trig42: Re the Camera work. Pretty awful (compared to Southern Hemisphere coverage anyway).
Bad camera angles, I thought I missed a bit this morning because we were watching a lineout from the touchline, from an angle amongst other things.
Missed a couple of lineouts altogether.

I agree, there were also a couple of restarts we didn't get to see because they were showing the previous play. I think the overall camera work in most games I've watched has pretty average really compared to what we are used to here.

joker97: Ah, that's not what "sent off" refers to :)
Or maybe I'm confused.
Sent off = red card
Sin binned = yellow

You are confused. Sent off is not a technical term. It's a way to describe a player leaving the field for any disciplinary breach. Can be yellow (10) or red (rest of the game) depending on the infringement level.

in rule 10.6 in page 74 sent off refers to a red card and a red card only

Well I apologize, it clearly is a technical term. Corrects my understanding. I am certain I have heard commentators talking about players being sent off to sit in the sin bin, but perhaps my memory is failing me.

When I think about it, yes I recall this too, very annoying.

itxtme: Hmm, yea just watched the highlights on youtube and he had good carries especially second half.  One thing the highlights do show is that Barnes will allow a team to consistently slow the ruck ball as long as its far enough away from the scoring line (at which point he will Yellow card).

The penalty count in that regard for them was prolific, and means yes 3 points but then the loss of territory and potential of a higher scoring opportunity.  Ths wouldnt be such a big* deal if the AB's could dominate possession, but against Argentina, this isnt possible.  It has to be a fair and comparable contest, and in that regard I think we were hard done by.

watched the first half again. someone (can't find who it was) was right! there was a very slow prop who was slow to tackle, and then turns to slow motion when he tries to get up, and then walk back behind the offside line, takes a few seconds to position, and then the next tackle is even slower!

the other thing is i also saw that without the TMO Wayne Barnes is pretty average. He failed to spot the RM trip, until the TMO told him. I hope the TMO is consistent, and will "tell on" every important offense. that's only one. he usually gets the 50-50 decisions wrong. but so do the top refs I must say, they have a split second to rule. both teams toe the line very super close. unfortunately someone loses out when that happens. maybe the rules need changing to be clearer. eg i refer to the DC penalty kick right on half time.
- black got tackled. 2 blues: 1 the tackler tries to roll away but 3 black guys jump on top of him. as this is happening 2nd blue is frantically trying to rip the ball off the tackled black who is holding on.
- blue fault: can't roll away
- black fault: holding on to ball, 3 big fellas "fell on the ground" which technically is diving on the ball

penalty against blue. face palm.

Arise Sir Sam, our new captain!

I wonder if it has any bearings on life after Richie.

On second thoughts, I'd say, yeah 100%

I was quite surprised at this. I don't in theory object to it, if it's one or two games. I would have a more serious problem if he was to become the new permanent captain after Richie, overlooking the much more obvious and experienced Kieran Reid.

I suspect he will be deputy and moved into the full captains role if he does a good job, in a year or two.

Ultimately though, I trust Steve Hansens Judgement.

Its like bringing on rookies late in, when the match is won, for experience. The game against Namibia is already won, so its a great opportunity for Cane to show his wares, albeit under no result pressure

That's on the assumption that Kieran Read will have role after the World Cup.

Hence the IF in my statement. Realistically I am unsure if Sam Cane would have the full support and confidence of the more senior players automatically the way Kieran Reid appeared to, but time will tell. I was quite surprised when Richie was named captain so young, but it seemed pretty obvious
within 2-3 games he was the right guy for the job.

My thoughts exactly. Whilst I'd think it unlikely in the extreme we would lose, I'll be fairly concerned if we don't put forward a polished 60 points at least on them.

Actually, when I think about it, if we can put 50 on Australia, perhaps 80?

Yes but if you are on the all blacks you are expected to play like an all black, and what a great time to showcase what the B team is made of

Whilst all the attention is on Richie for being a cheat, I watched the Wales game last night and Sam Walburton put a foot into touch with ball in hand looked down, saw it, and then continued to play. They were already on Uraguays 5m mark, and they were putting all manner of pressure on them (Thought to be fair Uraguay looked awesome for reasonably long periods). Was unnecessary.

Thankfully a touch judge saw it.

Yes I now am certain that fairplay spirit does not exist anymore. Ok, maybe it does, but less often than not.

Japan fought bravely, but they just didn't quite have the same accuracy or bite, though I was impressed they did fight and put some serious phases together. I felt they were a little hard done by a few times, and got away with a couple of pretty "flat" passes, but Scotland should have had a guy in the bin at 60 minutes when Japan was camped on their line.

I think 4 days is a huge ask, and they held their own for 45-50 minutes.

Scotland looked very good in the first 20, and their kicker was pretty accurate.
