Not sure if anyone saw the Redbull Rampage this past weekend, but wow!
Some of those freeriding guys are just mad.

Judging was very controversial, the public not agreeing at all with who won and the placings for each of the top competitors, but I don't watch it for that...I watch for the big stunts and the even bigger crashes (of which there were some absolute doozies!)

Enjoy the highlights:

That's the trouble with judged competition where it just comes down to the personal preferences of the judges.  Not gonna please everyone.

Racing is easier to "judge".  Were you faster or not?

I won't post this in the bargain forum as there is only limited stock left.

If anyone is looking for a new bike GPS computer and you don't absolutely have to have the latest and greatest then Torpedo7 Botany are clearing the last remaining Edge 530 computers for $285 as the MTB bundle.

https://www.torpedo7.co.nz/products/GMCUGN9JC/title/garmin-edge-530-gps-mtb-bundle

I picked 1 up this afternoon and there were another 3 left along with a couple of 830 bundles at ~$335. I believe from the website that there is also a few left in the Wanaka store. Only available in store, not on-line. Couldn't even do click and collect.

I've been keeping my eye on these 2nd hand on Facebook and Trademe since the 540/840 were release but most people were still asking $450-$500 for them 2nd hand.

Wow, I picked mine up from Evo a few months back on clearance for double that and that was "a good price" then.  Went 530 instead of the current model for price and that there wasn't anything in the newer one that seemed to be essential over the 530.

So...there hasn't been much activity here for a few months.

Did anyone get a new ride over the Holidays?

Go anywhere interesting with their bike?

Do any riding of note?

The most I did was get new brake rotors and a couple of trips to Woodhill and Riverhead.

I was in Canada playing in the snow, not on bike.  Haven't done a lot on the bike since, just some low intensity training rides.

More focused on Tarawera Ultra in 3 weeks, then it'll be fully focused on building up for the Faultline 160km MTB race two months later.  So there will be a large quantity of riding but hopefully nothing spectacular. :-)

My wife and I got out on the some of the Waikato river trails over the break which was good. One day we decided to spoil ourselves and rented a couple of e-Bikes just to see what they were like. What a game changer, for people who are (or have) entered our 50's an e-bike is an awesome piece of technology.

Now I just need to find someone who wants a slightly abused kidney on the black market so we can afford them. The bikes we rented were KTMs with the latest Gen 4 Bosch Performance Line motors and retail around $7,500 each.

I was looking at the lastest KTM with all the fruit a couple of days ago.

An eye-watering $24k

I'm sticking with a steam bike for a while longer.

Has anyone shipped a bike within NZ recently as I can't seem to find a courier that will take bike boxes?

Most will not accept over 1.5 metres and a miniscule volume, way below a typical box size. Very few actually allow non-business customers. and generally make life difficult.

It's been awhile since I've shipped a whole bike, I have a case I use for flying with it.
Best bet is to ask your local shop. They may charge a bit more but it depends if you box it up yourself and drop it off or not.

There's a specialist bike (and over-sized package) shipper that pops up on Facebook from time to time.
I'll see if I can find the details and I'll post them here.

That would be appreciated as I don't do FB.
