The convicts were impressive - the forwards especially. Excellent low body positions going into contact, first support player super quick, good ruck cleanouts, dominance at scrum time and clearly more physically fit than the opposition.

Why we will win the world cup: our bench
Why we will lose the world cup: the breakdown is being refereed in favour of the defending team/slowing ball down which we often struggle with, especially given mccaw is a yard slower than he used to be.

Wow what a display by Australia! Made the English look like cart horses in the end.
I will be interested to see if Hooper gets cited for his first half shoulder charge.
No doubt the press will question the yellow card, but if Farrell hadn't been yellow carded Burgess would have been.

No. Why we will lose the world cup. If our 10 doesn't fire. It goes like this: forwards Foo their job to get go forward ball. 9 gets it to 10. It's up to 10 from there. And 10 needs to kick goals on top of that. It's quite simple in knockout footy really.

Not that difficult. If you can't play free flowing rugby (well, you can't in a proper knockout, seriously), you need to control territory with kicking. Perhaps that's what Hansen means by they didn't want to give anything away before it needs to. I think DC has it in him to kick for territory like he used to.

I wonder if Cheiks will play team Quade against Wales. Thing is, whoever tops pool A won't have to face SA or NZ until the final. Whoever is second faces SA and NZ sequentially.

I have a feeling Hooper will have a date with the judiciary for that clear out of the ruck.  Might be worth more than 1 weeks ban too - dirty.

Not legal, but I'm not sure of intent, he just reacted in the heat of the moment, maybe after seeing a heavy tackle on his team mate.

But yes he should be cited, let's see.

The type of ball the 10 gets determines what can be done with it. If we are constantly getting static ruck ball against a quick defensive line it doesn't matter how good the 10 is, unless maybe he is going to do a chip or grubber play which is pretty low percentage. If we want to win games emphatically we need quick ruck ball or turnover ball.

But generally the referees are pretty lenient on teams creeping up offside (as long as you do it as a team) and slowing the ball down so it could come down to goal kicking again.

But who knows, maybe it will be the best RWC ever in spite of the fact the host nation didn't make it to the knock out stage.

Maybe. Probably. His problem is he did it with high intensity from so far back. That sort of thing (shoulder clearout) happens every game but it's not normally as obvious/blatant so it doesn't stick out and doesn't get picked up.

They could have easily both had yellow cards. Romain Poite's communication about the Farrell card wasn't great - I didn't even hear him mention to Robshaw that it had no arms, he just said it was late.

I'm scared of Foley. I'd hate to lose by scoring more tries but seeing him nail every conversion and silly penalty. His kicking is awesome

His kicking is not awesome, it's very normal for a top team's kicker to get most shots in. They usually average between 80-85% in test matches.

Foley's max distance from stand still is around 40m. He can't take 40m drop goals (well I have not seen him attempt any). That's why he's not awesome. The awesome kickers easily nail 55m static kicks, and average over 50% from 40m drop goals. Those ones you fear. Luckily there aren't any of those around this time round.

They all seemed down the middle, no hook, no slice. I consider that awesome. Plus his percentage off course. That makes me feel it's going to be a kicking game we won't want them in our half. So a 27-24 game become a 10-8 game

No I'm not a rugby head like some here but that's how I see it

Well Colin Slade better practice. He's the most accurate kicker out of the 31 in our squad. Problem is ... he hasn't played much since then end of the regular super 15 season. I think he played one test as kicker. That's it. One test. But I bet he'd still kick better than the other 2 if he gets some practice. I dare not think what would happen if DC misses the first 3 penalties and Slade is brought in at the 30th minute to start kicking to chase the scoreboard ...
