Rugby: Australian chair Hamish McLennan ousted in boardroom vote after World Cup debacle | Newshub

Jones exits one month out and aussie talent is in a slump. I think they fired the wrong guy. Hes done so much on the commercial front, imo the biggest he should be proud of is getting the aussie women paid, its a start. no doubt others will pick more lofty of his achievements.

Hes a ball buster and hes right, NRL is the winner in this.

I think NZ rugby board could do with him, damn if the Warriors could afford him, obviously the NRL, any board big enough (which isnt the Warriors lol). Hes a ball buster take no prisoners type, the male version of the the "Yellow stone's" Ranch owners daughter, Bethany Dutton.

And Yet, this "Ball Buster" managed to pick an ineffective and demented Jones. Would not want him to Captain My Ship, Team, or Country!

We have signed quite a few 'old timers' in place of younger guys who have moved on. I hope we have that balance right.

We could be in for a tough year given what we have lost, including the coach. It potentially makes us a little vulnerable.

They're still ex-Crusaders though, so I'd imagine it's far better from a team culture perspective than the era of Auckland mopping up the ex-Hurricane players that backfired spectacularly.

I mean, yeah, they are all high quality players, and we got some great mileage of the old timers we ended up having to use last year when we got down to barely being able to field a forward pack, I just hope we get that balance properly.

As far as I can understand, with a number of senior players departing, they are likely at least partially doing this to keep the culture strong, which is obviously winning formula.

It seems Beauden Barrett to reprise his role at the Blues.

I think it's important he returns, we are grimly short of experienced consistently performing tens in the country right now.

I can't fathom why Schmidt would want to be Wallabies coach, given the mess the ARU have made with Rugby in Australia for the last 20 years.  Good luck to him though, he is going to need it.

It will be really interesting to see which directions he takes with the Wallabies, whether that is Eddie Jones style, out with the old in with the inexperienced, or goes back to a mix of experience and youth of a more traditional cycle.

He'd repeatedly made clear he didn't want another head coaching gig, I wonder what changed his mind.

That really isn't great. The guy really struggles to stay out of trouble.

Cash.

Lots of it.

And probably some really favourable work conditions.

ARU don't have lots of cash. Not sure what favourable work conditions mean, but I guess it's kinda irrelevant. They have tried Kiwi coaches before, unless there are changes to their entire Rugby Structure, and in my opinion a fair cleanout above, it's doing the same thing, expecting different results.

I wish Joe luck.

Apparently, Tony Brown is shortly to be announced as the attack coach for the Springboks.

You can't read a hell of a lot into pre-season, however, the Highlanders handed up some pretty convincing hidings in the 3 matches they have played so far.  Quite a contrast to their last 3 seasons in general.

Lots is being made of Caleb Clarke dropping some weight and showing some good pre-season form, but it won't be enough on it's own. He seriously needs to add new tricks to his bag, he is pretty straight forward to tackle, and without a kicking or stepping game, he has out and out speed, which is far from as impressive as his debut season.  It's not an impossible task to usurp some of the up and coming and established backs, but personally, I don't think he has it in him.

Similar with DM, he is said to be the next great thing at 10, with no evidence to support that in his past as a test level 10. He's brave and unpredictable (though far less so since he was seeverely injured, understandably. He may get the Jersey, but I'll be surprised if he is the magician he can sometimes be at Super Rugby. I suspect he may end up our default 10 simply because we don't have anything better. It kinda snuck up on us that we didn't have the next great thing in the pipeline at 10.

I thought Razor came across well in the breakdown this week. Quite a shift for him to be looking at a bigger picture now.  He's been guilty of saying some things and doing some things he probably shouldn't have in the past, but he seems quite comfortable. Pressure isn't really on yet.

It's going to be really quite a contrast, the way he interacts with players whilst they are playing SR and the coaches, and the conflict between what the franchises needs vs what he needs from players at International level.
