Earbanean:

Interesting they have gone with McMenamin, when most people seemed to be assuming Kennedy Simon would come in for Mikaele-Tu’u.  I thought McMenamin had played well and was slightly unlucky to be pipped by Bremner on the blindside, so not a bad option.

Kennedy has come back from a serious injury was my understanding, and seemed a fraction hesitant in contact, but that could just be my imagination. I think Mikaele-Tu’u would have been a good choice too, big and strong, makes the gain line easily enough.

I think if we have any chance, we are going to have to break down England in the forwards and hope our backs can get around their backs toward the end of the game.

Hitting gaps at pace will be another potential point of difference. I am a bit worried about our lineout, esp given our tactical kicking, whilst the best it has been all tournament, last week, still is a fair distance between the better teams.

England have gone 6-2 on the bench with two loose forward replacements. They are playing Aitchison at 12 so it looks like they will play position and dare the Black Ferns to run from deep.

Having Aitchison starting but covering 10 and with Macdonald able to cover scrum half and wing it gives them some options with injuries while giving them an extra forward.

Mikaele-Tu’u is injured, so not an option.  Hence the change.

I haven't been that invested in a game of rugby since the 2011 world cup final. Great result, if not a lot closer than it should have been

So stoked for the professor and the team. Great result.

@Kopkiwi - might need to get your crystal ball retuned.

Wow! That was an entertaining game.

Congratulations to the Black Ferns.
But what a ferocious England team, particularly since the played the majority of the match with 14 players.

I admit yelling at the screen when NZ kept kicking the ball away in the last 10 minutes. And particularly when they took the tap penalty with 3 minutes to play rather than going for the sideline and running down the clock in England’s half. That meant they had to achieve a miracle on their own line. And luckily they did.

I’ve said it before, the rolling maul is a blight on the game. When else in open play are you allowed to have players ahead of the ball carrier obstructing defenders? It was pretty much England’s entire gameplan. And so it ended up a game of set-piece brute force vs high tempo expansive play.

Stacy Fluhler was the player of the match for me.

Man, what a team these women are. What fantastic sportspeople, people, and role models.

I am just so so happy right now. A lot of dust in my lounge for some reason!

They said they couldn't win, they said they couldn't fill Eden Park.

World Champions!

I couldn't be more proud!

Not much of a rugby fan so don't really understand all the rules. The red seems harsh for what was an accidental head collision. What else was she supposed to do there?
But if that is a red it doesn't make sense that the second one was yellow. Ref said something about the shoulder so must have seen a different replay to the one we got on TV.

The high tackle framework doesn’t differentiate between head on head and shoulder on head. It does differentiate from initial point of contact.

The Kennedy-Simon tackle made initial contact with the shoulder and secondary contact with the head. The Thompson tackle made direct head on head contact. You can see the difference in the way Portia Woodman was knocked out where Abbey Dow was able to return after an HIA.
