Handle9: I'm still in disbelief about the way the subs were managed in that game. It's once of the strangest things I've seen in a while.

Yeah, I was puzzled by it too. The conclusion a lot of people seem to be drawing is that he didn't trust the bench. It doesn't feel consistent with the way he has coached until now.

If anything, I've seem him replace players earlier than I would have expected, though I think that he's been succesful when he has done that. He was pretty late replacing people the week prior as well.

My thought was he was hoping to tire the replacement SA players out so that he could massively increase the tempo, but it didn't happen either time.

I have confidence he will look at those decisions and adjust if they weren't the right ones.  People make mistakes.

The use, and performance of the bench, has been really poor all season outside of Barrett.

Taking off Telea and Jordan while Reese was having a stinker particularly stands out.

None of the wingers were great. I don't think Jordan was great at fullback either.

Telea and Jordan weren’t great. Reese was bad.

He’s completely out of control on the high ball, not for the first time and he got completely skinned on the outside by a hooker on his goal line.

If he gets run over there so be it but you can’t barely get a hand on Marx in the corner.

You saw Te'lea take a guy in a dangerous way that could easily have been a red card (not his first for this type of challenge it's worth noting) had the player landed differently, right?

I wouldn't wish cards on any player, but it was extremely surprising that wasn't reviewed. He was *very* fortunate.  Our players in general need to approach this part of the game much much more carefully.

Reece absolutely needs to be better. I don't disagree he had a poor game. I don't think he was significantly worse than Tele'a though who dropped a few balls.  I'd be interested to know to whom Reece was looking and communicating with at the point Marx split off and went into the corner.

I watched it in real time, and I definitely had no idea what happened initially, I had to go back and look. He absolutely should have been looking at the maul, but I think it's exceptionally unlikely any winger would have stopped Marx.

After Ellis Park, I had been in favour of Jordan moving to fullback and Barrett to the bench.  However, as soon as Clarke was ruled out, I think Razor was wrong to go ahead with that move.  We knew the aerial barrage was coming.  Clarke showed he's the best at dealing with that and I think Barrett is probably next best.  So losing both of them really exposed us - and that's how it played out.  The difference between the two teams in handling contestable kicks was possibly the biggest difference across all areas of the game.

Southland Canterbury was a most entertaining game. I am enjoying NPC more than test rugby and or Super Rugby for the first time in a while.

Geez. The Black Ferns did some really good things but they were really sloppy against England.

A more accurate side would have had a chance but in truth they looked outclassed at times.

At least they look like they can compete physically now. A few years ago they really didn’t.

Dropping Tale'a but keeping Reece.

I'm almost certain I called it but that's not much of an acheivement.

Thankfully, established AB's with a track record of performance aren't dropped quickly, which is probably a good thing, esp for players like Reiko.

Tele'a doesn't have the same track record.

It's paid dividends for players like Codie Taylor, Ethan Blackadder and others who have gone through a bit of a rough patch, but who are playing extremely well now.

2023 World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year does not have a good track record of performance.

Yeah, I really don't understand that call.  I'd initially thought maybe some niggle to Tale'a, but they haven't mentioned anything.

Compared to Reece? You'd expect a more experienced more consistent performer to get more chances, or are you advocating for something different?

Oh dear, here we go on a pages long argument about almost nothing.

Having said that Reece has 28 tests in and out of the team, while Tele'a has 15 - which include starting through the massively high pressure finals of the last World Cup.  So really in terms of experience there's not really much between them.

I though Reece played amazing for the Crusaders this year, but has not been great for the ABs.  The last test he was horrible.  Tele'a hasn't been that good either, but I'd have him ahead of Reece right now.  Obviously that's my personal opinion and plenty will disagree - presumably including Razor.
