Yabanize: A little bit off topic, But Dotcom tweeted earlier

@KimDotcom: New extradition hearing date 16 Feb 2015 Still didn't receive a copy of my seized data. That's the data the FBI shipped to the US illegally

He keeps getting the date pushed back. I wish we could just get it over and done with.

Probably because they're not giving him a copy of the information they obtained illegally and shouldn't have in the first place? Do you not believe he should have a fair trial?

Your hero worship of dotCom is quite frightening.  It's a pity that you don't put the same energy into genuine NZ innovators.

Their likelihood of getting any kind of vote from me took another* dive when I found out the OP from this thread is their candidate for Taranaki\ King Country.

Wow, he comes across as a complete BS-artist in that thread. First sentence "I don't usually write stories about myself, prefer to leave that for others to do".  Think of a word that rhymes with "merchant banker".  Then goes on to say how cool wireless internet via satellite would be.  Hello?  Latency?  As someone whose daily job involves satellite IP links to mobile platforms (because there is no other option) I can tell you I won't be giving up my VDSL for satellite until someone changes either the speed of light or the geostationary orbit height.

Talking of ex-union leaders, I heard her on the radio a few mornings ago.  Would have been more pleasant listening to someone's fingernails scraping along a ten-km blackboard

"FBI says the data is digital we didnt steal it we just copied it" Pretty ironic considering its a copyright case

also, he knows less than nothing about broadband (by that I mean, what he thinks he knows is just plain wrong, so it's worse than just knowing nothing)

for example:

http://spoonfed.spoonitnz.com/news/Archive-February-16th-2014.html

"

  • DSL - DSL is purely a phone jack in your home's wall with a phone cable connected to your computer. A DSL connection dials up a phone ring tone (beep, beep beep beep, beeeeep...). DSL is the slowest out of NZ home cabled connection types and is often unreliable taking many attempts / hours to connect.
  • ADSL - ADSL is a broadband version of DSL. ADSL requires a connection box. The phone cable runs into the ADSL connection box and then a second cable (ethernet) runs from the connection box to your computer. ADSL is much more stable and allot faster than DSL. For simple Internet Browsing, checking eMails, going to TradeMe, ADSL is more than enough and is cheap.
  • ADSL2+ - New computer and internet technologies allowed for the upgrade of ADSL to ADSL2+ without the need of a home line upgrade. ADSL2+ is considerably faster than standard ADSL and because it is also cheap is the recommended. Most companies now run ADSL2+ as their standard Broadband connection. ADSL is slowly being phased out for ADSL except in some extreme examples such as farming communities in which the lines are still the "old copper" lines.
  • VDSL - VDSL is ADSL with a boost. What they do to get VDSL is double up a couple of lines in the ISP to push more power down your phone line so you can get really fast broadband. VDSL is fantastic and comparable with most of the world's home internet speeds, but does cost a little more than ADSL2+. VDSL requires your home to have the "new copper" or fiber lines.
  • Fiber - Fiber is the new scream word, and everyone wants it. Basically the fiber cable is a far more efficient cabling type and does provide faster internet. However do not be fooled y the hype: Yes it is faster, that is that it is faster within NZ. ie. Visit TradeMe and ping! the page loaded in the blink of an eye. Now go to Facebook.com (hosted in the USA) now the fiber connection doesn't really appear to be performing any better than VDSL. The reason for this is that the information your are requesting from Facebook has to travel across many servers around the world to finally make it to your home computer. In this scenario surfing the global internet is not much improved by a fiber connection."

and

http://broadband.spoonit.co.nz/pricing.html

"Plan 1: Fast Broadband Pay as you Go

It is a fast Ethernet connection that requires a connection box connected to your home's telephone jack. At best speed it can attain to 140Kbs (kilobytes per second). It is a lot faster than the standard telephone line DSL / ADSL internet connection.

* Please note: Most homes that have had a telephone line can use this plan."

I think that's the worst explanation of internet connections I have ever seen.  And their pricing seems very steep.

Also Grant, its F-I-B-R-E.  You're not in Guatemala now

Oh yeah I'm totally with you there.

Also in the last 24 hours he seems to have removed the link to 'SpoonTube' off his homepage, but the url is still valid.  http://biz.spoonit.co.nz/spoonTUBE/
At the risk of giving him some more website hits, there are some fairly inappropriate categories listed for a business website.
