I hear things like “this is improving,” “that player is doing better”. “The team is gaining this and that and improving here and there. However the performance over 80 minutes and results do not reflect this.
The All Blacks are supposed to be the best that Aotearoa has to offer in every position including coaching and support. The All Blacks are not supposed to be the training division they should already know what is required have the skills and use those skill at every outing. The place for player development is in the championship and Super Rugby.

This of course is my impressions. I don’t employ senior account directors and expect to train them in the basics, they are paid to already know and then employ those paid for skills consistently.

Hmm. May as well not have a head coach of the AB's. We could just pick anyone who is considered test quality at random and since they are expected to be the best and at their best at all times, and not require any further development, then we should have a fantastic winning record.

Based on that, MacDonald and Robertson are ultimately responsible for Auckland and Canterbury AB's failure to fire consistently.

Foster was pretty critical of the AB's failure to kick for more territory, which seems to indicate it was what they were told to do and they either didn't do it, or do it effectively.

I do find it pretty amusing though, that often you see people complaining that Foster keeps switching the team around too much not allowing us to form our best team, but when he picks the same team for 3 weeks, he is given a hard time for picking a losing team a second week in a row. Incidentally, the majority who were involved in a pretty impressive win in South Africa a few weeks ago.

It just goes to show, no matter what he does, people will find fault with it, and it's pretty much all his fault, very little to do with anything else like players not doing their jobs etc.

I did not single out the coach. To save time I wrote..... "The All Blacks are supposed to be the best that Aotearoa has to offer in every position including coaching and support"

It'd be nice if you said what you wanted to happen more clearly. It's difficult to decipher when your posts are frequently cryptic.

Sure, but your original complaint was you felt with the current team we would lose, I am just not sure who exactly you have a problem with. I am genuinely curious who others would pick in the hope of improving our chances of getting better?

Handle9: Smith and Christie had exactly the same number of runs.

Smith kicked 4 times. I’d need to check but I’m pretty sure they were all from exits and effective. What would you have had him do on each of those kicks?

The criticism of the backs is pretty funny, especially Ioane. When he’s had space he’s played very well this year. His defense has been excellent as well.

The forwards aren’t winning the gain line and our back play is still very lateral as they haven’t got space and are shoveling. When we win the gain line and create space and we look ok.

Ioane has improved a lot, I agree his defence has been very good this year. His distribution skills are still poor.

From the stats breakdown I saw, we are actually winning more collisions and making the gain line much more frequently than we were 3 tests ago. What is actually hurting us, is that it's almost like we aren't expecting to make the gain line, so our cleaners aren't there, and the gainline player gets isolated and turned over. We have improved, but we have a ways to go. I would say, at least for 40 minutes, the quality of our cleanouts has improved significantly (when we get there, which isn't often/fast enough).

I agree we are still prone to lateral movement and desperately looking for a hole that requires a miracle play to create points.

For the first 40 minutes of the test last weekend, I thought we were showing good signs and creating pressure and accumulating points, the second half it felt like we switched off. Penalties and discipline really cost us.

If another player had put Jordie Barrett into space the way Ioane did we would never have heard the end of it. The outside backs are consistently getting crap ball shovelled at them and having to straighten the attack.

If you are getting turned over you aren't winning the gain line. The quality of the ball still is pretty poor with bodies all over the place.

IMO a fair bit of this comes back to the way super rugby is officiated and coached. We hear players and commentators talking about "technical" referees. They aren't technical, they are officiating the laws as they are written, not looking for reasons not to give penalties. Our forwards don't carry and clean in an efficient way and when they get to the next level they get found out.

I thought you made good points mate.

We clearly need to win this one - but a scrappy win to just get over the line playing inconsistent rugby isn't going to mean that much... both our forwards & backs have to play with real urgency, and execute accurately throughout the whole match making the most of our opportunities, if we do that with the backs we have we should be able to win comfortably.

Rugby needs to sort it’s ridiculous advantage rule out. He made 35m ffs, should be 3 phases or 10m passed the gain line and it’s over. Absolutely moronic.

Brilliant performance by the ABs, we put the foot on the throat from the start & kept it there... the big difference this time with our attack was the variation of our tactics, the main thing was well weighted kicks behind them into space by Mo'unga & Havili, which played a big part in breaking down their flat defence, also creating tries for us.

It's from broken play & playing down the flanks that Ioane really shows out, he may as well be playing on the wing.
