For the life of me I simply can't find the details anywhere.

I did have a bike transported from Wellington to Auckland by Capital Cycles once - I contacted them for it and then got the seller to take it in and they packaged it up and sent it to me.

From memory it was about $150 all up including labour to dismantle, prepare and box the bike as well as the shipping costs.

Thanks Handsomedan, I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't find something they saw ages ago. It's a plot I tell you, a wicked plot! 😀 Yes there is the LBS route, but I would prefer not to do that if I can get around it - it's not really their job.

I seem to remember the last time I did this I was given the phone number of the local courier driver who priced it, but cannot remember what company it was, but I'll keep digging.

Did anyone get a new ride over the Holidays?

Go anywhere interesting with their bike?

Do any riding of note?

The most I did was get new brake rotors and a couple of trips to Woodhill and Riverhead.

Took my bike to Adelaide to ride for a week in January and watch the Tour Down Under, also purchased a new Chapter2 Aero bike frame while I was there, turned into a much more expensive trip than I'd planned 😁

I got out to Woodhill Forest for the first time in a little while on Sunday.

Nice to get out on the bike, but the trail I most enjoy was sectioned off (assumedly that was the spot where the person died a week and a half or so ago).

I forgot how arduous some of the climbs are out there and as many older riders (like myself and my friend I was riding with) rode past on eBikes with not a care in the world, I realised how much I want one.

It's all fine and well having a normal bike, if you're fit and able to cope - in the heat and humidity, we were dying. eBikes would've allowed us to still get out there and get plenty of exercise, but maybe get a few extra laps in and explore parts of the forest we otherwise avoid due to the "if you go down, you have to come back up" rule. Some of those climbs out of the good trails right out the back of the bike park are steep!

It's kind of a Redundancy/Divorce present to myself so it'll be all new parts going on and I think the official term is a "shit ton" of money 🤣

Not sure how I've missed this thread before. I do a LOT of cycling (100-140km a a week), have three bikes currently that cover the bases well.

22 Trek Rail 9.8XT - For majority of adventure riding, long days in the hills 50-70km rides etc

2017 Kona Operator - For the Christchurch Adventure Park

And a 2016 Giant XTC carbon hardtail. Converted it to 1x11 and added a lot of carbon parts. I use it to cycle to work or the pub or anything else XC related.

Sorry I haven't posted ITT for a while. I've had my cycling ups and downs in the past year. I started off with a hiss and a roar, commuting to work on the road bike and MTB action in between. Then my place of work moved and I had some MTB hardware failures so in the middle of the year there was a significant lull.

In all, I managed to ride slightly more than the year before. According to the app:

Rides 68

Distance 620 km

Climb 21,167 m

Descent 22,511 m

Moving Time 65h 11m

Trails 181

In bad news, our local bike shop closed. I was spoilt having a bike shop 300m away from home. The former owner sold it about 2-3 years ago and the new owner couldn't keep it going.

I was a bit shocked to hear about the woodhill fatality - anyone know if it was crash related or was it something like a medical incident?

An e-MTB bike is tempting but I need all the exercise I can get :-)

Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21

Haha, thats a pretty common misconception. I thought the same until I purchased one, I did 2,550km on the Rail in the first 12 months. What ends up happening is you'll ride lots more because its so much more fun than a standard bike. You'll get the exercise and some, if your not then just turn the mode down. My HR stats (average & Max) are almost identical on 3-4km climbs with 450m elevation. You just get there faster

My son got out on the trails yesterday for the first time since he shattered his collarbone in August.

Didn't go with him as I was working, but he went with a friend who took a bit of video of him. Apparently he was taking it easy. Still way better than me.

Hopefully he'll stay right side up from now on.

Talking about eBikes - I was perusing what I can't afford yesterday while on a teleconference that bored me to tears.

Came across the Polygon Collosus N8E.

Man, you get some serious value for money here!

Polygon Collosus N8E Metallic Brown

Fox Suspension (38's up front and Float X2 out back), full XT groupset including brakes and 630Wh battery, with full-power Shimano EP801 motor.

That's a lot of bike for $8k full price or (as was recently advertised) $6500 on sale.

The smaller travel T7E and T6E are even more value for money, if you only want a trail bike as opposed to a full Enduro platform.

Compare that to Giant, Trek and Specialised and you are saving a few thousand easily...assuming you can get one - they seem to sell out quickly.

Would the T6E be better than a Giant Stance E+ 2? They both seem to be around 5-6k. I don't know much about bikes but I'm looking at them, I have trails near my house but would want an e bike as I live on a large hill.

Woodhill is a bit punchy like that. If you drop down the fun side you know you have to come back up.
I've really noticed how much my fitness drops off now. If I don't touch the bike for three weeks it sometimes feels like I'm back to square one. I really do have to make an effort. Last year was my biggest year on the mountain bike too at 1000kms and yet it vanishes so quickly
