the "only need to show up" mentality.

I'll be interested in seeing how NZR handle the post RWC coaching decision. Hopefully they have learnt from what happened in 2019 and look to get the coach for 2023 appointed early.

The way France handled their transition in 2019 should be a blue print for how to hand over to a new coach.

You may as well stop now. We get it - if we win it's due to Ryan and Schmidt. If we lose its on Foster. And there's absolutely no middle ground where they all have influence.

ABs must be stoked to have 'fans' like you.

I'm happy to have a decent bet with you on this. Put your money where your mouth is. We'll cruise out of the group.

Anything after that is knock out footy where anything can happen. Better ABs teams than this one have crashed out of the World Cup

Ive been less than enthused over the AB's the last few years for reasons Ive stated earlier in this thread. Now is a turning point, and not referring to today's announcement. Its quite clear that we are not as good as we thought we were. Either we aren't, or others have progressed better. Either way, the complacency is over. I think you will find a new resolve from here on, and hard work, and dedication. It's a reset. And it doesnt require 2 wins against ARG and AUS, it just means growing. Playing top tier teams in this comp will be invaluable, irregardless of the results.

What nonsense.

If Plumtree was still taking the forwards our chances of winning that last test in South Africa would've been very slim or none - anyone with good rugby nous can see the big contribution Ryan has made drilling the forwards, can notice the way we're executing our scrums & lineouts much better, also how much we have improved at the breakdown, they're the main areas where you dominate the game from... Ryan has done the same role for the Crusaders, playing a big part in them winning the last 5 or 6 Super Rugby titles.

I’m confused. I though Foster = bad things, other people = good things. Now Plumbtree = bad things.

4D chess is hard.

Hardly difficult to work out, just look for the ones with the best skill sets.

Looks like Foster got the role as Hansen's assistant because they are good mates... sure as hell wasn't for his great coaching ability, he never won a Super Rugby title as head coach for the Chiefs, when he left Rennie replaced him & won 2 Super titles in a row for the Chiefs... tell me about all these great coaching skills Foster has, or stop your moaning.

I'm also happy to take that action. Cruising through to the quarters, and I believe at least to the Semi's. We have a long way to go and some positive changes look promising. I am not kidding myself, we still have some major obstacles to overcome, but I believe in 12 months time we will be better than we are today by some margin.

The problem with knockout rugby is that sometimes the better team doesn't win, just the better team on the day, or the one that gets the lucky bounce or the favourable referee decision, or an accidental collision results in a red card. Anyone taking a win in a knockout game for granted, is a fool in my view.

If you think Hansen would have kept Foster on if he was dead weight, and risk his own neck, then I have a bridge you might be interested in buying. In the same way you are saying Foster contributes nothing to the head coaching role (despite players 100% backing him), but that HIS assistants are now doing all the heavy lifting?  Foster was probably too slow to let Plumtree go, but his appointment made reasonable sense on paper, given his experience and qualifications, same with Moar. You can have good coaches fail in particular environments and that doesn't make them bad coaches? Was Hansen a bad coach? His tenure at Wales by his own admission was a total trainwreck. Even as I am writing this, I know it's falling on deaf ears....

I honestly don't particularly care if Foster isn't the best coach in the world, if he can make up for it by involving people who may or may not be smarter than him, and we get a decent result from it, that's fine. Coaching isn't a one-man job.
