itxtme: No the selection of a RWC team should not be decided on the water boy defusing a punch up.. Yes dumb, but the conclusions you have reached based on this is lunacy.  When has he had problems with anger?  He has had issues this season with fringe play, and being repeatedly penalised.

When I have made similarly "biased" comments about Dagg you have accused me of denial. Perhaps it's a time for you to take a look in the mirror. Do we need "dumb" players at the RWC when there are equally good players who aren't "dumb" (I think you are being incredibly generous), fit and ready to go? What does he add that someone else couldn't? It's not like
with Coles where there are next to no other players at his level. Vito did an outstanding job last weekend, and played well for the Hurricanes all season. If form is important to you, which it certainly seems to be, Messam wouldn't be included.

PS Daggs rapping is about as good as his form this year.  Given your comment about the last 2 weeks, and and the fact he hasnt played in those 2 weeks, the only reasonable conclusion is that you have realised he has been surpassed by other players.  Welcome to the sane train.

Haters gonna hate. Let me know when you can do better.

I'm still hopeful for Dagg being at the RWC, but if he doesn't go, life will go on. My back three would still be Savea, Dagg and Ben Smith. I'd rather have Ben Smith on the right wing than NMS esp for bigger games, even though NMS has had a few great games for the AB's so far. I don't read much into the fact he didn't play the last 2 weeks, otherwise Soponga would be written off too.

I'm still keen to see Stats for Dagg for the SR15 but I can't find anything. Especially around missed tackles etc.If you can find some, I'd honestly quite like to see them (I would like to see that for lots of players actually).

AS, TJP and Brad Weber (Based on Form TKB isn't ready), and Ellis as a 4th choice (Since if I picked him Third I'll get Lynched!).

I think AS is our DC for this RWC, if he gets injured, we have a reasonable reason to feel panicked.

Hey I am no Messam fan, I just dont think that water-boy incident has anything to do with anger issues.  He has infringement issues, ones that could prove too costly.  I agree Victor deserves his spot.  I wouldnt lynch you for putting AE in as 3rd, he has superior experience and game time.

Daggs stats are fine in super rugby, for all 5 games..

5 tackles
1 missed
83.3% success

Add in the 2 rugby championship games and...

3 tackles
3 missed
50% success rate

You can find stats on games at Haka or the Herald has good comparison stats on players

He needs to be getting involved. I think the reason he isn't, is that he is still comparatively unfit.

I've never found any stats on penalties given to players and what they are for. I'll check out Haka. Thanks.

Messam is an angry guy in general, I believe. It may not be anger that took him into the fight but it was poor judgement (Impulse Control) which ultimately we can't afford. In most businesses if you poor judgement cost your employer $2000, you'd be looking at serious disciplinary action, and perhaps he will with the AB's too.

I'd personally take Ellis though I do acknowledge he isn't as fast as most of the other half backs, I think he is very smart. He ran riot last ITM season for Canterbury, which I do understand is not test Rugby. I think we are well catered for in 9's though there is a gulf between our 1 and 2, and a big gulf between our 2 and anything else.

Whilst we are all seriously debating each others selection choices so vehemently here is a timely reminder (for myself as well) on what the spirit of sport is all about :

Some of the players in contention for a AB's position that aren't set in concrete have made reasonably compelling cases over the weekend. Soponga helped Southland to Victory, and Dagg got a Hat Trick for Hawkes Bay.

oh, and the heartbreak the nation suffered with DC each time, bang on, every 4 years, i hope he gets through unscathed, third time lucky. well he was unscathed the first time actually, just got caught with brain failure along with 14 other guys against France.

Both played against  fairly weak sides (pains me to say it as an Otago fan)
I guess Dagg & Sopoaga can only play who is put in front of them, but don't believe too much can be read into those performances.

Dagg scored one decent try, the other 2 were pretty weak from Otago - and I would have expected him (or any FB / wing ) to score those.
Sopoaga turned the ball over 3 times from 12 carries, but being a Highlanders fan, still want him to be included.

I just don't see it this time - they have DC, plus the versatility of Slade + Barrett, with ben smith holding the FB role.
We won't know which way Hansen & Co are leaning until Sunday.

Dagg may go, but unsure how the coaches will play it - we have a weak pool, so plenty of games to mix it up. (so to speak)

I can't see Slade being unsurped by Soponga honestly, esp if they take only 2 half backs, but even without that, he is so versatile. If it came to a choice between Slade and Barrett, I'd say Barrett will get the nod.

I still think Dagg will get the nod, but I expect it to be a fairly close call. If he doesn't, I'd expect him to be on a plane at the first sign of a backs injury as the next cab off the rank.

Here's the squad.

Beauden Barrett, Sam Cane, Daniel Carter, Dane Coles, Wyatt Crockett, Charlie Faumuina, Malakai Fekitoa, Owen Franks, Ben Franks, Jerome Kaino, Tawera Kerr-Barlow, King Richie McCaw, Keven Mealamu, Liam Messam, Nehe Milner-Skudder, Waisake Naholo, Ma'a Nonu, TJ Perenara, Kieran Read, Brodie Retallick, Luke Romano, Julian Savea, Colin Slade, Aaron Smith, Ben Smith, Conrad Smith, Codie Taylor, Victor Vito, Sam Whitelock, Sonny Bill Williams, Tony Woodcock

Dagg, Jane, Piatau, Sopoaga miss out.

TKB is the biggest "wrong" call for me, but they can obviously see something with him, I haven't been seen. Have to trust a brains trust with such a good record. Naholo is a real brain ache for me, can't get taking the risk of a guy who has played 60 minutes and has a broken leg. I presume they have scanned and tested him, but I am a little dubious.

Also surprised Messam gets named instead of a 4th lock.
