Would the T6E be better than a Giant Stance E+ 2? They both seem to be around 5-6k. I don't know much about bikes but I'm looking at them, I have trails near my house but would want an e bike as I live on a large hill.

T6E has some compromises, but is largely on-par with (if not slightly better than) a Stance E

The Stance is a little flexy if you're heavier and/or doing slightly more demanding stuff, but ois otherwise a very good bike.

THe Polygon is always going to offer more bang for buck, but is heavier and they also have a lot of "entity" kit onboard (which is the Polygon in-house equipment), so they keep their cost down that way.

Personally, if I was looking at either of those, I'd try to get a T7E on a deal, as it's just the next step up in motor and battery, with similar, but marginally higher spec.

T7E is specced with SLX rather than Deore, but that's not really too much of an issue if you're not too hardcore - Deore is good stuff.

I'm a bit funny with e-bikes. At this stage friend's who get them tend to migrate away from the group. I'd like to mountain bike as long as possible but I don't see the ebike is a natural evolution. I think I'll do other things once I can't ride. For me it's a bit like golf, more isn't necessarily better. For me two rounds of golf per week would be perfect, but I don't want to play every day. That's kind of how I see my riding. I don't want to do it everyday.

Now if you want one to keep with a kid, or your spouse to keep up with you or vice versa, or just plain want one I have no issue. It's just the insistence that it's almost exactly the same just better that I get frustrated with.

I didn't buy one because I couldn't ride a normal bike anymore, far from it. I got one because it opens up a lot more adventure riding, old ghost road, poulter valley, Cragieburn valley are just a few of the full day rides I have done on mine. On a standard bike those are multi day trips, staying in Huts etc. Physically and timeliness for me, its the fact I can do 2 - 3 times as much distance in the same time. I get home from work and want to do a quick climb to the top of the port hills and blast down home through a DH lap in victoria park, what used to take 2 to 2.5 hours now can be done in less than 60 mins.

EMTB's especially are the future, the fact they are easily outselling non-electric bikes in most places around the world goes to show how quickly technology takes over. Lots of market in the 30's and 40's age range too

I'm with @JPNZ

I'm still capable of riding an analogue bike and still do but after my one day of renting an e-Bike I'm sold. The fact that I can still get good exercise in while covering considerably more ground in the same or less time is an absolute winner. For my use case (and my wife's) I'm not really looking for a full suspension e-bike but rather a hardtail on 29's that's suited for rail trails, gravel etc.

I'm under no allusions - I want one because I hate the climbs and I don't live near a DH park with lift access. I don't want an eBike for it to be exactly the same.

If I lived in Queenstown or Vegas I'd exclusively ride a DH rig.

As it stands, my Superenduro long-travel bike is my one-bike-quiver. I can't yet afford a good eBike that would suit my riding syle and needs.
I'd want at a minimum a 140/150 trail or 160/160 enduro eBike and they don't come cheap. My bike is years old, but well maintained and does me OK, but boy I envy those guys that whizz past me uphill, while I walk mine up the vast majority of the climbs.

And those are perfect uses, friends have done Old Ghost in a day on normal bikes. I don't anyone who has been able to do Old Ghost with one battery, a second has always been needed.

And the bigger issue for me, I live in the North Island, so can't fly anywhere with it. I usually ride in Nelson a few times a year as well as Queenstown. So I can't use it then.

It's certainly opened up a whole new market of riders who may not have bought a mountain-bike. What the effects of this are remain to be seen. I certainly have my thoughts on it, but it's hard to articulate without coming across as gatekeeping. As for outselling normal bikes, I'm not sure. I'd say there is more of a market for a $10K e-bike than there is for a $10k normal bike. But I feel there could be an element of one and done for a lot of the purchases if typical age is anything to go by.

Anyway I've probably stirred the pot a bit much!

Just wondering whether anyone here is missing GCN+ for cycle event streaming, and has found a simple alternative? It seems that there is a shortage of options that don't involve VPNs, and the challenge of paying for an overseas service with a non-resident credit card, while running the risk they'll simply block known VPN IPs.

GCN+ was great (although it's Android app wasn't perfect) as it was affordable, simple and totally legit, with all content except that which Sky NZ were broadcasting available on an NZ internet connection. Warner bought GCN+, and it seems bundled it into Discovery+ somehow, with the need to then by a further subscription for their sports service Max. Fine if you live in the US or some of Europe, but of no use to those of us in Asia/Pacific who can't get Discovery+ and/or Max.

My dad upgraded to an ebike at age 72. He's now 75 and wondering why parts are wearing out when he's doing 3000+km a year. He's still fit and active enough that he doesn't "need" an ebike but it's sure getting the use.
He finished the Taupō Cycle Challenge 60km mtb event 12 minutes behind me and I was pushing hard on my Trek Slash. He liked like he'd had a nice cruise in the country trails at the finish.

For me personally, I don't see the point of motor assist. I'm using the bike for training and events as a cross training for Ultra Running. To get the same training benefit, I would just end up going further in a training ride. The extra distance numbers don't add the value that I need from them other than an arbitrary high score.

I'll certainly reassess the bike type in some years time as I'm getting older (50 this year) and the motor assist becomes the difference between riding and not. But for now, and hopefully the next 25 years, analogue it will be.

I only used GCN+ for DH world cups. Now GCN is dead I'll be waiting patiently to find out whether sky picks some UCI events up or how we will be able to watch in NZ.

You’d have barely seen them as they were using the forest loop

We were shuttling Saturday and Sunday then hired emtbs for Monday. Did 45km and 1560 meters elevation on the emtb, will definitely be buying one to compliment my mtb at some point

Yeah I'm the same. Just got pinged for a month's sub from GCN so a good reminder to have gone in and cancelled it permanently.

Was that at the Millar Road check point before the out and back to Okataina? I wasn't running but my wife and I went down to support those that were running. We spent a bit of time at Blue Lake before moving up Boyes Beach on lake Okareka before finally moving to the finish line for Dan, Ruth and tha other front runners. We stayed around until ~10pm.

Pity your day didn't go as planned.
