At least the National women’s teams in the oval ball games (union and league) gave me something to smile about this weekend because the men’s teams didn’t. Add to that the cricketers getting pipped by Aussie as well.
I blame Covid 😁

Supercars are also on if you want to see Kiwis winning stuff.

If we were a little bit better from a tee, that game was ours.
true true. but in the wet they were far from gimmes too.
headbutts clearly need stamping out, but not accidents of smooshing noses from standing ball n all tackles, yellow suffices there imo.
Id like to see the game get back to the skill of running the ball, passing, set plays etc and reffing focus more closely on grubbery that spoils running rugby, faf it.

In the 78th minute Christie was going to kick it back to them. We also seem to throw hail mary long passes that are going to float forward; you're just backing yourself to get a favourable ruling at that point. Just not needed at all. We did both in the last few minutes of the game.

always enjoy watching the women's game. cricket to nearly chase down 386 is a fine effort (down to final ball), we still ahead of aus on table, but sa sneaking ahead of us into 2nd didnt make the rugby any easier to watch this morning.
so having not watched the game and doing some research on all the cards. i am now convinced all the cards and the colour of the cards were the correct decision.
didn't this thread have an issue with sam cane and his tackling behind a bit too high, in the past. it must have been buried hundreds of pages in but iirc not the first time he has issue with tackling too high.
sounds like missing (or not taking) some kicks were the difference at the end.
i've moved on, all the best Razor.
congratulations SA, commiserations ABs

Pollard kicked 4 from 4.
We missed two kicks to go ahead.
That's all it is really. That and our discipline cost us the game, nothing else .... Well done SA, it was never going to be an easy game.

perhaps, yes as it stands, technically. but this is where trying to protect players via TMO technicalities, rather than common sense and intent, is going too far at the detriment of the game being a contact sport.
I think trying to turn any obvious accidental head clash into a red card is absurd vs someone tacking somones head not being a red simply because it was lucky enough to be glancing, regardless of it still causing head trauma, like the technicalities govern how serious trauma is. the only time anything more than a yellow for me makes sense is an obvious deliberate head butt, swinging arm, shoulder charge etc.
the deliberate knock on was a good change but it seems to get confused with trying to interecept sometimes. It feels like Union reffing is relying on the TMO too much and technicalities in the rule book rather than applying common sense and obvious intent.
I also think blatant team cheating ruins the game the most and it needs more attention than these head clash technicalities.
For me today the red was technically correct but absolutely nuts. The Sa one was just as bad, but technically he had lined the players head up even better by putting for leverage into the hit by bending the back so that is better..... we all know from having both happen which one causes more trauma and an ref who needs a TMO technicality to figure that out shouldnt be a ref.
Im hoping something comes of it and changes in how far the use of the TMO in Union has come and especially accidental standing heads knocking (get the TMO into the middle of a scrum rofl).
Regardless NZ had the opportunities to win but they just couldnt land them. reminds me of the missed drop goals of the infamous NZ vs Sa final.

I gotta give props to Ardie as captain after Cane left. His communication with the ref was better and our decision not to kick the 3 and back the lineout to go for the 5, was corageous. If only the dang conversion was online, tough in those conditions to pin it on the kicking all the same.
networkn: You lost me at 'having not watched the game'.
Cant take anything seriously after that phrase.

I used to be a massive rugby fan. I have met a few too. But when Richie, Dane, Corey etc etc left, and then we smashed two island nations early season, and "this is the best team ever", I lost interest. But I love sport. The skill, and at any elite level it's often between the ears. Rugby is awkward as its a really short game. Golf, 4 days, cricket 5 days, Tennis, many many hours, or Google Mahut vs Isner. In such short games luck matters, good or bad. IMHO, as the RWC is a premier event, and in NZ its THE premier event, it needs to be best of three Final. That helps to remove the run of the green, and natural ups and downs.
Re the TMO and ref, I have no issue. Its the rules. TMO's exist everywhere in many sports. All they do is get a bit closer to adherence of the rules.
Wow a real shame. I feel we played right into their game plan, yet still came very close. Its never ideal apologising for a penalty before a kicks even taken, admitting you were wrong. Having said that we had multiple chances to win that game and shelled them. We were hurt bad with the lineout inside there 22. Two chances went begging. We used our bench poorly, specifically the backs. ALB and Mckenzie made impact, but were brought on with less than 10 to go. A lightening half back could have been a great specialty to bring on, but no Coach choose the incumbent. And what was with the kicking away possession with minutes to go, both BBarret and Christie guilty.
World rugby needs to sort out the cards. Frizzels doesnt make sense if the bunker says it was accidental then it should never have been a card, very strange. Ultimately a red card like Super rugby works much better, especially when they are given with such a low bar.
Good riddance to players out of position, and journeyman riding the coattails. Time for a new era of NZ rugby.

The same logic says the points Barnes gifted them incorrectly was the difference as well. Can't have that argument both ways.
