The pool of death could severely weaken the triumphant out of that group. What a shame!

AB's saying they have been told to treat every game like a Tier 1 Knockout match. If this is true, they will put 120 points on Namibia, but I suspect they won't hammer them as hard as they possibly can, though they should.

Just watched Australia vs Fiji. Australia look fearsome! I am really starting to worry about Pocock and Hooper, those two turned over so much ball. If our forwards don't clean out well enough and if we don't attack with support, we are gonna be in trouble.

Let's worry about Australia when we need to face them. For now, I'm worried about our number 10. Of course he is very welcome to prove me wrong.

What an absolute rubbish game. Didn't realize this was an individual sport. So frustrating as a NZ fan. So many plays SHOULD'VE been finished off had it not been for individual players trying to go for glory. Credit to Namibia they did what they shouldn't have been able to do and score a try against us.

Savea is still out of form and now deserves to be dropped despite scoring a couple of tries. Slade was lost and quite rubbish (went off quite early so don't know if it was injury related). Not sold at all on either Perenara or TKB, they are miles behind Smith in all aspects.

SBW, Barrett, NMS and Cody Taylor all proved they can play so they're a few positives.

I know you shouldn't take too much away from this game, but this one and the last one have proven to me that NZ won't win this cup. In fact if we get Ireland in the quarters I won't be surprised to see us fall then.

I personally think that if we were peaking for the early pool stages then we would be in trouble. In the last world cup I recall just two games where we played very well - the pool game vs France, and the semi vs Australia. We did still win however.

The fact is you can't peak for every single game in the tournament and we won't really know how we are tracking until the first hard game which is vs Ireland or France in 3 weeks time.

It was a rubbish game.

BUT

It was the first game for most of the team.

They didn't need to play brilliantly to win, getting up for this game would have been harder than for Argentina, or France/Ireland.

They still have 2 weeks before they need to start peaking, and then they have to maintain that peak for (hopefully) three weeks. A 5 week peak would be too much.

I hadn't even realized Slade was in the team until the camera focused on him early in the second half.
Savea really needs to find some form
SBW showed his class, and will push Nonu for a starting spot in the knockout games - this is good, both will be pushing hard.
Fekitoa played well I thought.

The Forwards looked OK, not spectacular, but the opposition dictated how well they needed to play.

The most important thing, no-one broke.

One must not read too much into this game.

You can't put together a B team in a World Cup match and expect them to play like a well oiled machine. Even if the B team would make the A in any other squad. That's because to play like a team you need to play as a team many times. This is their first time.

Comments on individuals I have no comments. Certain people flourish in certain situations. Only SH knows those little secrets.

I think we do have some big problems. Disagree about Slade. BB kicking is a problem from further out.

Our biggest two problems right now, is we are very poor under the high ball. Seriously. We have massive exposure here.

Secondly, Savea has lost his confidence. He had his worst game ever today. He gets the ball and runs straight regardless, doesn't see how much space he has and run inward if he is near the touchline. He reminds me of DC a few months back. The coaches need to take him aside and clear his head as they did with DC.

Our passes are also concerning me. They are passing fast which is good, but again not deep enough by possibly 1m and rush defense causes us to either take the tackles in a non defensive way which is making us get smashed (Leaving us exposed to the 7's and 6's from the opposing teams), or we are making marginal passes, which aren't going to hand frequently enough.

Our B team looked decidedly B and I agree about TKB/TJP they aren't a patch on AS. We have too many half backs trying to emulate AS, I actually think a slower passer like AE would give us something different on the field. I am not sure our up pace game is working for us as well as it should and I don't think we are setting a platform before going wide.

We easily should have put another 20 points on them. I am a little embarrassed. I suspect SH will be doing some very stern talking.

There was one try we fluffed I think was particularly bad. We had a massive overlap commentators were going on and on about how certain the try was and we didn't score it. Poor decision making not to pass one wider, in favour of trying for himself.

I don't know about this talk of peaking, I don't think we need to peak to put 80 points on Namibia.

In a knockout match, at the first whistle either side can win it.

Then they both flex their muscles.

By half time, one of them would look a bit better.

By 60 mins, the team behind would show whether they have a chance of coming back.

At 70 mins, if the team ahead has more than a converted try in front, they are nearly there. The team behind has a lot to do.

By 75 mins, we should know the winner depending on the score. If the points difference is 7 or less, it's anybody's game still.

Nothing else matters in a knockout match.

Thing is, you can't have 23 players on form coming to start a match. Someone is guaranteed to be out of sorts. The coach gives a game plan, individual tasks, to counter the opposition. THe opposition does the same. If all they want to do is bomb our back 3, then we just need to cope. I agree, if all they want to do is bomb, then Dagg would be perfect. He can just take and kick it out. But there are other ways of playing. And I agree, usually when we take a bomb BS more often than not sends a bomb back somewhere at halfway. I think that's crazy in a knockout match.

I don't expect perfection, but I certainly expect better than today. Namibia gifted us possession over and over again and we really didn't capitalize. I get the feeling we have better coming, I'll keep the faith, but I am still concerned.

Wins a Win. Namibia took us out of the game by slowing everything down, they really should have seen more penalties for it too.

we should not start any peaking process until Tonga. What is the point of showing all your trade secrets before you need to?

I predict another messy display by a second string side agaisnt Georgia.
PS - I wonder if Slade will do 10 or at least be given full kicking duties and Barrett play 15.

And then if SH is smart he will start the best 15 every match from Tonga.

Even then, you can play the perfect 15 in the QF against Ireland. And still lose.

Wow, after reading some of the comments I was expecting it to be an absolute horrible rugby display from the AB's but was pleasantly surprised.  They put in some good dominant long phase play and the score I feel reflected their dominance.

Firstly this Namibian team is full of professional players that play in European leagues and Super rugby not to mention the Curry cup.  They tackled well, and you cant take that away from them.  Secondly the game was full of so many restarts it was impossible to get a higher score than we did.  Knock-ons + mandatory 2-3 scrum resets followed by us dominating their scrums and then taking another scrum which is then reset 2-3 times.  Win scrum penaltys and opt to take another scrum...

Also the hands at ruck time were quite unbelievable, I think they were very lucky to be only down to 14 men.

I thought Savea played well at times, and is improving into form.  His gathering under the up and under (when we have kicked it through) is frustrating and lead to 3-4 scrum resets (see above).  Some of his running gains were fantastic and I actually feel its a step forward for him.  Would be interested to know what was so terrible about his game to make it his "worst ever"??

TJP was solid, wasnt remarkable but felt he didnt play poorly.  Kerr barlow on the other hand is far behind.  Bad choices, running when he should be passing kicking when he should be distributing.  Not a great game for him

High ball wasnt an issue, we regathered all kicks that were sent to us, certainly lost some kicking possession away (thats pretty standard).  Think we maybe lost one at kick off.  Again not sure why there is a need to panic here.

Standouts for me was Barrets 1st half effort, SBW & NMS had fantastic games.  If SBW can carry this form into a teir 1 match up he can guarantee his place in the play offs above Feketoa; but its the big teams he struggled against this year so we will see I guess.

All in-all a good game and a good platform to move forward with.
