Great that we won, would've been a shocker had we lost though - we didn't play smart rugby when they were down to 14 for the last 60 odd minutes... Ferns lacked patience/composure, good decision making & kicked too aimlessly.

Ferns didn't help themselves playing a bit too much kamikaze rugby from very deep in their own half, instead needed to exit well kicking the ball out, like the Poms did from a similar situations... our 10 is useless, I'd slot someone in like our fullback at 10, who can actually strike the ball well & get decent distances with her punts.

Pretty self explanatory isn’t it? Demant was player of the match. You said she was useless.

I'm fine with most of pack starting, gives them a good run before the Pommy match - don't agree with the musical chairs in the backline, amazed Christie is getting another start, and BB is a brain explosion at 10... also it's silly moving our best midfielder JB to fullback.

Actually think about what I said... which she is useless getting good distance with her punting, which is a vital skill for a 10 to have to clear the ball from their danger zone etc.

This is what you said;

artbloke

our 10 is
useless

On top of that you want to play 15 at 10 just because she has a better kick, disregarding game management and combination with 12 completely.

I do agree they didn't play smart rugby and made too many simple errors which kept England in the game, especially exits. The plan would have been to run England off their feet. Black Ferns should have won that comfortably, but from where they have come from in the last 12 months that is a massive loss for the English.

I enjoyed the karma moment, when the decision on a lineout was reversed after it was determined that Demant had not touched the ball kicked by the opposition.

Had the England team not taken so long to conduct the lineout, there wouldn’t have been time for the TMO to review it (including showing it on the big screen for the Eden Park crowd to see). So by having an injury break and team conference, they ended up losing the lineout and another opportunity to employ their rolling maul. Refs need to crack down on time wasting to allow teams that aren’t as fit to catch their breath.

Same collision same game one red one yellow?

Not much of a rugby fan so don't really understand all the rules. The red seems harsh for what was an accidental head collision. What else was she supposed to do there?
But if that is a red it doesn't make sense that the second one was yellow. Ref said something about the shoulder so must have seen a different replay to the one we got on TV.

Rugby is a waste of time, outcome is decided by the ref.

Having said that, a win is a win, very happy for the women and for the country! SOmething to celebrate!

But don't ask me to go in there and put my body on the line for the ref to decide on the outcome!

What you said was she was useless. No qualification. It may not have been exactly what you meant, which seems to bit of a theme in your posts, but you said she was useless, and you'd be lucky if you could find another person to agree with you.

Perhaps you could take a minute to review your posts for readability and to make sure they reflect what you are actually trying to say.

As has been pointed out, exchanging our 15 for 10 for a single part of the game to be better isn't going to fly. Given her other strengths, it's far more sensible that we help her develop her kicking game.

There was a massive number of things we needed to improve from last year, and there isn't time to get them all perfect, so Wayne Smith picked the things that would have the most impact and given the result, you'd argue he got it mostly correct.

I feel the Black Ferns were probably fortunate to have played against 14 for 60 minutes. I think it would have been a tough ask to have won against 15. That isn't to take anything from their win.

Work on's would be Maul defense, mostly around managing when the point of the maul is shifting. Our tactical kicking and the distance we kick could use some work.

On another note, the post-match interviews, the sing-a-long with Rubi Tui, the passion was just unbeatable. They are a bit of a National treasure. We could use a bit of that passion in our men's team I think, though I suspect it wouldn't go down well with many people :)

@artbloke

Watch this video to the end, let me know afterward, if you think you'd still replace Ruahei Demant, because one part of her game didn't meet your expectations?

I wasn't in favour as her as captain at the start, preferring Hirini for her experience, but after this campaign and that video, wow.

Unbelievable ! try reading my post properly - I said she was useless at punting good distances only, and it is a huge part of the 1st-fives game, we obviously couldn't switch our 15 to 10 during the match, talk sense... clearly meant we need someone at 10 after the RWC that can punt the ball as well as our 15 does.
