Earbanean:

Yeah, I'm a fan of Gardner too, but I didn't think he had his best game on Saturday.  There were a few forward passes, etc missed, but I guess that happens.  However, I reckon refs are starting to get a bit OTT with the talking to the players.  Gardner (and others) are now actually praising them for just following the rules.  I number of times he even said "good listen", for players apparently doing something they were told.  I talk a bit like that when reffing U9, U10 juniors etc - but for test footy?

Yeah, I didn't think Gardener had a great game either to be fair. Forward passes have been something not picked up all of Super Rugby and Internationals this year, the AB's get away with it as much as anyone though. It's like it's been viewed as 'must be very forward'. Happens a lot in the forwards to forwards passes in tight.

Marler retires from international rugby. I won't miss him to be honest. Unfortunately, he will likely go on to be just as big of a big mouth as he always was.

The fact that referees need to constantly “coach” players on the field, even at the highest level, shows that the rules of rugby are too complicated and too open to interpretation. It would otherwise be a whistle-fest. Perhaps it should be. Then the rules might get changed.

In the 46th minute, one of the English forwards reached around the ruck and put his hands on the ball, preventing Ratima from clearing it. The ref yelled “No!” and the ball was released. But play was slowed by the action and it should have been penalised. Even the commentator remarked that it clearly should have resulted in a penalty advantage.

Losing BB for the next test against Ireland is a bit of a body blow.I thought he played a great game and showed a lot of options at 10 DMac doesn't seem to have and then created one of the tries and almost scored another if it hadn't been for the deliberate knock on.

Wildly unimpressed to have a chunk of my Sky Broadcast of the match on Sunday AM, blocked by a massive range rover ad.

I didn't watch it live but on the highlights (not from Sky) I found the television coverage was far better than what Sky normally provides using their own OB facilities (the channel logo showed TNT) and the commentary better than Sky's team.

I saw a small defender ad in the top right corner from time to time, was it something else?

Also Ireland have opened as large favs vs the AB's no surprises there though. Ireland $1.47 - New Zealand $2.60

I believe we should play a B team against Ireland given the 6 day turn around and send the rest ahead to France to prepare for that game

Let's face it, only dropping the one game to Ireland, the world number 1, on this end of year tour would be a massive success given where the ABs are.

I would say that referees “coach-himself-interpretation-rules”, this is why the rules are "different" from game to game. 😁😁😁

So, still an error ridden match, but it was overall, a good performance. It showed a bit of the grit and determination we have come to expect, and pretty much, the entire match we looked in control of winning.

Our discipline was pretty reasonable. Ireland should have been carded when after a warning, they had a third high tackle offense. Could have got one when we were hot on attack just outside their 22 toward the end of the game.

I thought Berry had an extremely average performance.

It was satisfying to win by a decent margin after so much keeps being made of Ireland. It was also nice to backup a good RWC performance against them esp at home.
