It just gets more incestuous. Surrounding himself with yes men.

The funny part is how badly it shafts the Crusaders. Ellison was planned to succeed Penney in 26. Now they have no one and could be stuck with Penney.
Just an acknowledgement of how the Crusaders play doesn't actually matter anymore, they're still going to get top billing.

I actually agree that yet another Crusaders coach runs the risk of ending up with an echo chamber.
I wasn't aware it had been formally announced Tamati Ellison had been announced as taking over coaching the Crusaders, however, a lot of talent has been taken out of our coaching pool for the AB's and that does feel a bit unbalanced.
I guess we will see what shakes out over the next couple of months.
Black Ferns looked very good against France, though admittedly France didn't put up the same level of physicality as England did. It felt like whatever they had been trying against England, did work better against France, there was a noticeable increase in pace and physicality compared to other matches this tour.

It's been widely reported as the reason for Penney retaining his job. He certainly didn't keep it on performance.
I've done some searching tonight and can't see anything?
Maybe my Google fu is broken.

Canterbury, who looked exceptionally average last NPC, and not significantly better this year despite having many good players, looked frightening yesterday against Tasman. They are definitely peaking at the right time, though I don't believe it's a co-incidence the return of AB's to the team has helped a lot.
Two fullbacks for the future who look awesome are the Hawkes Bay full back Harry Godfrey looked absolutely magic, as did Issac Hutchinson.
I am even more convinced that Damien MacKenzies on Field kicking needs serious work after watching a fair amount of NPC and even the women's WXV over the past few weeks. Some of the kicking by fullbacks and 10's has been really quite excellent. Whilst I know it's a cardinal sin here to talk up a Crusader, one of Mo'ungas' points of difference was his touch finders. He occasionally made mistakes getting touch, but more often than not, he was making an extra 10-15m over others. That's a lot of ground to not have to cover in contact rugby.

'Widely reported' without any actual sources. Could be true, but logically, even if that was a loosely held plan, had Penney had 2 great years and wanted to stay on, are they going to fire him?
Since year one was was bad, maybe his fate is sealed, but I believe he deserves to have a crack with a fit squad of decent players and judge him on that.
Some of those articles are about as balanced as a one armed paper hanger on a ladder over a cliff, cherry picking facts to create a narrative. The chopping and changing of players was largely due to injury, though not all. Some were balance changes and some were performance based.
For the record, I am not suggesting I agreed with all his decisions, but I don't attribute them to stupidity either. We are desperately short of a decent option at 10. We were forced to throw people into action before they were ready.
It's reporting. They aren't going to name the people who are speaking to them off the record.
Penney has a Super Rugby record of 9 and 29 and left Munster when he lost the locker room.
You are what your results are, this isn't a small sample size problem.

It's a shame about those players, Jacobsen and Blackadder particularly as I think they were both playing well and would have been important to our ability to front up physically to NH Packs. DP doesn't really do it for me at test level, so I am less disappointed in that, but it will be horrible for him to miss out on what could have been a make or break tour for determining his role in the AB's moving forward.
Blackadder and Grace have been plagued with injuries.
Blackadder really is a waste of space. What's the point of picking a player who only has a 30% chance of being available each week?
They aren't travelling to Japan but may be available for England.
