Dingbatt:

Admittedly it was right from the sideline, but Jordie’s last conversion attempt was probably the worst kick I’ve seen him do all season.

My heart sank when I saw who the replacement ref was. At least he adjudicated both sides evenly, but there were a a few head scratchers in there. It’s almost as if he was brushing up on the offside laws just before taking the field.

I had hoped (and it was looking good until the 72nd minute) that they would be able to celebrate Brodie’s 100th with a win. No one should be blaming Foster for this result. That lies squarely with the players.

Raynal was Raynal. Lots of odd penalties but he was fair to both sides.

Foster and the coaching staff can take some responsibility, they took a punt on some selections and they got found out a bit. That’s not the end of the world, it helps them a lot for next year and the World Cup squad. I’m happy they tried some stuff otherwise you never find out.

Wales going down to Georgia, I would never have picked that. It's a very strange world we live in, master Jack

I'm still not convinced that 71st minute try was right to be given. What was the on-field call? Held up or try?

Shouldn't have been given. On field was no try. There was no clear and obvious evidence that ball was grounded on or over the line. I think it was grounded back in the field of play.

Regardless, the ABs should never have let themselves get into a position where a call like that would have affected the result.

Wales are really a mess at the moment. I was pretty happy for Georgia though, we spent a couple of weeks there in August. It’s a nice country with a lot of similarities to New Zealand. They even have feijoas.

It would have been very dangerous around the Georgian team last night. One things Georgians are world class at is drinking and toasts. They drink wine and chacha (the local brandy made from wine skins) like water.

I only saw the last 15 minutes or so but Scotland Argentina was a spiteful game. Cards everywhere and generally nasty. It’s the nastiest test I’ve seen in a while.

Another torpedo ruck red card, this was worse than PSDT or Retalick, Kremer never made an effort to get low and there was a swinging arm involved.

Ah crap. TJ Perenara has a ruptured Achilles. That’s his World Cup chances probably done. That sucks.

I was really disappointed England kicked the ball out at the end of the Match rather than keep playing in the hope of a win. That felt very cowardly. If they had kept it in play, then they might have lost, or given their momentum in the last 5 minutes, they could have won. I don't think the AB's would have done the same and if they did I would have been very annoyed.

I agree the AB's are building in a positive way, before Artbloke was given some time off, I was wondering how he was going to blame Foster this week for a mixed performance (I was imagining he might try and pitch the first 70 minutes as All Ryan and Schmidt and somehow Foster took over in the last 10 for some reason, perhaps a bathroom break). There is definitely a problem in the AB's on how to finish out a game, and keep momentum together. Last week the replacements probably saved their bacon, this week, quite possibly the opposite. We looked really good and under control for most of the time we played, though I must say I've not seen England make so many basic errors in a match for a while.  Both Mo'unga and Rieko had very mixed games, I agree with Dingbatt that he probably needs to be a little more conservative with his kicks, though as a percentage, the extra distance vs the number of times he fails to get touch is probably worth it). The selectors obviously feel that there is still enough reason for Lualala to keep playing over some of the newbies, I trust them, but it will surprise me if he features in the RWC if he doesn't have an unbelievable preseason and Super Rugby Campaign.

It's that time of year where I realize Rugby is over for the year and I need to wait until January to see any more. Most of the sport I follow ends in the next few days.

Well earned! Well deserved. Fantastic. Demant got women's Rugby player of the year. I can only imagine certain peoples reaction to that!

Kremer and Lavaninge need to be gone from Rugby, and there really needs to be a change of mindset from the coaches and management.

It'll be interesting when NZR announce the process for the All Blacks coach in 2024. Coaches are coming off the board already and the process last time was completely screwed up.

England want their new coach appointed by May, it looks like Jones is going to the US and Shaun Edwards has just signed an extension with France. With Rennie likely gone from Australia, Joseph off contract in Japan and Pivac certainly gone from Wales after 2023 there are a heap of jobs open that could be attractive. If NZR don't act soon they will have the same problem as last time with a lack of applicants wasting money on buying out coaches.

IMO the best model would be the one France used, and England is also following this time, where the incoming coach joins the team for the World Cup in an observational/support role. It's worked wonderfully for France, with Galthie able to hit the ground running and knowing the existing core group well. He was able to immediately clean out the guys he didn't want and bring in their golden generation from the back to back under 20s championships.
